People don't come to Jamaica and stick a flag in the ground and claim the land as theirs. These beachfront properties that are bought become private property. This happens in America too. Public beaches are still all over Jamaica, they just happen to not be in areas designated for tourism. That part is usually omitted. We have a thriving fishing industry. If we didn't have public beaches where do you think the fishermen sail from? BTW my family has owned land and beachfront property for generations. The government can't sell it and we will not be selling it to outside investors. The community may or may not know who owns the land because they are free to come and go as they please.
