So after being there in person and going back looking at the footage…Last night was epic. There were a few mistakes on both sides, but both bands were eating. Energy, musicianship, and overall showmanship. Both bands had some highlight moments and I expect nothing less from the top two best bands in HBCU band culture.🔥🔥🔥

Also, I felt SU stayed safe and held back until the end when Jackson was already on the throttle. I’ve give the edge to Jackson but today will be the battle. Blood will be drawn on both sides.

Folks complaining about the boos. It's the biggest and best band rivalry going. It should be expected. If you've never marched into Mumford Stadium as the visiting band then you wouldn't fully understand. Crowd reaction is part of the rivalry.

I really admire the Boom arrangers’ ability to reimagine songs and turn them into interesting arrangements that fit the personality of the band (King’s Affirmation and Can’t Be Friends). It’s even rubbing off on their student arrangers (Super Gremlin from the spring). It’s a unique talent to have.

You don’t want to have this conversation with me. I have a whole DMA. Now, I CAN make a whole argument about how the “musicianship” y’all cry about in Southern’s arrangements are basic chromatic scales grouped together in triplets that literally EVERY musician uses as a basic warm up. I CAN say that one trick pony stunt is neither impressive nor innovative to an actual musician and student of music. But simple minded people like yourself are obviously impressed by it. Typical. Again, you don’t want this argument with me. Stick to being a casual music fan, and leave the theorizing and analysis to those of us with the education and credentials.

Extremely proud of each band member's skill and musicianship; collectively and individually. Special shoutout to the freshmen for all of their hard work in becoming as good as the upperclassmen. Keep that same energy throughout your years in band and in academics. Musically the top 2 bands to ever do it and what an awesome privilege to have the top 2 dance lines to ever do it, front and center. Thank you A1Media for capturing this BOTB.

The background commentary was better than the band battle it’s self lol 😂. From someone who likes both of these school and didn’t march at either or in any band at the collegiate level. I think the battle was pretty even. There were a quite a few head scratching moments from both band song selection wise. I do think the music was getting away from both bands at the top of the battle, but as the battle went on they got more into it and settled down. Good job both bands and I can’t wait to see what y’all in store tomorrow.

The crowd was really doing too much 🙄… that said, BOTH bands were good! No one band “drugged, slammed, killed or murdered” eachother . I personally give JSU the win 🏆 based on energy and arrangements. I also like how professional and kind their Band Director, Dr. Little is. Class Act.

I love both bands but Southern just don't quit ... After that Kings Affirmation by JSU most bands woulda pack it in , but the reply from Southern wasn't as complicated as the Kings Affirmation, but lawd that shit hit hard. I've watched this 3 times and gotta give the edge to Southern. Don't get it twisted JSU came with it..but after listening over and over.. got give the W to S.U. Awesome job by both bands tho. Serious question from 10:17 - 10:38 their is sound that sort of sounds like feedback from an amplifier or a big a$$ tuning fork🤣💀but it also sort of fits the arrangement. If that was instruments replicating that sound was it the tubas? OR did they have an electric guitar and amp set up hidden back there and someone played the sounds? OR was it just some kind of feedback from the cameras mics? OR am I tweeking like Smokey in DBO’s pigeon coop and hearing sh!t 😂😂🤣🤣💀💀💀💀

DJ had the Mic on & the loopback caused the sound you heard, they were trying to get him to turn of off out of frame.

Human Jukebox posted a clip where the bands are equal distance away from the camera. Now we can make a fair comparison. SU definitely won. Before I couldn’t accurately score the other videos because it was up closer on JSU. Both bands had their moments. SU’s arrangements is definitely the difference between the bands. Also you can tell that every musician on SU’s side are on a pretty high level of musicianship from each section. JSU sounds good but some of their arrangements are shaky and kinda causes other sections in the band to suffer. Their lowbrass and some of their midbrass are hummin and their woodwinds sound great. The trumpets are a bit shaky but it’s not their fault. The arrangements sound like they cater more to power mids and lows. But I will say that JSU’s arrangements have improved over the years. The W goes to SU but JSU did a damn great job.
