After this was aired, Chris Rea sent Bob Mortimer a picture of himself in the bath with an egg in it. It's in Bob's autobiography.

I want to offer an addition to this - Chris Rea sent Bob Mortimer a "large framed photograph of himself enjoying a bath that contained numerous poached eggs"! - I know because I've just read that exact line in Bob's autobiography (page 260!) and that's what brought me here now! :D

Egg white is basically just protein. So it’s going to be stable at and around body temperature. The average warm bath is also at or around body temperature. So, logically, it’s not going to poach.

I hadn't seen this one in years and I could've sworn it was true. Anything he said other than what was on the card could've effectively been a red herring. Egg whites coagulate at around 60 °C (already nuts for a bath!), but whatever he said is moot because the card talked only about cracking the egg into the bath. It was a charming visual about trying to get the yolk to settle onto his chin, but that's moot because the card talked only about cracking the egg into the bath. And it's Bob MF Mortimer! Of course it's plausible! It's so enjoyably frustrating! 😂🛀🥚♨⚪
