What? the Jag had and has great popularity as the go-to guitar with the 60s and later surf music scene, more so than the Jazzmaster. I have a Fender Strat and Jaguar, I always go right back to my Jag. just my personal taste and feel. After playing the Jag and then back to the Strat, the bridge on the Strat really bugs me, and can't stand the feel of it when playing. Jag bridge doesn't have that problem, Both are great guitars, Fender all the way.

The reality is, if Hendrix, Gilmour, SRV, Clapton, etc played Jaguars, everyone would be saying 'Strat sounds too thin and less punchy than the Jag'. Jag absolutely blows the strat out of the water and also gives you much more options.

It is not about what blows what out of the water. And it is not like let's say SRV didn't have a choice between his and other models - there is a reason why he went with his instrument and not with a jag.

@@friskoflash5701 Of course, I agree, but my point was, had these legends instead played with a Jag, a lot of these elitist pretentious guitar players would overly praise the jag and knock the strat down. End of the day, it genuinely doesn't matter what you play, because when it gets recorded, the mixing engineer will cut a lot of frequencies to fit in the song xD

Agreed. I love a lot of Strat players, but I don't like Strats. 1) asinine volume knob placement 2) no neck/bridge switching option (of course there are ways to mod this but, just for me, the middle pickup by itself is completely useless) 3) I don't like how they look.

Strats are nice guitars, but I really don't understand how Jags, Jazzmasters, and Mustangs have been ignored for so long. I know in the 90's they had a little revival, but they still didn't get to the Strat/Les Paul level of fame. Objectively, Jags have more tonal variety than a Strat based on their circuitry alone, plus you can do more experimental stuff like playing behind the bridge, etc; and also, subjectively, I'd argue the Jag has better tone, playability, and a more elegant look than the Strat in general. I'm just surprised(yet kind of glad) they never became as iconic as other guitars.

aside from image, reliability is a huge one. it takes "objectively" more work and experience with difficult-to-source parts to get a strat and a jag playing on an equivalent level. strats and teles are also like the p-bass in that they just "sit" well in a mix, and studio engineers know what to do with them
@salopro86
@salopro86 3 жыл бұрын
@@hiroprotagonitis idk man, in terms of immediate playability; when you buy a strat or a jag, you're buying a strat o a jag. You don't need to source parts to start playing. If you're talking about guitars from a studio tech's perspective...well, that's a different story. Heh
@hiroprotagonitis
@hiroprotagonitis 3 жыл бұрын
@@salopro86 i mean, with the rates for techs these days is it a surprise most players have to think like/be their own techs these days? hahahah but i do mean immediate playability, as someone who's owned both - if you play cowboy chords 90% of the time you'll mostly be fine, but a millimetre in tweaking goes a longer way for an offset: loc-tite, shims, bridge rattling, angles, etc. VS say a tele where theres almost nothing to get wrong. adding the impact of the 80s on guitar culture, while its not impossible, it just literally takes more work to maintain those moving parts in a way that matches modern expectations of playability. tl;dr theres no getting around being a nerd to love an offset, and thats prob why so many of us do ;)

Things got a lot closer with the lead--I think I slightly preferred the Strat, but maybe mostly because I'm so used to the Strat lead sound. Overall, I preferred the Jaguar and now will be on the lookout for one. Nice playing, too, Joey.

I agree that the strat is less centered. I'm shocked that you didn't demonstrate the beauty of the Jaguar Rhythm Circuit & the iconic 2nd & 4th Strat positions. That's what makes these guitars unique. My rhythm Circuit is always set at different volume and tone so I can instantly go from soloing to playing chords. The rhythm Circuit wide open clean or distorted is a beautiful tone for solos to play at a higher volume without getting shrill.

Well Strat doesn't have a rhythm circuit.. the jag no posit 2 and 4 so using them would ruin the same/same comparison between the two. Now that being said.. YEAH!! And I'm a Strat guy by nature. At the end of the day, tone is in the fingers. I recommend these over the Fender Mexico versions which are double the price but not twice as good. Not just for beginners. With a good setup done by a luthier they're giggable. Cheers!

@@zulhafizzariq3391 Don't chase pedals. Best bet is not to try and sound like someone else. Focus on getting the best tones out of the gear you've got. Strats can do indie just fine. Strats are in Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chilli Peppers just off the top of my head. And how diverse are the sounds just out of those three bands?? And they're from the same genre using the same instrument. Buy a tube amp. That's my only advice. Pedals are like seasoning,use them like a pinch of salt on a well cooked meal that would still be nice even without the salt. I chased the pedal rabbit hole. Now my pedal board is way too big. It gets in the way...each pedal sucks tone (something I learned the hard way. Cos they don't tell ya that, do they!?)...and there is myriad points of failure. Not to mention the big money pit it was. It's easier to jjustify pedals at a couple hundred each ...but I think of that new guitar I want...I coulda had that and another amp instead! And good ones too. Be smarter than I was. But the personality of the Jaguar makes your sound more unique and interesting if you play certain styles of music. Red suit on strat, blue on Jaguar. I choose red much more deeper and tasty sound, blue one must on hard rock.

It sounds like you said that the Strat has a "NATO" body. The subtitles also say that. Older Strats were always alder or swamp ash, as far as I know.

I don't like Fender guitars in general, and I especially don't like strat models, even though I have a strat. Five positions and three pickups, but in all positions the guitar sounds almost the same with small nuances in the middle area and mostly all strat players use only one combination, middle or bridge. few people use neck or positions 2 and 4. I use in 90% middle. Would love to have a jaguar but I don't trust Fender after the disappointment with the Fender Strat. I also have an Aria strat HSH with ceramic pickups, which sounds much more specific and has more useful combinations than the Fender Stratocaster alnico 5

The metal car increases the inductance substantially. Instead of 2.2 it's 3.5. This is why the guitar sounds different than a strat.

The strat is a merely a step between the tele and Jazzmaster. Just my opinion.

Totally agree. I have a Tele and after cutting an album on a Jaguar, I’ve realized it’s the kind of guitar I was meant to play. I still love my Tele, but the Jaguar is truly something special.

@@MickeyDs14 hey man, just curious, how does the sound of a Tele compare to the Jag? Does it have a good punch to it? I just ask because I'm looking to get a new guitar and I'm torn between a Danelectro NOS '59 or a Fender Telecaster. I want something bright but not too twangy and I worry about that with the Tele

@@salopro86 They have bites in different ways. Jag gets that compressed jangle sound naturally, but sometimes the lead position can leave a lot to be desired unless you’re playing with overdrive or distortion. It also has single coils, so it picks up dirt really well. My Tele is versatile because it can handle rhythmic strums a little better, as well as jazz. But my Tele has humbuckers, so overdrives and distortions are harder to dial in since the tone is naturally warmer. It’s also not as punchy without a compression pedal on my board. Both worth the money, but it really just depends on your genre and pickups. If you get a Tele with humbuckers, I think you’ll be golden!

@@MickeyDs14 right on man, thanks for the info. You make a good point about the bridge pickup leaving something to be desired on the Jag. I use a vox ac15, so it's pretty easy to dial up the channel and get natural tube overdrive, also use an mxr distortion+ and big muff for the heavier stuff, but on it's own, the bridge pickup sounds a bit thin. I've actually been thinking about trying to mod my jag with a p90 or jazzmaster pickup in the bridge position(I'll call it a Jagmaster, heh) to get a fatter lead tone. But as much as a Tele with humbuckers sounds pretty cool, I'm thinking of something brighter and single coil-y but with some growl, that's why I'm really interested in those Danelectro NOS 59's. Got the humbucker sound covered with Gibson LP studio

That Classic Vibe Jaguar doesn't sound like Jaguar. I don't like anything that's made of poplar from new classic vibe series. I played several Jaguars from CV series and Vintage Modified is much closer to vintage Jaguar sound.
