I've had three pet raccoons. Never do it. You have to baby lock everything, they scratch you even if they don't mean to, and they fight each other all the time. They are super cute and had super cute phases, but they're just too much to handle.

As soon as I saw this I knew it'd be a great collab since Jaiden is a big animal (especially bird) lover. Haven't watched nearly as much Alpharad content but he seems to be in a similar boat. Very similar to the Trihex collab where they were down and excited to meet all the animals.

*WARNING:* _This comment is EXTREMELY long. But it is a story about someone with a raccoon as a pet! (x2 actually!) So, IMO, it’s pretty interesting and worth the read!!_ Oddly enough, growing up, two of my closest childhood friends each had baby raccoons as “pets” at different times. (Surprise! I grew up in the middle of nowhere in Western Pennsylvania! lol.) In both situations, the babies were found with their deceased mothers and siblings along side the road. (Sadge.) And _both_ of my friends’ parents, somehow, decided that bringing the baby raccoons home to raise was the best solution. 🤷🏼 As an adult now myself, I realize that the _actual_ best thing to do would’ve been to reach out to a wildlife organization/sanctuary/etc and to hand the little tykes over to them or do whoever they suggested they do with them. Now, this _was_ (obviously) during a _very_ different time and information wasn’t _nearly_ as widely available as it is now. Especially when pertaining to situations such as this. But come ON, the thought of reaching out to Animal Control, even just to hear what they had to say about it, _had_ to have at least crossed their minds at _some_ point, wouldn’t ya think?! I digress. I will say that the baby raccoons were ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! Also, my memory of pretty much everything else about BOTH situations is super foggy as, like I previously stated, I was pretty young when both instances took place. Now, I _do_ remember that the one family kept the kit (Yes, I just looked up what baby raccoons are called for the telling of these stories. Unfortunately I didn’t think to do so until now and I am _not_ gonna go back and edit any of my comment as it’s already taken longer to write than I had anticipated. lol.) in their freaking house with them while it was still little. (To be fair to them it _may_ have been so young that it hadn’t been fully weaned yet. Though that seems like even _more_ of a reason to contact actual professionals. But what do I know? lol.) Meanwhile, the other family kept “their” kit in a wooden box/cage that you would frequently see people use to raise their pet bunnies in back in those days. (It was the 90s. Shit was pretty wild back then. lol.) Again, as I’ve already stated, I don’t really remember much else about either raccoon situation _or_ their outcomes. What I CAN tell you is that I only ever saw either of them when they were straight up BABIES. I’m fairly certain that neither of them died while being taken care of by the families (That’s _something,_ I guess?) but I can also guarantee that, sadly, neither raccoon had a happy ending, which is a HUGE bummer. If I had to guess, knowing both of these families, both of the raccoons were simply “released” back into the woods once they became too complicated/dangerous to care for. And, thanks to Maya, we all know why the two of them being sent back off to live on their own after being raised by humans during their most formative months of their lives doesn’t bode well for either one of them. Now, I don’t know much about raccoons (No shit, right? lol. I straight up told y’all that I had to google what the term for baby raccoons is. lol. Remember, kids, it’s “kit”. lol.) so I very well could be _completely_ wrong about all of this. (And for the sake of those two sweet, little kits, I REALLY hope that I am!) Anyway, perhaps _both_ families happened to “rescue” those little fellas at the exact right time in their lives in which they got of gist of how to fend for themselves out here in rural PA, even though they weren’t quite big enough to do it themselves just yet, were _then_ taken care of by humans for a short enough period of time that it didn’t leave _too much_ of an impression on them, and they were _then_ “released” at the exact right age, with _just enough_ information left in their wee, little brains from the “before times” and they absolutely _THRIVED_ out in the woods all on their own. However, as absolutely WONDERFUL as that all sounds, I strongly doubt that it’s the case. (Though I will say that, the family who kept “their” kit indoors _did_ have their pet duck killed/eaten by a raccoon six or so months after they’d brought Rocky home as a kit. (Yep! I just now randomly recalled what they named their kit and, yes, it was Rocky. Rocky the raccoon.) I also recall the family accusing Rocky (Who was, allegedly, off living his best life in the woods surrounding their house.) of the duck’s viscous murder. So if there’s _any_ truth to _any_of what they said, then that kit DID end up having a “happy ending” after all! That poor duck sure as shit didn’t though. lol. Well, that’s everything I’ve got about “pet raccoons” (Those are two words that should *NEVER* go together. Whether it’s “pet” the noun or “pet” the adjective, it _really_ doesn’t matter! Keep that word the hell away from _any_ wild animal!) I should also say that, even though both of these families dropped the ball BIG TIME when it came to rescuing those orphaned kits, their hearts _were_ in the right places at the time/they genuinely thought that they were doing the right thing. But, at the end of the day, just as Maya is always saying, wild animals are *NOT* meant to be pets. And that’s the morale of my _extremely_ “long winded” story! (Er… stories?) lol.
