@@deed3259 because they discussed a collab back and forth and Marlena had all of these extra items made especially for JH, because she ran everything past her and all of that, but JH kept dodging a contract with her brand MUG for the collab (there are emails as proof you can look it up) and then she went and did her own thing with Morphe and totally screwed Marlena out of the collab so all of the money she invested in everything went to waste because it sat and sat because JH kept stalling on it and she had to sell it all in a hurry before it went bad and then she made no money on it she actually took a major loss. She has a video on it I believe.

@@ashleysegura8718 the original creator of the brand Koze is Kalyn Nicholson. You can find her here on YT. She actually shut down her brand b/c it was too expensive for her to try and fight it. It's really sad, but I heard that she's trying to rebrand. I hope it works out for Kalyn, she's so sweet.

I work in PR. So the way you get featured in these types of articles is you get journalist requests through email (for example ResponseSource). It would be something like “we’re looking to feature small business in an article about gifts” and you have to pitch to them why they should feature you. Usually it’s free, but sometimes they ask to receive the products “to test”. I don’t think I’ve seen any requests like this where they offer you to pay, but it might be different in the USA.

I tried to tell this to people for years now, but so far no drama youtuber has picked on it at far as I can tell. I worked in the jewellery industry, and with the launches jacklyn does, as far as I can tell, we had the same pieces, just with our brandtag. The company I worked at was a reseller so the prices per piece were from 2-10 bucks, with eatings being the cheapest usually. I can tell you jacking is making a TON of money. You have to keep in mind that she probably bought them for the same prices we did so we are talking a few cents per piece. She is scamming these people. Those earrings are not worth more than 10 bucks.

Yes! A Totally underrated commentary! I know what you’re talking about, I’ve seen all of “her” items in a big online catalogue you-know-where and you actually can make an order with the tag of your company with the prices depending on the quantity of the stock you’re ordering 😅 And those prices are very close to a cent, if you order a lot. I hope more people will see your commentary (and also mine) because it’s such an obvious thing, but not a lot of people pay attention to it.

I have 2 notes: 1. I distinctly remember Jeffree praising that huge box with whatever on Bora Bora (?) and Mmmitchell being like "actually, nah", so it doesn't feel that out of the blue. Just fishy. And 2, and this is not a joke. It should be mentally exhausting taking so much credit when you know you did nothing, lied about it and still do, and now having everyone find out so she turns the cope up to 11. I've seen so many people crack over impostor syndrome and it makes me feel pretty resentful how she somehow can just do all that seemingly without consequences. She's actually not human anymore, just a product.

I work in affiliate marketing and we pay to get our brands in articles just like this all the time. Not saying she 100% paid but that’s standard practice in affiliate marketing to either raise commissions or pay a flat fee for articles exactly like that.

I followed her for years and really enjoyed watching her videos in the early days. I was starting to get sus when she started pushing Morphe products, I even bought her palette. But she really turned me off after the Makeup Geek and her collab with Becca, but I unfollowed her after the lipstick situation. I didn’t believe she was in it for the love of makeup anymore. When a person shows you who they are, believe them. I will never spend any of my hard earned money on her products. I don’t like her business practices, it comes off so shady.

It’s a open secret that the “best of” online articles with links are basically paid placement and many “best of” in magazines are paid for in the sense that the companies are heavily advertising in the magazine and they need that revenue to stay alive.

Hi! I work in PR, albeit for an entirely different industry, but if the article doesn't state "paid for/sponsored by/in partnership with" a brand, it's not paid. When brands pitch products to outlets, they'll often pitch several at once so it's actually not uncommon to see the same brand's products featured in a single article -- especially if the journalist has a good relationship with the brand.

I used to work for a trade magazine publisher. While I am not saying all publications operate this way, the lists in our magazines were either paid positions, or a way to recognize regular advertisers.

I worked in traditional publishing. Some blog lists are paid spots, some don't take any payments or non-reader suggestions, some only post things they CAN get a link for that pays them, and other only list things they got for free for review. This is true in ALL mediums not just publishing. The only way to know if it was paid is if we worked there. But it was likely paid OR they were offered affiliate links so they gladly took them.

The Oprah’s list part is kind of dumb to get angry about, because it’s literally like the NYT bestsellers list or Goop. Of course she didn’t actually use the product, do people think Gwyneth Paltrow actually uses all of the products on Goop? Or that the random book on the NYT list that you’ve never heard of is actually selling? No, they’re essentially paid endorsements. It’s the same thing as those “top doctors/lawyers” lists that come out in the local news.

If you really think those lists aren't paid for you're extremely naive. Its not just Oprah, its everything you see in a magazine/blog. My moms a dermatologist and pays magazines to have her products featured in those "Lists". The products are legitimate, but the truth (sorry mom) is that there might be better products that do the job
