This wasn't a "concert" per se. It was an awards show with other groups performing as well (can you imagine following this performance?). However, for the past several years BTS has, indeed, turned their awards shows into a BTS concert. Hence the huge crowd. Have you seen their 2022 Grammy performance yet? It was awesome! They had everyone (including the other artists) on their feet, cheering and screaming.

The crowd doesnt go crazy for certain members, all seven are loved. it's usually because in that moment people see the closeups on big venue screens, thats it :)

It's when the face close-ups are shown on the big screens that the screams get louder, they're all very popular. My favourite Idol performance is at their Wembley Stadium concert, shows them and how good they are rather than all the special effects 💜

A lot of BTS songs are actually ment to incorporate the crowd in the song. So a studio version of a song will be VASTLY different from a live version where you can hear the crowd

Hi Jake, and welcome to the BTS rabbit hole. I watched a Korean Award Show recently which was spread over two days! This stage was highlighting Korean traditions. Jimin got an award from the Fan Society for his performance. IDOL is always a trip. Watch the mv, it’s psychedelic. You have to do the dance practices because they are often fun versions and you don’t have to be a dancer to enjoy them. They love to dance so it’s an important part of who they are.

Do you know how difficult it is to sing good while dancing difficult choreography? Very talented boys.

I started watching them when they came to the US in 2017 and have not stopped. Their material is endless but the award shows performances are really good. The last concert in Busan is a reflection from beginning to present.

An award show turned to a BTS concert. This is epic.

Jake, this wasn’t even a ‘concert.’ It was a performance at a Korean awards show. The Korean awards shows are unlike anything else, often compared to a BTS concert when they’re performing there. The one member you mentioned, Suga, is pronounced like Sugar without the R. Suga chose his name from the first syllables of ‘shooting’ and ‘guard’ (shooting guard = shoo + gua = su-ga) cuz he used to play and loves basketball.🏀

Got him, here come the dance practices! Which may I say give you a great appreciation of just how well they dance and how in synch they are. Also shows and MV's don't really focus on the dance alone so it would be a shame to miss the practices as they are worth watching. They do the funny Halloween ones as well so it's just another aspect of their performances to enjoy. Great to see you dragging in the rest of the staff Taylor! 🤣🤣 I'm sure they'll enjoy the journey. I think the next reaction should be your Intro video so Jake gets more familiar with the members, and becomes more vested in their story. Great job, enjoyed it!

Please ALWAYS have subtitles on. BTS songs have deep meaning. BTS is made up of 3 rappers-RM, Suga, and J-Hope, 4 singers, V, Jimin, Jin and the youngest Jungkook. They are all multi-talented yet remain humble. They love their fans (known as ARMY), who are every age. Go down the BTS rabbit hole, you will NEVER regret it. My personal fave is SAVE ME. So many good ones, many genres. So glad my daughter introduced me to them 3 years ago, just wish it was sooner. This performance was done with careful attention to the South Korean culture, as their haters (underground hip-hop rap artists) continually call them sellouts and too westernized. Idol lyrics call out their haters to just leave them alone with their petty remarks, because according to the main line "you can't stop me loving myself" and "call me artist, call me idol" "I don't care, I'm free" "I do what I do, I do what I want". The members are wearing traditional, yet modern, hanbok robes, dancing the Joseon era mask play and dance, along with Jimin's modern take on traditional fan dance, the lion folk dance. This performance was to basically shut down all of their critics. I think they succeeded in the mist beautiful way!

I love the fact that this performance was a big 'F you" to haters. Leading up to this, BTS had been getting a lot of flak for losing sight of their Korean selves and becoming too westernized. Basically, there were people who were saying that they were selling out. The three dance sections at the beginning all showcase a traditional form of Korean culture. J-Hope does a popping dance with a large group of women in traditional folk dress performing a routine on the buk- which is a drum used in Korean folk music. Jimin performed Buchaechum - which is a traditional Korean fan dance that is typically performed by large groups of female dancers. Jungkook performed a variation of Cheoyongmu type dance - which is performed with hansam (extended sleeve like props) attached to the wrists and while wearing a mask. The music for the song played throughout this time was primarily played on Korean cultural instruments and lead into the intro of the song accompanied by a traditional Pungmul celebration with drummers, acrobats, singers, folk dancers wearing sangmo (long ribbon hats) that they twirl to the beat, and the elaborate portrayal of Korean dragons. This was all done with the members wearing modern fusion versions of the traditional Korean Hanbok. It was an elaborate show of fusing the modern and the traditional, the west and the east. And pretty much everyone (even the haters) could not stop gushing over how awesome it was.

BTS wasn't as popular in South Korea, I mean they were popular, but their global reach wasn't really understood or respected in some ways...but with Idol, and especially after this performance they basically owned Korea. They were being told they were being too western, etc. This song, the MV and especially this performance is loaded with traditional korean sounds and elements and cultural references. Watching Korean people react to this is such a trip, the amount of pride the whole country had for BTS after I think is probably unprecedented, with them winning cultural awards, etc. And the lyrics are really meaningful too consider what was said to BTS members when they first started out, being looked down on as "Idols" and being told they were sell-outs, etc. Really it's a big fuck you to everyone there, with the message of I love myself no matter what you think or say...gives me goosebumps...haha, and people started falling over themselves to be close to BTS after this.

Sorry Jake your reaction was genuine and that always gets a like from me ;) also a closet meanie. Seriously don't give into work peer pressure by continuing. BTS and KPop and world pop has alot to offer that we've been missing b/c our radio play and awards are restrictive. Now I feel shammed any time I watch an awards show. All the standing there, out of breaths, lip syncing for us and the world gets THAT. Not a concert but an awards show.
