THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I never realized the reason I was having such a hard time with this was because I was crossing my arm over my heart until now! She explained it in such the perfect way that it totally clicked with me and now I'm nailing this move and feel like a fairy! much love~

I love your hoop outfit .I was almost going to pass this tutorial up because my instructor showed me the float many times . What you said about stopping the isolation at the arm pit and not turning the hoop beyond heart level sounds easy to understand and helpful. I'll try it . Integration is so what I wan't to achieve . Sometimes I feel like I'm in a rut repeating the same moves and I wan't to break out of old patterns .

Thanks for this great tutorial! I started hooping a few months ago and have not found any studios that offer hoop dance instruction in Maine, so I appreciate all that you and your friends have done to make learning accessible. Before watching this tutorial I was crossing the center line of my body and having to spin way too fast in order to pull off a float, which was interfering with my flow. Now I definitely feel more graceful when incorporating this move. THANKS! >^..^

Many thanks .Going on a retreat is a bit of an investment of resources but I really like your drill idea . It takes some of the pressure off and is a good way to hone my skills .

Hey there! Your hoop may be to heavy or you may need more momentum when you spin. Try to to go a bit faster and see if that helps. Thanks for watching!

Aloha! Shakti's dress can be found at theomcollection. Of course, I'm a bit biased but coming to Bali is a sure-fire way to get out of a rut. Actually, any retreat scenario will help with that. Another thing that might help would be to concentrate less on dance right now and go to drills. Think of a few things that you really want to sharpen and just do that for a while. When you get back to flow practice, you may experience some openings. Tell us how it goes! Much love, jm

@Megan Robinson you'll have.to give your hoop a good lift to get it above your head. If you're using a heavy hdpe (usually black with tape) hoop, it may be a little harder. If you've got a polypro hoop, its going to be easier, because the hoop is lighter.

thanks for the tip on the arm going across... helped me with the trick! although now i have a problem with the hoop sliding in my palm when they're sweaty. Instead of the hoop rising horizontally, it slips and goes diagonal. So it either hits my butt or the back of my head. :/ I'm not sure if it's because my hoop is heavy (I'm using an adult-size hoop) or I'm still doing something wrong. :( Still, many thanks! I can now do the trick when my hands are dry. LOL!

I love this but i can't seem to get the hoop back up, it feels really heavy? I have a beginners hoop though so maybe it would be easier with a polypro one but I also have problems crossing the heart :( but this was so beautiful

When I try a one handed float my hoop flops down. I have only been hooping for a month and a half and its a 36" poly pro. I'm not sure whether the hoop is too heavy for me or whether its a case of persevering and my wrists will get stronger?

Is there a tutorial for the opening move Shakti does in this video? With doubles - I think it may be called a fishtail but I could be wrong. If someone could help me out that would be great!
