After visiting Costa Rica and French Polynesia, the time was right to quit our full-time jobs, so we left everything to travel and have loved every minute of it. Our goal is to make it to all seven continents and visit as many countries as possible. Follow along and be a part of the journey!

The small seafood you found in the fried kuey tiaw is called cockles, probably same family as oysters , but smaller.

Looked for this comment. Found it. Great! Mainly it's using spoons to scoop up rice instead of a fork. Also, it's more common to eat a mouthful with both rice and meat/vege in one go. Not separated.

the 'water soup' (5:25) was supposed to be mixed with the rice to soften it for each spoon-feed that 'oyster' in 5:55 was cockle... every malay word that starts with the letter 'C' will sound like 'Ch' as in 'chair'.. so, roti chanai, not roti kanai (14:18) 15:28 yes, they are lentils (we call them 'dhal' beans). and the bread is sour because it is made from fermented rice flour

If you mix the soup with the rice, the whole aroma and taste of the specially cooked Hainanese rice will vanish.

What you're eating is fried kuey teow , wok fried flat noodle with prawn and some even had chinese sausage. Egg is added in it you dont need to have additional fried egg on it. But if you want it its additional cost. If you want it a little spicy it taste better. Next is roast pork and roasted chicken rice. This two are malaysia's top of the list and all time favorite food in malaysia among local malaysian chinese community .

The chicken rice with the roast pork (with crispy skin) is definitely better that those in Singapore. Oh, please, don't compare food in Singapore to ours in Malaysia. We take as an insult. Hahaha..... Oh, the soup with the chicken rice is to provide some moist to the rice. Some people can find the rice too dry. So, they drink a little of the soup after taking some rice just feel better. So, that soup is really optional and it is intentional made less flavorful so that it would not distract you from the taste of the rice and the meats that go with it.

You guys did awesome hitting up all of the best malay dishes 👌Love char kuay teow so good with the bean sprouts but also noticed how in Malaysia they always add clams, which i am happily order without now so my kids will eat 😅😂 I Definitely try to ask for no anchovies on our malay food too if I realize they are adding. The beef rendang + curry laksa you tried other video are my fav dishes + Roti canai you had today, soo yummy with an iced coffee for breakfast 👌

thats not oyster but cockles a common ingredient in Char kuey teow. The lentil curry is called Dal . Dosa/Tosai is made by slightly fermenting rice and gram/lentil beans hence the slight sourness.

The soup for the chicken rice, we locals would just pour it over the rice so it brings out the flavour of the rice and makes the eating less dry.
@veronicacasey454
@veronicacasey454 6 күн бұрын
The soup (clear soup) accompanied in Hainanese Chicken Rice is from the flavour of poached chicken & bones; simmered with ginger, garlic, shallots & other vegs, like cabbage, etc. In general, there are 3 types of sauces accompanied for the chicken rice - sesame soy sauce, sourish chilli garlic sauce & ginger sauce. The rice is then flavourful enough & not dry. The mixing of soup into the rice is just a personal choice.

1. Most of the time, the soup is simply to wash down the chicken rice. 2. Is some occasions, juz rarely, the soup is so good it can be an order on its own !
