I was 16 when this song came out. I sang it to a girl multiple times a day when it came on the radio. she eventually gave in and went out with me 😂. We are still together to this day. I have since altered the lyrics and sing it often to my wife to this day. James I was at my sisters house in Ibiza and I took a notion one day that I would go to your house and ask you to sing the altered lyrics to say that I got the girl 😂😂😂. Still love all your work to this day. Thanks

I didn’t know James Blunt was such a badass and hilarious when they first started playing this song. Having this context gives the song a satirical edge I never knew it had. The song on the surface sounds super shallow yet has the power to stir real emotion in people. But if you just listen to the lyrics, it’s literally just about a pretty girl he saw one time who seems to already have a boyfriend so nothing ever comes of it.

I swear, this happened to me, in NY...🤔😇👼💜 I was with a co- student, he lived there, I in Missouri, and we met 2 yrs. After we attended an airline school in Miami I swear you look like the guy I saw, but this occurred in apx. 1985 or 1986....of which you were probably just being born!!! Giggle. When I heard this song I loved it. At some point it was on Smallville and I was OBSESSED with Smallville and shipped Lana and Clark obviously. Regardless Lana and Clark had just missed an opportunity to be together or some shit and I was HEARTBROKEN. I for some reason connected the song with my current high school love interest and therefore became one of those girls who believed I was “different” and the love I had with said human was bigger than anything else in this universe. I’m almost 32 now and I reconnected with the original love interest from high school in 2020 and we’ve been together for over a year now. Life is CRAZY. I will always love this song. Jury’s out on if I’ve proved the love was real or if imma huge dunce.
