Video 91 The video cover the part numbers, cost, lead lengths and possible cable routing when applied to a Jaguar Xk8 (X100). Recently bought a CTEK MXS 5.0 battery charger have been investigating the best way to connect it all up with the series of comfort lead accessories available. The benefit of these CTEK chargers is the comfort connector and the amount of compatible accessories. Unfortunately some of these are quite expensive. I show a very quick run through the CTEK Comfort connector battery charger accessories and how you might use them on your Jaguar Xk8. I want using the battery charger to be as easy and convenient as possible. Hopefully a simple as possible and without any faffing about. Plug and play. CTEK is trying to help solve that issue.
The video covers most of the common CTEK accessories through 8 sections.
1 - Battery access
2 - Std Crocodile clips
3 - Cigarette lighter lead
4 - Standard Eyelet lead
5 - LED indicator lead
6 - LED indicator panel
7 - 2.5m Extension lead
8 - Bluetooth monitor

exactly what I did about 7 years ago, works a treat, unless driving or engine running I permanently leave it connected to the mains as I don't have a garage but all year cover.

I am thinking of installing the ctek flush mount in the boot. I don't have the CD changer, so I have the recess on the drivers side. I might put a bit of Velcro/plastic/carpeted piece in and cut a hole and mount the adaptor. I could add a cigarette charger and a proper voltmeter into it as well just be flash. I have the Ctek Sense. It works fine but the range it pointless. You have to be right up close to the car. Which is fine for me as the car sits directly outside my living room window but for others it would be worthless as it would only work when you are in the car. Then all you need is a cigarette charger with the volt meter built in at the front of the car to monitor it. I also have the quick connecter with the monitor on it poking out of the boot floor. That works well for now.

Dave, sounds like you’ve been through this before me. I am happy to have the charger and sorting out a convenient lead location. A couple of friends have other makes of Bluetooth battery monitors but they use them on camper vans. I can see the point on monitoring them. But for the xk8 is it that critical? Interested to hear if you found it useful? Thanks for the input and comment regards Damian

@@ODRModurol Hi Damien, it is useful from the point of view being able to monitor the voltage from outside the car and the traffic light quick connector does a good enough job of giving a quick view of the health of the battery. I have my cigarette USB/volt reader in the front which is just as good at monitoring the status. However, I have found the bluetooth adaptor useful because the car is outside the front window and I've charged the car a couple of times when I could see it getting low. I think you could live without it though to be fair and spend the £50 on something else.

Thanks Damien for explaining all the possibilities, most useful. By the way, my car had been VOR for about 8 weeks & was as flat as a pancake, so much so could not even open the boot. Tried the key in the badge to no avail, maybe had never been used before. The only way I could get some power into the system was to use a Li power pack connected to the terminal under the bonnet & earthed onto a nearby bolt, pressed the boot release button & hey presto. Never thought of using that position as a charging point though as much easier than the boot & no bootlight drain, however minimal as it does time out. Cheers

Alan, thanks for compliment. The under bonnet connection was something another owner had suggested. As you say it’s quite convenient and isn’t anywhere near the battery. Thank you for the confirmation work for you and it allowed you to get into the luggage compartment. Good Reference. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

@@ODRModurol Credit where it is due, I forgot to mention John from TTG provided the tip after I tried through the cigarette lighter, & my wife bouncing up & down on the boot lid, with no success ! I had seen suggestions such as removing the rear seats !! Need to sort that lock mechanism but not sure how to get at it. After your idea I have just put my charger on under the bonnet. Thanks again

Alan, John’s videos are really great 👍. I had similar issue with my boot lock. I did take the boot trim off to get at it. But if I remember correctly not much to get at and ended up just spraying WD40 into the lock from the outside. Maybe another subject for a video👍 thanks for the comment regards Damian

Superb video especially showing all the options. I’m looking to setup a solar power version as the garage where I store the car has no power. Albeit the CTEK variant is really expensive. Nice to see you have a 96 Xk8 same as me, so I know any video you do will match my car.

Great video Damian. With your recommendation I bought one of these and also the eylet connector with led's. So simple with the socket outside the boot trim, just simply plug in. My car is off road for the Winter Months, is it ok to leave it on all the time?

Andy, did think about that option. But decided to have the lower voltage lead for safety and can easily see the charger LEDs as going to mount on the wall or bench top. Both ideas work. Thanks for the input, much appreciated regards Damian
