would have done no harm when one battery conection is removed no current can flow from battery . you could have left positive conected in place and saved time by just useing any thing metal to make them join together with same result.

Are you planning to kill the car by connecting the negative directly to the live?

@@johnnysevengun that's exactly what you do disconnect the ground fr9m the battery and use a jumper to the Hot. With no ground hooked to the battery it will properly discharge the voltage left in the capacitoes

It might make a difference but I would guess the battery needs replacing. It only needs to get a bit low and it will cause the issues you have.

It might be my imagination but I think its smoother on the mid range power delivery.

There would be no harm in trying. Check to see if water got into the ECU and all the connections are good - especially the battery.

Have you paired both fobs to the car? They may be worn out. I replaced both the circuit boards in mine with updated ones I bought off ebay. If both fobs work then there will be a problem in the electrical connections in the car locks - nearly always in the drivers door - as it is the one that gets the most use. I expect the S Type is the same as the X Type. All you need to do is pair the key. Rusty Skull does a good video on how to do it. The XJ is a completely different car but there would be no harm in trying this. However it is more likely the sender for the speedometer has not been correctly connected. You should look on the Jaguar XJ forums for more information about the transducer and where it is positioned. Good luck.

I am based in Essex and I am not a qualified mechanic. Any good local garage can work on your Jag as it has a Ford engine. Limp mode can be quite problematic but most often it comes on because the battery needs replacing. Use an OBD reader (ebay£15) or the built in codes in the dash to find out what else could be causing the limp mode. It does sound like your battery is at the end of its life. If it is more than 5 years old get another one. For the ABS did you check the condition of the reluctor rings on the back axle? These rust away and can fall off leaving you with a permanent red light.

Concept Symetry Guitars I looked through the hole on the rear axle when the sensor was out and the rings looked in very good order, I.e. light grey in colour, no rust or dirt, no other muck surrounding the ring. I didn’t turn the wheel as it is auto and awd and was on my own so difficult to inspect beyond that. Was pretty sure it was sensor as I initially only had a code for the left rear and six months later it showed the right front. I have used a 7 stage auto switch mode battery charger to charge my battery overnight and now have 13.04V as apposed to about 12.2 when it was on the veh and probably had some residual charge at that. So I hope it solves the problem. The battery is 5 and a good Varta but might be the cause. I’m in NZ and the car was a Jap import and only has 90k km on it. It’s in nice nick so hoping I have fixed it. Will let you know

Concept Symetry Guitars thanks, thought I had it sorted. No abs light when I put battery back in this morning. Test drive good and even felt like it drove better, probably due to ecu reset. Got home and whilst sitting in driveway at idle abs light again. Now the Foxwell Nt510 diagnostic tool is playing up. Only used it a couple of times but as it’s 2 years after I bought it the warranty has expired. So I could replace the battery but it’s holding 12.6v in the car and cranks well. It’s $350 I would rather put towards going to a jag dealer but that’s a couple of hundred miles away and they would charge like a bull. Rego expires in a month and you need a fitness cert to get new rego. Bugger it all

Only European models need the code - US ones don't. If it does not crank at all it probably needs a new battery.

I don't know what a central junction box is. It will have no effect on the central locking.

You may find there are air leaks in the manifold where the plastic components are. Also check that the engine vent pipe on the top is the ribbed one and not split. Air leaks show up as oxygen sensor codes.

Also is it possible you might have not let the engine idle for long enough after you reset it and before you first set off?

It's a code to tell you the other codes have been cleared. Don't worry about it. Jaguar P1000 Fault code. P1000 is a very common Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) and can be indicated after maintenance has been carried out. This is not necessarily an indication of a problem, The service engineer may have cleared fault codes, after repair or rectification of a problem

P1000 code indicates it hasnt finished testing powertrain cycle and is entirely normal nothing at all to worry about bud.

Resetting the ECU is to help sort out any glitches in the fuel injection system. It is only a side effect that the radio has to be reset on UK models. If the LCD screen is not working it is more likely to be a blown fuse or rotted out electrical connector.

I actually missed the important part prior to ask you, all this happened as I inadvertedly pressed the software update button and the screen freezed with surrounding buttons being unresponsive. As nothing else seemed to happen we then shutted the car off and when turning back on the screen as never turned back on, is always black.

This is a problem with the switch in the door not working properly. I have done a video on this but the short answer is to fill the lock with switch cleaner (not WD40) and repeatedly open and shut until it works again. If it does not cure then the switch is dead. I shorted the switch by putting a speed clip across the two wires in the door pocket. This means the interior light will never come on. Ours had that problem, centre dome light would not turn off no matter how many times you pressed the button. We just smacked the shit out of it until it went out 👍👍😂 Job done.

P1647 is for the O2 sensor, P1580 is for the Throttle Posiition Switch on the throttle body. P1000 only means the codes have been read. If you have changed these parts then it is likely you have an air leak. It could be in the top hose connected to the PCV valve or any of the gaskets in the air intake manifold. When it happened to me it was the gaskets for the air vane position motors on the top of the manifold. Concept Symetry Guitars i actually sprayed a bit of wd40 on the key and tried turning it over a few times. On the 6th rapid try it fired right up. Its started every time since then. Im going to fire some compressed air in there to ckean her up a bit more. I was also very low on gas this morning. I was working across from a station today, so i figured id get gas while on break. Thinking that the problem was an empty tank i put a bit in with a gas can. Maybe the security fail was happening because the fuel pump wasnt primed? Aftet rapidly trying to turn over the key, maybe the pumped primed? Idk....i can build a house, but cars are a weak area for me. Lol

If the radio code is not written somewhere in the books that came with the car I have read you can ring up a dealer with the VIN number and they can find it for you. I don't know how to upgrade the ECU but all the kits seem to be for diesels and I have petrol.

I don't have an automatic but there are likely two reasons the reverse won't select. 1. the linkage is broken on the gear lever. 2. the reversing pin in the transmission has dropped out of place. Search 'Jaguar X-Type no reverse' on Google and there are plenty of forums that show how to fix it. Good luck.

These cars are junk! I've have put 5k into my 04 in 5years. No reverse. Rear just broke off while parking,drive shaft,wheel bearings. Cracked rims. Every few days it's something new

Check every rubber hose and joint in the air induction side - an air leak will give the same code as an O2 fail. Look hard at the rubber hose on the top from the PCV valve. If it is not the ribbed upgrade - replace it

As far as I can see you can ring up a Jaguar dealer with the VIN number and they will give you the code.

A hard reset rids the system of old codes and can overcome minor problems with all the electrical systems. In this case I did it to help reset the A?C after changing the battery. It can also help to retune the engine and make it run better.

Assuming you have done the hard reset in the video already - do all the other selector buttons work? If they do then the am/fm switch is either dirty or broken or there is poor connection in the loom.

If that trick doesn't work... like it didn't work for my model: Go to a Jaguar dealer. They should give you the code for free. Usually it should be somewhere in the manuals of your car. If you lost it or didn't get, they just have to make a call and write it down for you. They didn't charge me anything for that! And they are quick with charging for things... ;)

You need to get an onboard diagnostic done to find out why the light is on.
