I came of age during James Brown's heyday of the late 50s and the 60s. This man defined my generation, his impact in music back then was the best innovative stuff I had ever heard in my life back then. If you're a baby boomer then you'd get it...

I'll tell you what, I grew up with James Brown, & the first time I saw Janelle Monáe perform, "Tightrope" (at the White House for the Obamas), I thought holy cow, she is the female rendition of Brown. She set the stage on fire. She even sent one of her earrings flying into the audience. POTUS Obama told her where it landed after her set was finished. If you haven't seen that particular performance by Janelle Monáe, please watch it. She was jaw-dropping, in the same exact way that James Brown was jaw-dropping. They both have 'IT'.
