Choreographed by Bob Anderson (1922 - 2012). This guy gave us some of the greatest sword fights from some the most popular movies. He started on “The Master of Ballentrae” in 1952. He not only gave us THIS sword fight, but the sword fights from “Lord of the Rings”, “Zorro”, “Highlander”, the first “Pirates of the Caribbean” and many others. He was also the man inside the Darth Vader suit for the fights between Vader and Luke. Every time I see a video of one of the sword fights he choreographed, I feel like I need to give him the recognition he deserves. Rant over.

In the novel, Moonraker ... A rich German Nazi is hideously disfigured during the war - he has plastic surgery and reinvents himself as the darling of England ... persuading the government to enact the "Moonraker" program .. which is a demonstration of Britain's nuclear deterent. But the missile's gyroscopes are programmed to hit London, not the North Sea as planned. It's a shame that this movie wasn't more like the Daniel Craig movies running with this storyline. The CGI parasurfing thing was so silly and stupid, even by Roger Moore skiing standards. However - I love this sword fight! And Miranda Frost (I wanted her to win against Jinx!) - so pleased that Rosamund went on to do some great roles (like Gone Girl). So - this movie wasn't a total loss ... and I also came to see what the title song was actually doing. It's tuneless and clubby - but that's perfect for a mantra of holding on to your sanity while you're being tortured every day. So, the song "Die Another Day" has actually improved with age - within the context of the tortured Bond set-up.

Honestly this is one of my favourite sword fights in a movie of all time, the starting chivalry, the wager, the attacks seem realistic, the people confused watching, the build up of weaponry the music score, the final push from Bond at the end on the walkway and the sick finishing blow with the tension at the end stopped by Miranda and the class of both men to agree to lose/accept the handshake. Very well done scene that has me coming back.

The film is a bit of a train-wreck overall, but scenes like this are what kept me coming back to it constantly as a kid, it’s exceptionally choreographed, edited and scored! Just brilliant!

Spinning in combat is a death sentence 9 out of 10 times. You open your back to your opponent and swinging a weapon so fast that you can hardly control it is stupid. Plus you can probably get more speed from using lever action between your two hands compared to just spinning your entire body around.
