‪@JamesAcaster‬ really wanted the Spice girls album for Christmas, in fact he really really wanted it! When James discovered that he wouldn't be getting the album for Christmas, he tried to drown himself! Or did he? David Mitchell's team investigate in Would I Lie to You at Christmas! Featuring Lee Mack's Spice Girls puns!
Would I Lie To You is a British comedy panel show hosted by Rob Brydon with team captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack. Teammates must remain poker-faced while revealing personal stories previously known only to their closest confidantes, being put through their paces in a quick-fire lies round, and explaining their real or invented relationship with a mystery studio guest - all with the ultimate aim of discerning the truth from the fiction.

I understand why his dad did this, if you have to have the spice girls music playing in your house, the last thing you want is to hear 2 spice girls songs playing at the same time like some sort of shitty dj has been let loose in your home..

No normal family would ever buy 2 of the same albums in the 90'.. thats the real reason.. so James dad used it as an opportunity to teach his kids a lesson.. Parenting was more about long term happiness in those days, now its all about the short term..

@@AdelaeR Music is healthy and fun. If the whole point of taking them swimming was to avoid a scene, then they could have easily spent that money on a second copy of the cd. If they were going to the pool anyway fine. But if you have money to take the whole family to the pool, you can probably afford 2 cds.

"I think it would be easier to just go out and buy another album." --------parenting is not about what is easiest, sometimes it can be hard and involves a lesson. Also, for some families, a 2nd $15 album can mean the difference between having a turkey on that table at Christmas or not. You can really see the difference in both economic and social strata amongst the participants in this very funny WILTY scene.

Noddy was in a cartoon that featured a character named Big Ears. Lee had made the joke "who's your friend, Big Ears?" in the first round in reference to Noddy and Big Ears. As these improv comedy panel shows have to be heavily edited, the panelists sometimes repeat each others jokes in case the jokes get edited out, like James does at 0:59. The audience responded to James' call-back reference to Lee's joke from the previous round.

I'm thinking it was his version of the medieval tradition of the "trail of treats." Either James would kill himself, or he and his sister would fight and both drown. Less mouths to feed, and not actually murder. or he just thought it would be funny.
