Love the channel. love the groove. Sure wish I could have found a "KZfaq" channel like this 30+ years ago when I couldn't be found without a guitar in my hands

As I get better at guitar, I find new teachers that teach at the level I'm at, and pull me up. Jacksnax is the absolute best teacher I've found for the emerging soloer with the basic mechanics of the instrument under their belt. Every video is a revelation. Thanks man.

that flat-3 I always felt like was the secret sauce to Jerry's major sound. Thanks for explaining why it works. That's been the missing piece for me.

Unlocking some beauties there, Jack. I’m still struggling with the scale changes. Knowing how to navigate the changed scale is my weakness.
@jacksnax4guitar460
@jacksnax4guitar460 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what change you’re talking about exactly…can you share more detail? Just think the Maj Pent of whatever Major chord you’re playing over and include the b3 as an approach tone to the 3 or the 2 of the Maj Pent scale and you’ll be there. If this doesn’t make sense…probably need a little tune up on those major pentatonics. Most guitarists I teach think they’ve got them down… and then we get going and find a lot of blind spots. Whatever you do… hang in there, stay positive and keep in touch.

John Mayer is my first guitar hero, having discovered him right around 10 years ago. I played a little then, but I play more now and have listened to a lot more guitar players in the last few years. He sounded a lot like Stevie when he was younger, but he's left a lot of that behind. He sounds so much more Clapton and BB King now, and spends much more time in the major pentatonic. His approach to soloing over China Cat Sunflower reminds me of this "brighter" sound you talk about. You are a truly phenomenal player, and among the most complete guitarists I've ever seen (Josh Smith is another that comes to mind). I admire your playing and knowledge very deeply, and hope to take a lesson with you one day. Thank you, and cheers!

Been playing for 40 years and really enjoy your lessons. This is great strategy to make your solos not sound the same all the way through. Start with some minor blues , go into some mixed major minor using these techniques, finish with more minor blues. Or any mix thereof. And of course practice it vertically and horizontally on the fretboard in all positions so not to get stuck in the standard “blues box”. These techniques can applied to slide playing too. Get more vocal quality and diversity in your solos or fills.

Jack, this is the most articulate explanation of using the major pentatonic scale over the 1 chord and the 4 chord that I have seen. Thank you. I am personally in a rut reverting back to my minor pentatonic "chops". This inspires me to be creative. Billy Strings recently covered "That's What Love Will Make You Do" and appears to play mostly the minor pentatonic scale when improvising whereas your playing is much more on par with Jerry's approach to a I-IV-V Would you consider doing a video lesson of Jerry's "That's What Love Will Make You Do"?

I second that request! I've just stumbled upon your channel and you really seem to understand Jerry's flavor and convey the information in an easily digestible way. I've been obsessing over this song lately and slowly but surely incorporating some of Jerry's thinking and phrasing into my own playing. It's a slow process but so satisfying when a concept finally clicks and feels natural to play. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!

Hi! Yes I did! I picked up a few new guitars this spring. I grab what seems attractive online in terms of specs, see what speaks to me and sell the ones that miss my sweet spot. That’s what’s up with the Cunetto Mary Kaye. That guitar is incredible, but I prefer the neck on this one…even though it cost a lot less it’s staying. This one is really great. It’s a lightweight (7lbs) ash body 2 color MJT finish in nitro and reliced by me. The neck is a Warmoth. I took a risk and bought it online. It has a Clapton (Hard V) profile. I love my friends old 50’s Fenders with that style of carve so I figured I’d go for it. Awesome!!! I had it refretted with 6100s and my preferred VV pickups except the neck. My black strat, has a thinner C neck and is Alder. It has a Dimarzio Heavy Blues in the neck. This new one is sporting the “Injector” model which is similar but updated a bit. I kind of prefer the Heavy Blues but it was out of stock when I was assembling it. The combo of the great fretwork, lightweight snappy ash and that V neck earned it a place in the quiver. Super stoked. Now I just want a RW in a solid custom color to slake my 60s Strat jones.😊
