Ingredients:
2 small/medium snappers
2 tsps Maggi Allpurpose seasoning
Black Pepper as desired
2 - 3 cloves garlic minced
3 stalks scallion, chopped
3 or more sprigs thyme
1 onion chopped or diced
2 tbsps Green seasoning added off camera
3 tbsps unsalted butter
1 small onion, chopped
1 or 2 medium carrots, sliced
1 more stalk scallion
3 sprigs thyme
1 - 2 cubes diced pumpkin
3 pimento grains (allspice berries)
Grace Fish tea soup mix, sifted and added to taste
Approximately 1 1/2 cup water
1 whole scotchbonnet pepper
8 - 10 okra
Jamaican water crackers

This is not steamed fish. This is basically boiled fish with the sauce. In a steamed fish the water it is not supposed to be in contact with the fish.

If you watch the video you would've heard me mention that 🤣 Trust me sir/madam...I know the difference between poaching, steaming and boiling. 'Steamed Fish' is just the term used in Jamaican food culture for fish cooked this way. Which is why it was referred to as JAMAICAN STYLE STEAMED FISH. Have a good weekend now 😁

I don't really care for steam fish but after watching this video I think I want to make this I never knew you could packet of fish tea and pumpkin I'm definitely trying this way thanks for sharing nuff love 😘😋

This brings back so much memories. But I remember my parents doing this on the bbq grill. They used to season the fish and completely wrap the fish in aluminum foil. Then add it to the highest rack on the BBQ grill. This fish came out so tender nice and

Yeah, exactly 😁 technically not steamed but traditionally it is called steamed fish in Jamaica.

Thanks for the tip on okra. I made this 2 weeks ago but I placed the okra in almost the same time with the carrots etc. It turned out mushy like what you said. Next time I'll try adding it later on in the cooking process.

Cooking Jamaican 🇯🇲 Steamed fish for the first time (used King Fish Slices) using your video and it turned out perfect! Yummy yummy yummy 😋! Even before I served the dish my son said it smelled good. I didn’t use pumpkin and added a little coconut milk. Great video, thanks!

I love this. I ate with boiled yams. But snapper here is expensive. I do it with sea bass but you can't beat a snapper.

Until the flesh is no longer translucent, is more opaque and flakes easily

Love steam fish. My parent are Jamaican, I am first generation in America. and I married a Jamaican. But I hate okra I remember when I was in the market and I said to my husband I don’t like okra, we were talking about steam fish. The look the lady gave me lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I know she wanted to say this American. Lmao 🤣. When you said okra is essential to steam fish I bust out laughing because i know it is but I HATE okra. 🤷🏾‍♀️

The fish is just as tasty without 😃 Traditionally we have Steam fish with Fried Bammy or Fried Festival...other side dish options are Rice and Peas, Boiled Green Bananas, Fried Dumpling

too make this true steam fish, could you add a steam insert to your pot and let the fish lay down on it? Then occasionally base your fish with the sauce while it is steaming?

Yes, technically STEAMED FISH does not sit in liquid however, THIS is Jamaican style 'Steam Fish'. It is referred to as Steamed Fish. In other cuisines or cultures for eg. Oriental cuisine "steam" would refer to something else

Why is it called steamed fish, when it's boiled, or simmered at the least. But something steamed is only touched by the steam of the liquid, and not the actual liquid.

Trust me...I know this...it's just the term used traditionally because the pot is covered to allow steam along with the liquid to help complete the cooking process 😁

I like steam fish in Coconut milk from time to time but traditionally Coconut milk is seldom added to Steam Fish. Definitely a preference
