Respect Shaka ...as a youngster just getting into reggae music, my friends were telling me to go to a sound system Dance and listen ...Dem Dayz Quaker City, Coxsone, Fatman, Tubby etc. were mashing it up, but first time listening to Shaka!! was like This dude is on another level to the others, One deck, selected, operated & DJ the ultimate one man Band.. so different but so Amazing the sound effects he was the original Don Gorgon ...Tops & Bass all he played ..which is the origins for what we call now Drum & Bass Shaka only Played 3 types of Music , when all the other sound Systems moved on to Rub'A'Dub, Dancehall & Bashment ..Jah Shaka still today plays the same way as back in the 70's....Rocker's , Jumpers & Steppers Bless

@@monomixerShaka used to come to Reading and play some with some big sounds back in the late 70'S and 80's Quaker City, Jah Tubys, Fatman etc. then came the introduction of RuB A Dub, that was a big swing as it was more inclusive of the ladies who didnt want to hear the Dub & roots music... and most of the Big london sounds followered that path..but Shaka was a lone warrior ! kept he's foundation and kept playing roots & culture Music and the following to a point dropped! ...until Dub & Bass was introduced which was Guys who loved the Dubs the sirens & sound effects that sounded & looked so random as you saw Shaka go into the dub box pick out a tune play the tune Dj on the tune touch up the Tops to start for a while and then bust the basline when the tune hit the point were peeps were begging for the Flat Raw Bassline... then he would just lock off the tops & Drill the B-Line ...he was a Master Mixer..Drum & Bass was the progression of jAH sHAKA's Music! Which brought on a Cult following in the 90's till the present Day.. as we was followered Globally. tours in Europe, Japan & Asia, South America's & Africa..the man became a Legend as the most global sound system from the Uk Now the terms Jumpers as we used to call it was when shaka set up he would warm up with some Rockers, just to warm up the crowd then push in some Steppers when the crowd were nicey entertainered and then Mix & blend with rockers & steppers ...then he would unleash a few Jumpers Ie ...Steppers on Turbo! we he saw the crowd wanted to just let off ... which might be the Vibe from the tune 'feel like jumping by marcia griffiths.. and when he played he's last tune for the night it would be a Jumpers ... Noel Zebulon-Crucial Dub, prince malachi unrealsed cut, dUB pLATE AS A EXAMPLE .. you just wanna Jump and step! RIEP ...The Lion AKA Jah Shaka

@@tonystewart6592 interesting hearing your memories ,and I take your points about Shaka having a (sometimes big) influence in other musical sub-genres. As an aside I used to really enjoy those occasions when Shaka dropped a tune such as 'Feel like jumping'! So many tracks from so many artists were introduced directly to me by Shaka and the majority, but not all, shared certain characteristics that marked them out, if you like, as something noteworthy. But also, you nearly always understood why that music had caught Shaka's attention. In a way, his personal endorsement transcends the labels we otherwise use for a tune, like say "This is a steppers riddim' -- because adding 'as played by Jah Shaka' would confer a further kind of official Approved status. For decades I was collecting music every minute of my non-working days as well, but often, hearing a certain music at Shaka was the way I discovered it. Parking myself for hours on the front desk at Dub Vendor & Daddy Kool was always fruitful, but I went to Shaka dances to find out what I needed to find out about. (again as an aside, the main reason I recorded many dozens of live sessions was so I had time, later, to identify & then find those musics) . Put in simple terms, for someone like me, Shaka playing something made it immortal, and (for me, anyway) that status does not wear off, ever. Hope my comment / reply of sorts, taken in the positive spirit it is offered. Rest in Peace Jah Shaka

I went to a Shaka vs Kilimanjaro Dance at a Black Women's Centre in the Tottenham area in 86, took a couple of mates who'd never been to a proper Soundsystem business night and they were in bits at first cos of the physicality of the Bass 😆An they were initially paranoid as we were the only white people in there, anyway great Shaka as ever, respect for the upload
