LOVE Jaguar, but I’m not blind to their issues. I used to be skeptical, but we owned a 2016 XE 25t for 4.5 years and had absolutely no issues. Traded up to a 2020 F-Pace 20d Chequered Flag in early 2021 and have been completely satisfied since. They might be unicorns our cars, but we’re ecstatic and completely smitten with our Jaaaaag’s. Another excellent video as always!

I also love Jag. But was massively letdown by the insurance on the iPace, had to swap it for a discovery sport, automatic... Very hard to get used to, seeing that I still can borrow the Mrs' 2 litre diesel manual available to my disposal if need be. The car has never given us any issues, 5yrs later. Love it, and we got it 2nd hand.

It was indeed funny, though I feel like both presenters were being a bit negative about this "superbly" made car? 🤔 E.g., squeaks and rattles, so what? Yes this car had a poor panel gap at the front, but has it been in a crash? Whereas some of their Toyota Century or Lexus reviews are a bit the other way (e.g., saying Toyota Centurys don't break, whereas a few owners in the comments pointed out a few common faults), almost like there is a bit of bias there. An overly negative tone is going to put people off who are looking for genuine consumer advice IMO.

I bought my XE 35T used the other year with 50k on it. Its almost at 100k and i've had 0 issues. Just like in the video it has its little quirks, the ergonomics you get used to its not to bad, the seat does have a little squeak sometimes but with music on you don't notice it. The car drives great, handles fantastic and is honestly a joy to drive. So far any parts i've replaced mostly just cosmetic stuff but looked at pricing for random things have been cheaper then parts were for my VW GLI. Maintenance wise going to the dealership is always more expensive especially when you're like me and you do your oil changes every 8-10k instead of the 20k they say. So instead i get mine done at the local euro shop. Overall i love the car and honestly my next car will be another jaguar at this point in time that's how happy I am with it. At this point in time all cars are equally unreliable and have their own issues buy what makes you happy/what you like the most.

After having a few Lexus ISs, BMW3s and X4s, the Jaguar XE was my favourite. All were used vehicles with over 100000 kms in Australia. As I swap vehicles frequently, I never had any major issues with any of these cars. But my 2015 XE 20T Prestige with 140000 kms was a sheer pleasure to own and drive. Not a squeak, rattle, or failure in the 18 months I owned it. I would buy another one in a heartbeat, but only petrol (20T or 25T) and before 2017 when they got rid of the Ford Ecoboost engine. I'm sure, as with most brands, there are common issues, but I certainly didn't see any of them. Better then a 3 series in terms of handling, way more attractive and somehow you feel 'special' when driving it. Great and fair review, but I would not hesitate to purchase another, prior to 2017 though. Love your reviews - keep it up!

I am not upper middle class wealthy so I stay away from cars like these as I cannot afford to fix them if they go tits up. I just stick with the Fords, Vauxhalls, Hyundais, Kia and the like. I would love an AMG C63 Merc or BMW M3 but until I start getting rock star wages I'll have to make do with my Vauxhall Astra estate 😆.

When the warranty expired I finally decided to enhance the performance, not that it needed it to be honest! Currently running around 460bhp with around 560nm torque the performance is frankly breathtaking.

Either way it doesn't effect the quality of the work you guys manage to do on a consistent basis. Had to laugh at the safety features overview as it was funny but he was right as well regarding most of the "safety" tech. I think this is the first vehicle you've actually been able to show what you meant by the panel gap misalignment. Over all gents another well made and enjoyable video. I had a 2017 XES ( supercharged V6) from new for 6 years. Nothing went wrong until the navigation played up- the dealer had it for 5 weeks trying to fix it! They finally got some updates from JLR in the UK. Time to change, so I bought a C43. What hasn’t been mentioned is the possibility with the V6 of catastrophic coolant leaks. There are pipes that run under the supercharger that are made of plastic that will eventually succumb to heat and just blow out along a seam in them. By the time you can pull over the engine has overheated and warped the heads, needing a new engine.

I kinda hate that we only have a single reliable compact luxury sedan to fall back on (and that’s now discontinued). Lexus infotainment sucks and the amount of power they extract from what seems like a big meaty engine is a joke. If we are comparing used 2014 models (which I did personally), despite the Lexus IS costing twice as much as my Mazda3 brand new, it lacks key tech that I enjoy using on every drive like CarPlay on the stock touchscreen, a heads up display and a rotary BMW style controller rather than the awful mouse-joystick-touchpad contraption Lexus uses. At this point I have my reliable compact luxury car hopes pinned on either a Genesis G70 or another top trim Mazda if they continue to push upmarket in interior quality in the next generation.

@@lukeclifton4392 Nah I stand by that Toyotas are far worse even to this day. At least the 2019+ Mazdas (3, CX-30, CX-60, etc) have the new infotainment system and it’s actually one of the better ones I’ve seen. Same with the proper HUD. But the old MZD Connect, while subpar by 2023 standards, was probably ahead of the pack in 2014. It’s one of the only cars of that age that I could get CarPlay added to the stock system without ripping it out and going aftermarket, which I’d really not like to do. Again the HUD is dinky, and on the pre 2016 BN facelift looks like a microwave display lol but compared to a 2014 Golf, Corolla, Civic, Focus, i30, Cerato, etc somethings better than nothing.

Externally looks a lot like a Ford Falcon FGX and for the money I would take an fgx xr8 or xr6 turbo any day over this. Add some shockworks coilovers and you would have a much better reliable package that can handle the wear and much more suited for aust conditions. When you see this, you realise just how underrated Aussie made cars were. You have reviewed many fords ,however an fgx xr8 review would be appreciated.

I don't agree. The Jaguar XF is the one that's about the same size and shape as a Falcon. The XE is quite a bit smaller. So it should be the Jaguar XF that gets compared. With all due respect to the Falcon, the XF feels a lot more upscale -- it kind of feels like a really posh Falcon, the driving position and A-pillar angles and so are pretty similar but the XF's trim, leather etc is quite a bit nicer than even a G6E Falcon. Given the way Falcon and G6E prices are inflating, it actually could even be cheaper to buy a 2010 Jaguar XF than a 2010 Falcon G6E!🙂 Some people are looking for a luxury car to be simply a luxury car and not a performance car too. Hence the sales of E Classes and XFs with the smaller four-cylinder engines and diesel engines. So on that front, the XF arguably fits the bill better than the Falcon too. I don't like diesels myself, but if someone does and does big mileage then the 2.7L diesel from the Territory is available in the XF where it is not available in the G6E either.
@bloodmoon1410
@bloodmoon1410 Жыл бұрын
@@TassieLorenzo The problem in the equation, as with most European cars is when something goes wrong with them, bloody costly. Also inherently the more complex the car the more potential points for failure and that flashy trim starts looking when tired km get up there. Yep go gracious cruising around the nice metro roads areas probably will last ok and a good choice. Take it on country highways and a few potholes here and there and I think that you will find that there is a big reason these things depreciate so much, not designed for Aust conditions and very costly to fix. Again credit to our defunct car industry especially if you compare price when new!! Ultimately up to the buyer and their wants. For me a hand built super charged v8 in the falcon would be way ahead of a 2L or diesel powered EF, even with the supercharged 3.0L being still well behind the S.C Miami V8 with the possibility of lasting hundreds of thousands of km.

I've owned many nice sports cars over the years - but never a Jaguar. I always wanted one as my dad owned a beautiful xj12 that had the twin gas tanks, and classic interior. I sold the bmw 535, and got a 2018 xe r sport 35t with 45000 miles on it. It was already a supercharged dream to drive. But then I went down the rabbit hole. Supercharger air intake pipes and filters, lower and upper pulleys and supercharger belt upgrades from Mina Gallery, a full tune from Velocity Auto Performance, sport cat downpipes from Fabspeed, and this car is incredible. The sound of the supercharger just screams, and the exhaust, which are stock, sounds like a v8 F type. I have not put it on a Dyno, but it must be well above 450 HP at the wheels at this point if not more. I simply love this car and have already put 30k miles on it.

Just to let you know Ian Callum was also a designer for HSV. If memory serves me correct he designed the VS commodore range of HSV's and possibly the VT range as well. One thing that I have learnt from watching your videos well more precisely from Jim is to service your vehicles more often than what the manufacturer recommends. It clearly is a marketing gimmick to get people to buy their vehicles. Subaru receive criticism for having relatively short service intervals but I think Subaru are being realistic. Six month intervals I think are the sweet spot and servicing things like the gearbox more often can only be a benefit. Anyone who buys a Jaguar would have to be mad. With poor customer support on top of bad reliability issues when there are better options from Genesis, Kia and Lexus, then why would anyone torture themselves buying a Jaguar.

On a random note, the rear of these are a dead ringer for the FGX Falcons. But yea to your last paragraph, status probably - people go ooh and aah towards upmarket heritage Euro brands while upmarket offshoots of mainstream Japanese/Korean brands don’t get that sort of love. At least not here in Australia, Americans on the other hand seem to be lapping up Lexuses, Acuras and Infinitis - I’m pretty sure Lexus was their No. 1 luxury brand in the mid 2000s well ahead of Mercedes and BMW. If there’s one American trend I like its the near-luxury car brands. I’d like something more upmarket but I’m not made of money, and right now it’s either a high trim mainstream car that often drives fairly ordinarily or a barebones luxury car that arguably is built and drives better but is multitudes more expensive and everything is optional.

Problem with the infotainment was pretty annoying but went to the dealership once and they fixed it for me in an hour. No mechanical problems whatsoever, even after VAP tune and crank pulley replacement, though I do service it very diligently. Yes, it's a pain in the ass sometimes, but the car feels so much more special than the 4 series and Mercedes SUV I drove before. The Mercedes turbo 8 cylinder had WAY more problems than the Jag as well... Never regretted my purchase.

They are because of the ridiculous service intervals which is too long. A lot fail because people don't check oil levels which these diesels do use up over the miles, so the hydraulic timing chain tensioners ends up with no oil to push them. Or the oil quality dimishes and level goes too low to the point the timing chain doesn't have oil to lubricate it leading to friction and stretching. I do changes at 8000k on mine. Audi and Mercedes have similar issues but they are less due to service intervals being encouraged sooner.. Jaguar Land rover marketing department needs schooling on engines

@@teem5642 All JLR product with these engines have warnings to tell u if oil level is low. The dash will tell u when a service is due. DPF Regenerations do dilute the oil When oil gets too diluted, the car will also tell u that u need to change oil etc. I totally agree that 2 yr / 34,000 km Service Intervals are ridiculous Should be every 12 months / max 20,000 km The fact that soooo many Ingenium 4 cylinder diesel motors have problems, indicates that these engines have design issues…

Again, nice video and lots of information! Thanks for making this! I've been narrowing down the options as my wife's next ride, and the XE is the closest contender to the top choice, W204 or W205 C Merc. I like the handling of the XE more than W205, and I really like how the Jag makes the driver feel more 'special', kind of. You can also grab a moderately used one a great deal cheaper than a W205 of same age & mileage. However, with the mrs putting another 100k through this car in next 3 years or so, I'm pretty sure the Merc will keep its resale value MUCH better than the XE. Which is understandable, but kind of sad. The possible foibles & repairs... Well, we've had a Volvo in our household, and despite the expensive spare parts and stupidly complicated engineering (which made certain repairs really expensive), it was still just a Volvo. And we also had a BMW in the past, and no matter how much money you threw into repairing small & moderate issues in it (hint: A LOT of money), it couldn't fix the issue that it still was a BMW with painfully firm ride. And, the single most expensive repairs we've ever had to do in our household cars are still Hyundai and Nissan. ;-)

The problem with this article is he tested the wrong model of the XE. The Diesel he drove is made for economy...many hyper-milers get over 50 with the Diesel. The Jaguar XE R-Sport has 340HP, and is easily tuned to 553BHp on E85. Pretty close to the 595Hp in the P8, with a Six Cylinder. I'm on my second tuned XE 35t, the first XE sacrificed it's usable life for my life in a 50Mph head first collision. I walked away without a scratch. We will take it to Texas Mile in October, I'm likely to be one of the only Jaguars there.

I have 2017 20t xe. Zero problems but low milage 40k km. An xe is very impractical 🤣 long rear doors, small boot opening. Drives very good and sportif, really nice engine noise. Automatic zf gearboxes need indeed fresh oil after 60k km but modern standards say its sealed for life -> problems to come.

They info I got here in the UK is slightly different. I researched before buying my xe and all the info online and forums pointed to that the petrol was more reliable and it was the for eco boost engine that was the one having the issues. I have 19 plate xe petrol and have to say feels solid, drives better than other cars I've had including mercedes c class cars. Looks and drives better than the competition. The thing is now it's all about maintaining your car regardless of what it is you buy. Oil is the blood of a car so keep it fresh and treat the car right and sure it be fine. Harshy with it and neglect your car I'm sure no matter what make it will have issues.

Moved to jaguar in 2018, dabbled in a second hand XE petrol and had 4 years totally trouble free motoring, I have never driven a car quite like it in my life, Audi, BMW, Merc are just boring in looks and especially drive. I bought a special edition Reims in 2022 with 10k on the clock and it's so good am never going to sell it. It's a huge head turner as it looks magnificent in French racing blue with the blacked out roof, wheels, mirrors and windows. It drives so well on country roads, I often see BMW and Audi or boy racers in their golf right up my pipes as I drive 60mph but on the bends I rarely slow down if I can see clearly ahead and my Jag sticks to the road like glue and I always smirk as I look in the mirror and see the car behind fall back as they brake. So 2 Jags both 2nd hand over 6 years and the only replacement bits were front brake disks on my first car. This is why Jag drivers look smug, we know we are driving the best cars :)
