When it gave me control of Venom, I immediately handed the controller to my 7 year old son who is a massive venom fan. Kid smiled ear to ear the entire segment. So awesome

Martin Li was a huge standout for me this time. Mr. negative was a lot of fun in the first game, but where they took Li really elevated that character for me

One little thing: I really loved Tombstone's character, he felt so wholesome. He even shakes hands with Peter after they save him and it made my heart smile!

I love how the symbiote made Peter, MJ, Miles & Harry all tell the truth to each other. It was like therapy. Great story.

No one talks about the helping Howard side mission. It made me cry and is my favourite side mission. Its so beautifully done with the song playing out in the background whilst you travel with the flock to the emotional connection set by Howard. Executed perfectly

I loved how part of this game was Peter and Miles protecting villains it shows how deep their belief in saving people goes

Making Venom a playable character in game with a unique skills and everything for just a couple of moment of gameplay is just insane to think about. I appreciate more the effort Insomniac put to this game! *Still waiting for a patch where we can customized the color of symbiote abilities*

adding onto the peter miles relationship, i love how they both treat it like they’re coworkers lol miles showing up to a stakeout and peter going “hey man, glad you could make it” was adorable to me lol

I think it’s really interesting how they are setting up Norman. By keeping Harry alive, I can definitely see Norman being driven by hope far more compelling than him being driven by revenge.

I really like that they did Scream. Symbiote Peter did some extremely traumatizing shit to MJ that they don't really debrief about but with Scream putting him through something similar it feels more like MJ can see what that situation was like for Peter and not feel as scared of him or resentful for it

The moments in this game were spectacular! From Yuri, to Scream, the anti-venom suit, to Peter vs Miles this game just kept cracking the hype nob up as a Spider-Man fan.

i just loved those small interactions where you can go up to miles/peter after a fight, press triangle for an animation like them giving each other a quick hug or that little pointing meme. very cute, and adds to their dynamic even just a little bit.

When Kraven tells you harder while choking him with the symbiote. Yo Kraven, wtf?

Literally my only 'big" complaint is that I wish we got a venom fight running through the city throwing each other around like the rhino mall chase

I’m waiting for that Carnage DLC. I loved the gradual reveal of Cletus Kasady as “the flame”. When I first saw him in the 2nd mission I even kind of thought he looked like him but was thinking they’d be going a different route. Then my jaw dropped when he takes that symbiote and it turned red… good stuff.

Norman hating Spiderman at the end when Harry literally survived felt very forced to me. Like they literally stood in a room and said Harry is probably too far gone and you’ll have to kill the host, but spiderman still manages to keep Harry alive in the end, and we’re supposed to believe Norman wants to kill spiderman now??

The range of Insomniac's spiderman is crazy and I love it! They go from big spectacles like kraven hunting super-folks in broad daylight, to sweet little moments like helping Howard or that one old man find his granddaughter

As a die hard Symbiote fan this game did everything for me. So many sequences were packed in this game that I never imagined they'd do. Including some newer aspects from recent Venom runs that really showed how much Insomniac is committed to the Spider-Man mythology and giving it the love and respect it's earned over the decades of storytelling.

When Pete says “hey man, glad you could make it” at the first raft mission, I can’t explain it but that line hit different. It felt like he was talking to me in a crazy way. Between the VA’s and the cinematic’s, i felt more immersed in this game than any other game in a long time

One thing you didn't mention that got me excited, teasing Chameleon. A villain that's often overlooked but really has a lot of potential imo, especially the way they set him up by letting you investigate his apartment.

Feels weird Carnage was just a side mission reveal. Feels like it should’ve been more, yenno?

The Wakandan embassy was a great touch once you got the suit for Miles. Great tribute to Chadwick

I know a lot of people say they wish it was longer, and from one perspective, I agree, but I very much appreciate that they made a tight, solid story, with very little fluff or filler. Especially with how many studios seem to he looking for the "forever game" live service model,or trying to make a 200 hour game. Its very nice to see a developer respect my time and attention. Instead of making me hunt down 500 checklist items for a golden poop, it gave me a few thibgs to hunt, and asatisfying easter egg to conclude the hunt. Speaking of that easter egg, I REALLY liked the spider-verse suit animations. It was the chef's kiss on top of an already amazing game.

I loved how they even teased that Harry might become the goblin. During the start of the end sequence they discuss the game plan and use a DND-like Goblin for Harry. I hope they won't do that though since he already was the villain in this game. (Edit: spelling)

Amazing analysis man. You made an excellent point about Peter's look of pride when he sees Miles. As a guy who lost his own mentor figure early on and had to figure out being Spider-Man on his own way, I think he gets a sense of pride and accomplishment in himself as he sees how well Miles is turning out. I think this is one of the most positive representations of brotherhood and mentorship in gaming and it's pretty funny that we get relatively so little of it as they spend most of the game separated. One thing though - I think it's important to note that Miles does not forgive Martin Li, he explicitly states that he can never forgive him but his inspiration in Pete's belief in giving villains second chances gives him the mental strength to put aside his own conflicting emotions and allow Martin to help. I think this comes full circle when Pete himself tells Miles how surprised he is in how Miles "rehabilitated his greatest enemy" when he himself inspired Miles to do this.

I was with you, I loved the mission with Harry as Agent Venom and the whole theme here of redeeming all these super villains was great. But it turning into like a Web of Shadows sequel was my absolute favorite part, I had a big dumb grin when I saw the city start to get overrun cause that was like my favorite Spider-Man thing as a kid

The animation work in Spiderman 2 is stunning. The sheer amount of extremely high quality animation and blending seamlessly with gameplay is state of the art.

Grandpa lost on the park bench and Howard’s final pigeon mission made me ugly cry. Truly some of the best side quests insomniac has had in this series so far.

The minute Scream turned up, I had to pause the game and just take a second to comprehend how much insomniac were taking from the comics. I'm kind of new to the deeper comic book lore but seeing nice little references I understood was such a cool feeling

I loved that Venom was tied to Knull and being almost an eldritch horror, getting into peoples heads and giving them gross fleshy visions. I do REALLY hope that Venom can be brought back in some capacity expanding more on just the one level he had in a future title (or maybe DLC) And it would be crazy if Silk becomes the third and final character you can play as in the third game. Hopefully its all hands on deck over at Insomniac for the Wolverine game before the third and final game.

Fucking loved that ending. Martin Li being redeemed as a good dude, keeping the symbiote powers, MJ and scream, the depth of the relationships, and the insane depth of the gameplay despite feeling easier to manage. What a great game. Easily my game of the year

As someone who’s loved Mysterio since I was a kid I was floored to see them to such justice to the character. His boss battle was one of my favorites in the game. Happy he wasn’t sidelined

Miles' was underutilized in the story imo but still had so many layers to his arc. He actually didn't forgive Li, he told him he never would but he realized hating him wasn't serving him. I feel like that's even more mature (and realistic) than just forgiving Li.

The symbiote arc felt rushed for me. Wish the story was longer. Phenomenal game though. Hopefully they add all in all missing features from previous games in future patches.

I just wish there was more of Harry in the game, be it hanging with Peter and MJ or as one of the spider pals. The section where it’s available in the game before giving Peter the black suit was too short. Also, super glad they didn’t outright kill Harry since that’d just be too devastating, and I’m hoping Peter’s able to give him Anti-Venom to help treat his disease

When you see the book in the Crimson Hour cult with their idea of the fire taking over, and it's Carnage attacking, I was so excited to see what they did. The fact that they ended that story with a tease for a future game, is amazing. Does a good job of explaining what will most likely pull Peter out of retirement as well. Also, RIP Howard. Hope he's flying through the city as a pigeon right now.

Was my most hyped game this year and was blown away. The writing was so good. Got teary eyed during the find my grandpa side quest. Venom and the powers were exactly what I wanted

I feel like there hasnt been a game in a long time that respects the players time like this. Full of story the whole ride and i platinumed it with 28 hours of game time. I expected it to end after the venom kraven fight and make us wait for the next game to wrap up the storyline. Seeing scream, the carnage symbiote and then the King in Black suit, It just kept giving to spiderman and venom fans. I dont think ive ever been this satisfied at the end of a game.

Miles’s line to Martin Li about not being able to forgive him but that he can’t keep hating him was pure gold.

The emotion in this game was great. All the actors were amazing. The voices of Kraven and Venom was amazing.

The moment I saw The Flame's red hair and realized they weren't using his name, I was like, "That's Cletus Cassidy." And they didn't disappoint. In my humble opinion, they made him a little more interesting than other versions of the character.

As a 90s kid that was obsessed with Spider-Man. In particular the McFarlane run and the whole symbiote storyline. All I’ve wanted was to see the symbiote storyline done right. This game was absolutely incredible, a dream come true, and had my jaw on the floor over and over again. I just beat it last night and started my second play through today.

Love how the friendly neighborhood part of the character wasn’t lost despite the raised stakes, there’s still moments like the Howard mission or realm any of the friendly neighbourhood app or Brooklyn visions missions

I would like them to make more boss fights throughout the city. Many boss fights here are just in arenas that don't take advantage of the swinging. I also don't feel sure about the antivenom as a permanent thing. I thought Prter was gonna lose it, but it seems he's keeping it. Carnage is prime DLC material. Overall good game

Yuri and Peter’s difference in ideologies made for some compelling dialogue. And I’m glad that she pointed out the flaw in Peter in that he’s too willing to save one life at the expense of hundreds.

Venom with wings really surprised me, I thought that was so cool. I just wish they gave Venom a little more time in terms of story and build up. Everything went by so quick. I was a little disappointed the game didn't have the same gadgets from the first game, and the suits were mostly movie suits which I'm not a fan of. Having some are fine, but there were far too many Tom Holland suits, it's ridiculous. I'm excited to see Silk, Goblin and Carnage. Spider-Man 3 is gonna be rated M for Carnage, right? 😂

The end fight with venom in the high school was a throwback reference to ultimate spiderman on ps2

1. Rio is a smokeshow. 2. I honestly think this was my favorite interpretation of Venom. The Harry/Peter connection gave it a lot more emotional gravity than Brock. I also love that the Symbiote is the one pushing the Human element to hurt Spider-Man. Finally, the Symbiote immigrating Harry's mom in his head was soooo well done. 3. Miles's suit at the end was absolutely awesome, though I think I prefer the Red/Black color scheme that you can throw on it. Love this game

As a spidey fan and grew up watching mostly 90s - early 00s Spider-Man - this was a dream come true. Easily the best superhero game ever and the funnest of its genre.

Superior Spider-Man for Spidey 3? But Peter becoming evil again is a tired plot now. I hope Ock gets Spidey powers and becomes Superior and changes his morals , cures his insanity . Also I agree with Harry as Venom, exchanging his drug and inferiority problems from the comics with the symbiote/terminal illness plot is genius to me.

I feel like they definitely explored Peter and the death of May with the whole symbiote Spiderman story, how letting her die was pushing him to be a stronger Spiderman and find balance

Yeah I really liked it too, wasn’t sure on Harry as Venom coming into the game but Insomniac nailed it, it totally worked for me. Eddie Brock could have been interesting but I think Harry worked well plus they had the groundwork on their relationship and Harry’s character from the science stations in the first game to allow them to keep the story tighter. My one issue, and it is SOOO nit picky I know, is the parry mechanic, specifically the colour scheme. Having Red be the parriable attack colour is just maddening to me, the first 2 games trained my brain to hit dodge whenever I see red on the screen, I just couldn’t break that habit the entire 30 hours, just make it blue and have the unblockable attack be red, I get why they did it, you could parry attacks when your spider sense goes red too but it just didn’t work for me. By no means ruined my enjoyment of the game at all but it’s just such a weird choice and it never stopped ruining my combat flow

I don't read the comics so when stuff like Scream and Silk were brought up I had to look them up. I appreciate the game made me do that though because so much of that stuff is so cool. Happy that Insomniac is willing to break out of the mainstream to do cool stuff like that and help bring in people like me further into the fandom

Just finished it, there were so many incredible moments. I absolutely adored the game. I think above all else, they NAILED these characters. Kraven, Miles and Mr Negative are standouts as insanely good interpretations. Awesome to be able to experience this game as a lifelong Spidey fan.

I love this game, love the agent venom twist and the fact that he can show up while you are fighting crime, my only complaint is I want more of it, not necessarily a bad thing tho, but feel they haven't found the perfect balance of main action to side quest yet, but love it and excited about everything that they give to us in the future especially new game plus and Wolverine

I feel like this story, plus all the side missions are really well written. Like all the character moments and all the growth. Finally getting a Black suit for Peter, and just the boss fights are very unique and fun. Especially the final boss where you’re switching from Peter and Miles constantly. The whole symbiote invasion was so so cool. Really fun game.

Kinda surprised you didn’t mention the mysteriums or the Spiderverse easter egg. Great vid Jake, love the positive thoughts all around. I feel the same way about everything as you, but I did enjoy the MJ missions. I thought they improved upon them a lot and it gave. break from the other gameplay. Some people don’t like the side stuff where the gameplay slows down like riding the bike with Harry, the JJJ bike riding one, MJ missions, or Coney Island with the gang but I loved all them and felt they gave a ton of heart and emotion to the game so glad you liked majority of them. Your vids about the game are my favorite I’ve watched. Just positive and shows your love for Spider-man as a whole

I really loved it. Felt the relationship between the characters felt really fleshed out. Loves the moment at the end when MJ and Peter look so grateful to Miles for Peter to be able to take a breather. Lots of emotion in their faces. Also looking forward to what they do with green goblin

A couple of the little side stories where they talked about spouses, especially with the old guy whose wife had died, made me tear up pretty good.

One thing Im surprised how no many are talking about is actually seeing Venom eat Kraven’s head and seeing the body go limp and the blood dripping down. Like for a rated T game I was actually happy to see them really push the boundaries and not some corny cut away with celery breaking sounds

This game was truly amazing! I had so many OMG moments playing this game! The side content was really good as a Spider-Man fan from since the 90’s. But stories they carried from the first game in 2018 was great too. The Help Howard mission brought tears to my eyes. Such good writing by Insomniac.

I love how this game kept upping the ante. In a game where it's important to maintain the idea that killing characters is such a bad thing and then to have Kraven kill two of the villains outright, one of them being killed on screen really set a darker tone to me. And then even more so when Venom killed Kraven via ripping his head off, it told me the training wheels were no longer on this story and anything goes. That discomfort is what, in my opinion, made the story so much more meaningful. GOTY material right here 😊.

I love how good Pete and Miles were at working together, like how in the opening they were using their webs to throw each other around and give them momentum. I love stuff like that and it was cool to see it here!

I shed quite a few tears during the gameplay. With the ending, and the pigeon mission, and the lost grandparent. I really love this game!

So with Harry surviving, it’s possible venom is still inside him. Remember how connors said after a while a part of the symbiote will always be within the host? It’s also been shown that part can get reactivated, like it almost happened to Peter. My guess is that venom will come back but be much more docile. Rather than be hellbent on getting back to Peter he’ll be fine with staying to Harry

Insomniac is gaging interest in a Venom standalone, and they set it up perfectly. Miles will be the Spider-Man to handle it, and the stage is set for Venom vs Carnage. I can't wait. Then Spider-Man 3 will come out after Wolverine, which is confirmed to be in the same universe. The next 5 years of Insomniac is going to be incredible

Just finished the game and loved all the story beats. I was excited with all the villain appearances too. The part when you play as Venom was so cool and the last fight with Kraven felt like it was the only way to end that characters story.

I played Spider-Man so much that when I took a nap I had dreams about the game. I thought that I should take a break, but then I saw this video and got decided "damn, I really wanna play some more Spider-Man," and now I'm gonna. Thank you for encouraging me to pursue my dreams, Jake!

I think the game needed more playtime for develop better the main story… the act 1 have a good pace of introducing kraven and harry but act 2 felt rushed.. corrupted peter got mad really fast and didn’t have enough time to shine. Act 3 could have a bit more of hours too.

I'm not sure if many games have done this but the death mission you play as Haley when you have to find the spray paint person was pretty damn cool actually. I hope more games embrace that in the future titles. I'm trying to give us a different way of playing them and interacting with the world.

I really enjoyed it, it felt a little myopic with regards to the story where as the first felt a little more sprawling. I liked Kraven a lot and the Venom sequence is super fun. I'm interested to see where the expected DLC will go and how the handle the sequel, I love the idea of Green Goblin just attacking you out of nowhere while you're swinging through the city

I lost my mind when they hinted at Cindy-Silk in that final cutscene. I hope they’re brave enough to explore a Silk storyline/playable character because she’s become my favorite character in recent comics.

Loved how insomniac tells their own story without making it feel forced. They absolutely nailed venom, showed his motives now that Harry was the host and showcased how powerful he is. Excited for what they cook for the DLC and the final chapter 😁

Can we talk about how Yuri Lowanthal killed it in this game? He was amazing, the way he screams "HARRY! STOP!". And the game makes you pull the triggers all the way down and it's so cool.

i genuinely feel bad for Pete this entire game. Mans was going through it. Glad how it played out for him at the end, he deserves it.

This game made me feel like a kid again

I love that a lot of the villains you meet in the game in side quests are just trying to be good guys and start a new life and I really enjoyed being able to spend time with the little guy. Yeah I'm surviving venom and kraven, but it was really cool to spend time with Howard one last time or help the grandchild find her grandpa in the park. As much as I wish that it was longer, I'm very happy that it also didn't put tons of bloat in this game, it said what it had to say and moved on.

Game was absolutely incredible. 11/10 imo, the in game cinematics were insane. And i think making Harry Venom was the right choice for this Spider Man story. Instead of introducing Eddie Brock in this game, having Harry be Venom is a character we have already gotten know. I think it also makes it more impactful, making 2 best friends enemies is awesome. And i cnt wait to see Carnage!

I loved the Easter eggs in the game like referring to daredevil at the end of sandman questline and also chameleon was teased as kravens half brother with web of shadows Easter eggs.
