Jamaica’s newest Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, gets elected despite controversy about his big multi-million dollar house. Turns out he bought other properties as well. Where did he get the money?

Holness is very slick. I don’t trust him. 1. Responding to questions about his magnificent house, he made the clarion call that every poor man must build his castle - build his big house. That’s not the issue. The issue is how did you acquire the funds to do so, & the need to assure the Jamaican public that they were acquired by fair, not foul means, specifically, by not expropriating tax payers money. To suggest that anyone asking those questions is grudgeful & “badmind” is slick and disingenuous. It’s not like we don’t know that untold numbers of politicians, over successive administrations, have milked our treasury, acquired untold wealth, while leaving the country in utter devastation. You noticed when the lady pressed him on the taxes issue, he walked away? Do you know what he did shortly after this interview? He went to court and got an injunction barring TVJ from doing any further investigation into his financial status. Is TVJ bad mind? And do you still trust him?

Sigh the man is a outright criminal look at his attempt the other day to hide politicians misdeeds for a entire lifetime. But know this the Jamaican citizens will overlook all these things and when he utters his catchphrase of prosperity they blow the horns in jubilation. Remember Andrew is CIAaga protogae. Ones catchphrase is deliverance and the other is prosperity.

@james bay we share a difference in views this video have exposed a very shady side of Holness this you overlook every politician have to do a few what seems to be a good thing to conceal what the real agenda is. Most politicians on both sides of the Jamaica parties are known to have affiliation with Don's. That is why no party has really been able to control crime.
@kimrock34725 жыл бұрын
@james bay your still missing the point you call it a legal loophole now if that's the case why not grant families who are struggling to pay land tax a loophole? You can think of it for yourself but not for the country you should be helping secondly he has had outstanding taxes on all properties also all politicians know the main Don's and their doings but due to the close affiliation with the Don's and the dirty work these men do for them they turn a blind eye until they have no use for him. Both PNP and jlp are guilty of this. This is why Jim brown was burnt alive he became a liability to the JLP because of the information he knew about members of the JLP so Dudus wanted his trial in the USA because he feared he would have the same faith because again of the information he knew. So I don't get caught up with these politicians and there camouflage so called deeds of kindness they do the bear minimum to secure loyalty and votes while we the average citizens are being terrorised by criminals and can bearly survive because jobs are limited.

This is a first-world problem. Let me briefly explain. In the USA, many politicians advocate for tax laws that equitable and just that are intended to apply neutrally. However, the same politicians carve out pieces of legislation that protect them and their friends' investments and holdings. You'd never know because the protective language is mired in legalese while the part of the statute to benefit the public is easier discerned. Without the benefit of a free press, stories like these would go without notice. In actuality, it is all legal but maybe not equitable. Unless a law or laws are being broken, things such as these are difficult to challenge in a court of law, but possibly a court of equity is the proper forum. Nonetheless, even if such a legal action were to get to that level, it could be subject to dismissal. Therefore, there may not be any proper recourse in the courts. Hence, voting to remove politicians is the only way until they distract with rhetoric causing an endless merry-go-round.

I believe Zara Burton, as beautiful as she is, is not reporting on anything tangible here, she should be ashamed of herself. I'm in the financial industries, and I have to be trained and licensed by the state (Government) on how to help citizen with Inheritance Tax Planning. If one can legally planed their tax payment to the Government, with the tools the Government provide to it's citizens, that falls in that category. It is a disgrace for any Journalist to tray and single out anyone, on morals grounds, who take advantage of these tools the current Government provided for any citizen! I use to like watching 18 Degrees North however, I won't be watching this program anymore. This reporting is totally Political, and I don't like when Journalist try to take us for fools!!!!
@BoogWar015 жыл бұрын
18 degrees North is saying that it is morally and ethically bankrupt for the leader of any nation to demand that taxes be paid while premeditatively avoiding taxes himself. She didn't question it legality, just the premise smacks of hypocrisy. 18 degrees North is also throwing shade on the allegation that the Prime Minister of Jamaica bought multiple properties without mortgages on a salary of $60,000 USD per year when the properties are worth in excess of $750,000 USD. Dat look funny. Questions should be asked. Hence this is great journalism.
