Went to a fish swap and got 11 BN plecos: 3 albino, 3 super red, 5 brown. They're all 1-1.5" long and live in a 160 gallon community tank. Fed algae wafers, flakes, shrimp pellets, Repashy community plus, and of course algae. How long might it take them to reach minimum breeding size? Maybe up to a year?

I tried to separate mine. I have two males and two females. One of my L144s has a spot on his tail that looks like the normal plecos, dark with light spots. So he is in a tank with a female angel that kills any swimming fish she can catch. I put the other male in my hospital tank, but 15 minutes ago I noticed what looked like a corn nibblet hopping around on the bottom. Guess I'm going to have to learn how to ship fish because I live WAY out in the country.

I've been trying to breed bristle nose for a year now, but I have not had a single spawn. Feed them fresh veggies, algea wafers, have multiple spawning caves, 4 females, and 1 male, all around 4 to 5 inches. I have tried cold water changes lowering. ph, nothing works. I have even swaped out the male for another still nothing.

Hi Jason. Yesterday, I was shocked to find and albino male pleco in his cave with dozens and dozens of babies. Yikes! He had been in a tank with a common pleco that was given to us. I was moving him to another tank when they all spilled out of the cave. O.O I didn't even think they were big enough to breed. All the babies are dark like the mother and are swimming. What do you think they will look like when grown? Will they get as big as a common pleco? How hard will it be to find them homes? Thanks, Sue
@JadrenAquatics
@JadrenAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
Wow! I've read about this before and many said it's not possible but apparently they were wrong. It will be interesting if you can actually grow them up. The may have weak genetics and just die. Man that would make an awesome video though people would love to hear about and then see it. Good luck!
@StrangeArrangements
@StrangeArrangements 3 жыл бұрын
@@JadrenAquatics We never thought that would happen with the two different plecos. The babies don't seem weak at all. The are suckering all around the tank. Some have been eating the snello and grazing on algae wafers. They are cute as all get out. The albino daddy had been in his water stake terra cotta cave for awhile. He wouldn't even come out during water changes. He wedged himself inside and wouldn't be shaken out. He's a very good daddy pleco. I will see about making a video and get posted. I will let you know. Thanks for getting back with me so quickly. ~ Sue

Actually algae is GREAT for fish. You need to study up on that, watch some videos about outdoor fish breeding and breeding in ponds and see how much better coloration is and how much healthier they get. I NEVER clean algae.

One thing I've noticed regarding sexing is the nostrils, the males have a protruding thingmebob beside each nostril, the females don't. When it comes to my technique for breeding them, I have a three step plan that has not yet failed me. 1st step is to get either a male or a female, 2nd step you need the opposite gender, it's very important that you get a male and a female, non binary plecos might not be a biologically viable pair. For the 3rd and final step, put them in the tank, now for this part, it does need to be the same tank if they are to breed successfully write that down if it'll help you to remember it. I all seriousness, If you have hardscape in their tank they might even make their own cave, or find one that you've built, but a breeding cave of some description is a necessity, and a clay one from your local fish shop will make your life easier, provided that they choose to use that and not the hole they've dug out in your manicured aquascape just under the seiryu stone by the front glass... And now you know how I accidentally started breeding bristlenose.

You lost me at L144 lemon blue. It’s embarrassing to be someone that supposedly breeds bristlenose as a profession and market their bristlenose improperly. The L144 is not a real thing anymore. It was a one off fish. The original L144 was one male imported from Paraguay to Germany. They died off and no longer are in the hobby. Those fish are not L144 they are just Ancistrus sp. plain lemon blue eye. Using L144 is just a way to mark up product. There’s literally only 1 picture in the whole world of the only L144. All credibility out the window
