Joining at Suez southbound for loading in the Gulf. This trip to finish Special Survey started on previous ballast trip from Aruba to Gulf via Cape Town. Date is mid 2001. As she is now going for scrap this shows her on the move. Was somewhat windy at times in the canal.

Wow, these are excellent videos - yes a little rough - but they capture this giant perfectly. You can see from your videos that in truth she had seen better days, and was a bit rough inside compared to a new ship. All the same, her demise is a loss to the world of shipping.

At 4:13 you can clearly read the name Jahre Viking on the hull. And this ship looks exactly like in the pictures you can see on the Internet if you search by this name. So, what other ship could it be? Now about crossing the Suez, who knows... Maybe if it was empty. I don't think its 68.8-metre beam would be much of a problem, only the draft could be an issue. And it looks empty in this video.

Looks in bad shape here. The day of the super super tankers was the 70s 80s the fact it survived till 2010 with today's running costs is impressive. Oil tankers seem to be getting smaller now. nice video did the job
@sealover5861

Actually the bigger a ship is the less fuel it uses for every ton of cargo it transports. The biggest cargo ships of today can transport 1 ton of cargo about 1000 miles using only about 1 gallon of fuel (400km/litre). In this case the bigger the better. The real reason why tankers are smaller now is that they are more practical. The Jahre Viking was too big for many ports and fully loaded she couldn't even sail through the English Channel.

@Janusha yeah, and it never will be now! those 2500 year old temples were once just obsolete 30 year old outdated buildings, but someone put historical value and tradition over cost. it takes money to keep anything preserved, how much do you think it costs in security and insurance just for the mona lisa? i'm not saying it wouldn't have been really expensive, but certainly worth the cost of building a dry dock to store it in, people would have paid to come and see her.
