I myself have felt extrememly strongly from day 1 of this war that it is an absolute crime, much to my suprise, my own parents started repeating Russian talking points early on and it made me very upset. Excellent?? Ukraine is out of trained men, artillery, air power, rear defenses. Russia signs 30k Volunteers a month, can end Ukraine power grid, has air superiority. America itself could not overcome these odds. They are misleading Americans. Sadly Ukraine's conventional force will not make 2025. Do your own research, this channel is Western propaganda. Like every war, they tell us America is winning....all the way to the country falling. Jake is always my ' go-to' person for an update on the war in Ukraine. He is authentic, thoughtful, analytical and an incisive thinker. Where i would differ about the future is that until American soldiers are directly in the conflict zones the money markets will continue to see the war as a way to make profit and political thinking/action will be constrained. Unless the Russian regime or the Russian Federation collapses Ukraine will be on the front lines alone for the foreseeable future. Well done Silicon Curtain for having Jake on screen. Slava Ukraine

Great conversation, I have been studying Russia for over 40 years. I did several reports on demographic situation since the late-90's. Russia's demographic fall was evident in the 90's and has not improved since. This war will only accelerate and exacerbate the critical situation of the population. I predicted in '98 that by 2030 Russia's population would be around 125-130 million, and that is where it is, that is the actual Russian-native population, the population is around 140 million because of immigration from China and Central Asian countries (they gained a net 12 million from 2008 to 2018). Since 1990, Russia's population has dropped from 165 million to where it is now at 140 million (125 million ethnic Russians). This war is a root to those symptoms to grow a population that is supposedly like them, boy they got that wrong. They thought they could gain a free 50 million by swallowing up Ukraine. The ratio of men to women is 46 to 54, definitely not amicable to baby growth. That is why the state wants to promote and award super moms, but the men aren't there.

Russia is commiting a form of suicide in Ukraine. While Putin has mobilized the non ethnic European Russians ( buryats, tuvans, Dagestan, etc.) and they are dying in massive numbers, enough will survive and will become excellent fighters able to lead the eventual insurgency to free these ethnic republics from Moskovy rule. This war has certainly accelerated this process.

In the late 70's Brezhnev worried about the 'yellowing of the East' and encouraged ethnic Russians to have babies. it failed. So I would say 'since the 70's'. Thanks though, it's interesting to read someone who sees the bigger picture. The Ukr/Russ have suffered and fought side by side for 300yrs. Now the Ukr's loath them. FYI alot of nationalistic Russian bloggers are also saying this was the wrong war to fight.

@@moiseshuerta3984 Yes, but we're not talking about Ukraine's population makeup (which certainly would not have worsened if Ukraine was allowed to follow its own path), only Russia's the great threatening neighbor. Similar things can be said of Western Europe and Asia, but the difference is that the Europe provides decent health care to an aging population, they live longer, yes the birth rate is low, but Russia's is lower, and the death age among males is around the high 50's low 60's. In Europe it is 7 to 10 years older, as well as in Asia. In the US, it's about the same as Europe among the white population, but the longer health at a longer age allows someone to be productive a little bit longer. Russians don't have that ability. The health car is abysmal outside of the major cities, as the statistics of those that live in rural areas is a lot worse and the population that is wealthier and have better access to a combo of state and private healthcare and food live longer and skew the statistics upward. Since, most of the male bodies are coming rural areas, the maximum age of life is going to drop like a rock in the coming years, with suicides, alcoholism related diseases and shear abandonment. And I hate to sound cruel, but women WILL not want to mate with a wounded ex-soldier missing limbs are badly damaged psychologically from the trauma, and PTSD. Russia can go around and pump its chest about the bravery of their men, but at what cost to the entire society? This is a disgusting side effect of a dictator that is seeking glory at the extension of his third member. Russia should be a very rich and prosperous nation, but she has always chosen a usurping, f'd up dictatorship since inception.

Just reading books by Ken Follett. , his characters are of course fictional, but his descriptions of the historical background are the well researched! Be it napoleon’s war wars etc. or the start of ww 2. I was born in the Czech Republic, grew up in Iraq, and had to learn Russian to be able to attend a school a school under Russian Warsaw pact regime. in Kenya, Uganda, as a Norwegian citizen and now living in Germany. Howdy Jonathon, always a good interview especially with Jake. The importance of Ukraine for the sake of democracy cannot be overstated. While here in the USA we might have become complacent with it to the point of where it’s become eroded in front of eyes, in the Eastern Europe, where the threat is so visceral in the form of genocide, the fight for democracy is so vital for survival, not just for Ukraine, or Eastern Europe, or the whole of one region, but vital globally for a system of human civility and expansion of what humanity is all about.

This war is about NATO (USA and Britain) long running wet dream of destroying "weak" Russia. This proxy war was theorized by George Soros decades earlier. NATO supplies the weaponry but no troops. Ukraine supplies the troops and collects the body bags. Russia is (theoretically) drained down, bankrupted, weakened, and split into five smaller "controllable" entities. The defeated Russia would then be vulnerable to commercial plunder by western companies. Russia is loaded with precious minerals and petroleum reserves. I love your channel! Had a bloke last night message me as a voice of Ukraine asking why I haven’t joined the physical fight. This isn’t the first time. I explained that being a half a world away. I can’t uproot 6 kids and sell my house to pick up arms and leave my children parentless. He was very coarse. And I sympathize in a way. And I spend literally 12 hours every night fighting Russian propaganda. Mind you the US hasn’t been invaded. I did ask him why he isn’t here guarding our southern border (and it’s a sham) but the point is logistically it’s not possible. He tried to shame me to join the fight. I’m old. My children need me. I won’t thrust them into an active war zone. Just my 2 cents. Slava Ukraine.
