Yep. Tennessee should be Herbie's true owner not Jim even if Jim bought Herbie in the first place because he was the only one who knows Herbie is a living car and he know he listens everything so... This final part makes me happier because Herbie wanted to show Tennessee his true potential for being so loyal to him... Funny thing is Tennessee's face when Herbie's half was completely out and still running like "WTF!?" like what's happening was beyond his believing. Lol

That was probably a strategy, that Herbie though up himself. By splitting in two, he knew that one half of him would win. I believe it was Thorndike and his sidekick that put him back together at the end.

This is the first movie I remember seeing in a theater. I still remember laughing uproariously when the back of the car passed the front. It was the most hilarious thing I'd seen in my young life up to that point.

Why do they put tape on the headlights of the cars? Their are scenes where some of the cars have a cross tapped.

Dallas Salmon it was done primarily back in the day when cars actually used glass in the headlight assembly. In case of a stone or a collision the tape keeps the glass in place so it doesn’t go all over the place and cause an accident. Now a day’s headlight don’t use glass as plastic is light and can be shaped into a much more aerodynamic shape compared to glass headlights back in the day.

My mum was 7 years old when this movie came out. Her mum (my nanna) took her to the drive in theatre back in 1969 to watch it. Mum doesn’t remember much but she vaguely remembers seeing Herbie onscreen

I just had an intense realization watching this for the first time in years, that this movie alone sparked every single interest of mine going forward, when I was a very young kid. Everything I hold dear to my heart was in some way, influenced by The Love Bug. It’s kinda weird when I say it out loud, but it’s a powerful feeling when you have that realization.

The split in two Herbie was a car all to it self. It was actually BUILT that way. About 20 different cars played Herbie alone in this first film.

@@doctorfeinstone6524 Not exactly. The VW Beetle (here in Brazil we call "Fusca") was produced until 1996, with a brief interruption between 1986-1993. It was Mexico who produced this car until 2003. But here in Brazil the Beetle can be seen anywhere, mostly mistreated by time or owner, but some very well maintained.

I only recently just watched the original herby, and now I remember being to universal studios Florida with my grandparents when I was little and seeing that herby car split in half. I’m not sure if it had made sense to me I had only seen the 2005 version at the time and I barely remember that, but wow I didn’t appreciate that nearly enough. I bet it’s not even there anymore.
