3:45 That Low A0 is in fact the same as on a Piano although we now have Pianos that can play lower than that down to C0.

A0 ≈ 28 Hz (Nickel) C0 ≈ 16 Hz (Sulfur)

I have a Squier Affinity 5 String J Bass in Black which I bought from Guitar Center when I was in 5th Grade, & that Low B String allowed me to get some lower notes & more range.

What strings are you using to detune the bass are you replacing the strings or using the E string and tuning down what about the tuning nut slot?

I've been doing this same thing for a lot of time. I buy 5 string sets of strings, sell the g string, use the others. Check the sound here. Not our best gig, but good sound engineering. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ip12g9F1qLavhqM.html

@@benchinho since he's tuning to A, you probably want to start at around .130 which is usually a medium/heavy gauge

Wich string should you use for this. High tension I guess ? I’ll try some day, the problem I see is that with only 34’’ scale is gonna be really buzzy. I think.

Just string your 4-string bass with the four lower strings from a 5-string set and tune them down one note, they're not that floppy

An Octave Pedal Might Work & Magma makes Strings designed for Low A Standard Tuning for Bass Guitar you can get. I do have a 5 String Bass from Fender.

Or even better you can get a Fender 5 String Electric Bass Guitar cause it has more notes you can play.

Get a set of strings for 5-string bass and use the four fat ones. Tune to either B E A D or A D G C.

Everyone is doing their trick. Mine is using a pitch shifter fx a 4th bellow a play the bass like if it was tuned B, E, A, D. I tryed a full octave down on the pitch shifter but a 4th down gives you a better tracking and sound. It's easy if you're trained on a 5 string cause when you hit the pedal visually is "the same".

Another thing you could consider that might help you retain range in the upper register is tuning in 5ths instead of 4ths. Personally I'd go no lower the B, and would prefer C, since it'll be more audible, ESPECIALLY since most people aren't listening on a device or setup capable of even the roughly 33hz note that is C1, nevermind the 31hz note of B0 or the completely inaudible on 90%+ of systems 27.5hz note of A0. On top of that, if you also play guitar and/or are okay trying to deal with closer string spacing, you could jam 5 strings onto a 4-string neck since you said you preferred the profile and weight of a 4-string neck. Doing that AND tuning in 5ths gives you almost a perfect 4th of extended range *_and that's comparing against a 6-stringed instrument tuned normally,_* nevermind your 4-string.

That's alot easier because Fender 5 String Basses are designed to where the neck width & spacing is comprable to a 4 String Bass, this way it sits comfortably in your hands.
