@@Crimson509 I’ve been telling him “I don’t listen to whine, so go back and try again”. That’s actually been working lol. He still does it but way less. It’s been like almost 2 months that I’ve done that.

When they are acting like this I copy them lol and they see how they sound and laugh and change their tone but some days it is hard to deal with the little bad attitudes.

I have my children do a chore. I find it gives their body movement to help regulate themselves, it's doing service for the family to get them thinking of others, gives them some space, and is also enough of a consequence that it is effective. For example, the car can always be vacuumed or scrubbed haha, baseboards wiped (within reason with their age for the amount asked to be done), weeds pulled, floors scrubbed, etc. The chores are somewhat "made up " but things I know they can accomplish and will help them move and reflect. Or I often have them come up with ways to "make it up" to the person they wronged so they learn to repair the relationship themselves. Everyone has different love language and has different desires for what type of apology etc. If I remove items as a consequence it's usually because the item caused conflict and I tell them something like it seems this item is making you unhappy and causing a problem, let's try to use this item again when Mom thinks you are ready to use it appropriately.

@praireoak, thank you for sharing. I, too, have thought of assigning additional 'chores' as the consequence for a child, however I have not found any right words to say implementing it that wouldn't cause resentment or undesired anger. My children each have a good amount of jobs as it is that we switch up about every 2 months to give everyone an opportunity to learn them well before switching. I can't imagine what I would say to give an additional job to teach them something in the moment. But I have thought on it. Getting the words just right is what I need help on to really bring the lesson home for them if I'm to implement something like that. I liked the words you used when taking an item away that was causing problems, and said you would allow them to use it once you saw they were ready to use it appropriately. Great choice of words to get them to stop, think, and prayerfully decide to change their behavior for the good. Any words or phrases you could recommend when assigning an additional task or 'chore'? I want to teach my children to come to enjoy their everyday jobs and responsibilities so hopefully nothing that would bring a negative view to what I'm trying to teach them is a joy. Thank you!

I let them tell me what the issue is and if I deem it too little to deal with, I tell them to figure it out. In the case things escalate I will step in.

I would kindly tell the other child that yelling etc is not ok in your house and help them try to ask in another way? Or tell them, "it seems like you are stuck and not sure what to do," I can help you guys solve this problem etc

It’s simple he just needs to be more serious and give a consequence for her bad actions. Time her out for a little bit or take a favourite toy away what ever you thing works.

I have a friend who had a similar problem. We often discussed it haha. She had her husband do extra activities and daddy daughter dates etc with his daughter, this gave them more time to connect and have more fun shared experiences (this did not include buying her toys or candy etc). Sometimes this can be hard with busy working fathers. He also played more board games with her and would explain expectations ahead of time etc. If they had issues then he issued the time outs or whatever manner of consequence but in a calm manner of course. He then would discuss with her that yelling at him was not allowed in their family and they want everyone to respect each other. Idk if that is helpful. But they seem to be doing better since spending more quality time and giving him opportunity to "discipline" for lack of a better word.

@@praireoak I'm loving your comments on here very helpful. Lots of times dad need more connection time with the kids and the listening will follow because kids actually love to please however there has to be a relationship and bond first I saw this in my own kids and my hubby now takes speacial time for each kid daily 10 min or more depending and it's been a game changer.

Take them and put them away where they can't just go and grab it. If they do however find it n use it, I would remind them that their behavior is not ok and I would either prolong the take away (so if I said I'm taking it for two days, now it will be a week) or apply another consequence and take away a privilege. I know things can seem trying in the moment but try to remember the lesson u want ur child to learn. U got this mama and ur doing great!🤗

I would extend the consequence. So now no crayons for two months.

If fights occur over a toy I take the toy away for a day. This is only after I have encourage sharing and if they insist on being difficult with each other. Also we set boundaries. Most of our toys are family toys but each mine three children do have toys and items which belong to them solely. We encourage them to share but insist they are to respect if their sibling does not want to share. Things get better as they get older if you continue to reinforce the standards you have for your home. P.S. Someone suggested in a scenario where one child allows the other to have the toy but then quickly change their mind leading to a blow up between the two. Hold the child to their word by agreeing on allotted time for the other child to play with the toy. I typically allow for an hour. However if they uses the toy incorrectly which can lead to possible damage, its promptly given back to the other child.
