Jaguar E-Type - Rescuing a 1965 OTS Roadster Project

Today’s video takes a look at another E-Type rescue mission that I went on this Summer to save this 1965 OTS Roadster. This car had been sitting on an open car-hauler trailer, outdoors, for a LONG time…. This took place a few months ago, and during that time we have now found the car a new home and I also took a couple minutes of footage of the car being dropped off at her new home.
Due to the overall situation/status of the car and how and where it was stored - AND the weather that day (we started at 9 AM but it was a 100-degree, 100% humidity day in July…), this is the hardest I have had to physically work to get one from where it is, into the trailer. And make no mistake - there have been some really tough ones in the past before this one! But that heat and humidity was really oppressive, and it took me a couple of days to recover from this one. If you want to get the real feel for this one, watch it in a sauna... :-)
But all is well that ends well - we rescued the car and let’s face it - I LOVE this stuff! I’m also happy to report that she is now in the hands of a good, new owner who has had several E-Types in the past, but never the Series 1 roadster that they always wanted. The restoration is already well underway, and we will be supplying all of the panels necessary to get the job done - as well as “free tech support for life” - which you always get when you buy an E-Type project from Monocoque Metalworks!
This video makes the job look easy - it was not! But amidst all of the sweating and chaos, I did make sure to stop every once and a while and get some film so you guys could come along for the ride. Enjoy! :-)
P.S. I just picked up ANOTHER one last week - a 1966 FHC (coupe) - AND - two more are on the way later this Fall! - a 1963 FHC (coupe), and a 1965 OTS (roadster). All three are complete, numbers-matching, Series 1 E-Types that are looking for good, new homes! Call if you are interested!

Chuck, very good to see that I am not the only person trying to rescue these old beauties. Great video of a true adventure. Not glamorous but real life. Loved to watch it. Please do more of these 🙂

Oh, the memories you bring back...draging home my E-Type, Mk2 and Xk140! I was getting hot just watching...sweat and all!

Keep at it Chuck. We met at various racetracks, I'm and old friend of BT. It's gets harder as you age, BT pushing 80 and I'm pushing 70.

The things we'll do for exercise... Looks like a fair amount of work to do there Chuck, but it does look reasonably complete, and that's not a bad starting point.

It is hard to believe that whoever owned that car would let it get to that dilapidated state, but I myself knows such a person, and they are just bizarre.

Bondo in the nose? Find one that doesn’t have some. I found my 63 behind a hanger at the airport, had sat out with the top down for a couple of years, and this was in 1975! $900 purchase price. Very little rust.

You should line the inside of the trailer with photos of the various E-Type recoveries to 'honour' the trailers adventures you've both been on.

That was hard work, but rewarding. You could use some wheel dollies in that trailer for the next car you pick up with locked wheels.

Thanks, Ole - but that actually doesn’t work that well. The little wheels won’t get you up onto the ramp, and then they get jammed in the crack between the ramp and the trailer floor. Believe it or not, dragging them in with the winch is just easiest. 😉

Chuck . Great to see you ! Haven't seen you for a while and for a while l thought this might be your final appearance ! 😅😅🤣 lt's a bummer when the mind is more than willing but the body refuses to cooperate ! I hope you made an earner out of this . The "e" still looked beautiful in spite of it's pretty poor condition and let's face it it's far too good to break . So is Stewart someone you know ? That car is in rough shape, it doesn't look like there is much that can be saved although maybe I should look for a more recent video before saying that, lol. These cars were iconic from Day 1 in 1961, it is hard to believe that so many have seen similar fates as this one, sad.

I had a '65 ots. My now ex-wife over spent to the tune of $40k and I had to sell it in a down market (2009). Only got $27k for it. Completly rebuilt Gran Turnismo Stage 2 engine with only dyno miles on it. Built and gusseted/seam welded body. Same color as this car. This makes me anxious to buy another. Mine had the comp wires - 4 of them put on from the factory. I was 2nd owner.
