Hey Jack , I just learned this be-bop scale that when I heard it I thought GARCIA right away !!! Your probably already aware of it I'm sure it's just the major scale with an added note so descending in the C major scale with the added note would be the notes C root , B natural 7 , B flat - flat 7 , A nautul 6th , G 5th , F major 4th , E major 3rd , D major 2nd , and back to C root ( octave ) like I said I'm sure you are aware of this be-bop scale however you are so creative and I love your content, teaching style , and personality do you think you could do a lesson on this also interested in playing in the pocket and chromatic enclosures that Jerry loves like a whole step above , 1/2 step below the root , 3rd , 5th , flat 7 just some ideas for future videos, lol possibly??? Thanks so much for all your knowledge and tons of love ❤ from Philadelphia!!!

Thanks for the comment! I already did a few vids on enclosures and Garcia’s use of them. One on Promised Land and another on Ramble on Rose. As to that bebop scale…that’s correct, basically it allows for the player to play 8th notes with the weak beats getting the weak notes. I’m not really a big jazz guy and there are better sources out there for educating yourself. It’s not really something I use a lot to be honest.

@@jacksnax4guitar460 Thanks so much for the response!!! I'll check out both of those videos think I did see a little bit of promise land video , How does Garcia play that really fast double time stuff ??? God I miss him so much , I digress anyway yes as to that scale I was wondering how to incorporate it into my playing ??? I guess I could have made it alot easier by saying add the flat 7 to the major scale I'm pretty new to theory just got into it a couple years ago , anyway thanks again for everything and tons of love ❤ from Philadelphia!!!

@@jamesjones-rp6cl Playing fast is a tough thing to talk about without hearing a specific example. Usually the speed come from stacking simple and similar moves back to back so as to create the desired effect. I use pull offs and hammer one and anything else I have to get it cooking. I’m not the worlds best alternate picker so figuring of out how I can make the sounds I’m after usually requires some premeditation…not smoke and mirrors so much as grouping simple small bursts of notes I have down cold that I can play successively and successfully. I’m certIn Garcia had his methods worked out but I haven’t really cracked that code yet… in truth I don’t think of him as a speedy player.

@@jacksnax4guitar460 Right on , How about some of the versions of Harder they Come ?? I mean he is just cooking over some of those like it's so fast and crazy melodic at the same time it's like he is truly singing through the guitar and he never runs out of this to say !!! It blows me away my brother!!! Thanks again so much for replying!!!

Grea video Jack. I have an interesting request I wanted to share. Could you make a video on Jerry's playing for "Space"? I'm interested in learning about what scales/patterns he uses, especially the really weird and scary sounding stuff. Is the band even using a key or is it all random? Thank you :)

There’s no method to that madness! Actually I do have some ideas about that stuff but I’m still getting my mind around it and my fingers used to what’s going on.

New guitar?

Hi! Yes I did! I picked up a few new guitars this spring. I grab what seems attractive online in terms of specs, see what speaks to me and sell the ones that miss my sweet spot. That’s what’s up with the Cunetto Mary Kaye. That guitar is incredible, but I prefer the neck on this one…even though it cost a lot less it’s staying. This one is really great. It’s a lightweight (7lbs) ash body 2 color MJT finish in nitro and reliced by me. The neck is a Warmoth. I took a risk and bought it online. It has a Clapton (Hard V) profile. I love my friends old 50’s Fenders with that style of carve so I figured I’d go for it. Awesome!!! I had it refretted with 6100s and my preferred VV pickups except the neck. My black strat, has a thinner C neck and is Alder. It has a Dimarzio Heavy Blues in the neck. This new one is sporting the “Injector” model which is similar but updated a bit. I kind of prefer the Heavy Blues but it was out of stock when I was assembling it. The combo of the great fretwork, lightweight snappy ash and that V neck earned it a place in the quiver. Super stoked. Now I just want a RW in a solid custom color to slake my 60s Strat jones.😊

@@jacksnax4guitar460 Good stuff! I had an American Standard with Rosewood I loved, I had put Lollar Dirty Blondes in it, sounded awesome... swore id keep it forever, then I screwed up and played an Inca Silver Custom Shop Strat one day, and couldnt leave the store without it... so I had to sell the American Standard! No regrets on that..
