To be fair, this is how boxing works. The sanctioning body (athletic comission/federation) overlooks the rules and health of the fighters, the belt organizations run their own rankings for titles, and it's promoters and managers who matchmake. If a promotion can make a fight happen, and the ruling authority sanctions it, that's it. There's no Dana White of boxing to put a stop to it.

In most states you cannot have an amature fight if your already professional even in different combat sports Like in Illinois for example if your a pro mma, you have to have your debut fight as a pro if you compete in boxing kickboxing or muay Thai. Exibitions you can have but only as a pro contest. Once your a pro in 1 your a pro from now on.

Okay now use 10 Oz gloves. 14 Oz gloves, the extra padding is to soften the blow, the normal gloves they use in pro boxing is to protect your hands & protect others from being punched with a broken bone popping out but those sissy cushioned 14 oz'ers are to soften punches to lessen the chance for KO's in sparring.

Jake needs to realize fights like this are a lose lose situation for him. If he wins "he beat a 57 year old." If he loses he "was of course gonna lose and to a 57 year old too". Yes this draws attention and makes money but if he really wants that serious boxer credit, fights like this set him back.

It's about the money and the attention. Tyson is getting at least $20 million for the fight. Paul will probably get something similar. I'd fight Tyson for that kind of bank. As far as beating or losing to a 57 year-old, well, that 57 year-old is one of the best ever, so there's no real shame either way. At least none you can't live with for $20 million and a chance to box with a legend (even if he is 30 years past his prime).
