In February 1993 an unprecedented crime shocked Britain and reverberated around the world. Denise’s son, two-year-old James Bulger was abducted from a shopping centre in Liverpool and brutally murdered by two 10-year-old boys.
This is the story of one of the most shocking cases in criminal history - of a mother who was thrust in to the spotlight and fought the justice system every step of the way and why after 15 years of bitterness and grief, she wants James’ memory to help others.

I know isn't that so sad! I feel awful for her. She seems to be doing better now. At least she made a memorial and a school for bullied kids. I give her my respect. A child could vanish in a split second especially if mum gets distracted but the boys planning on taking any kid to kill. What a shame. It's rare for ten year olds to kidnap a baby but you know if they were kids then and got new identities then supposedly murdered again? Wtf?? That's crazy they should have been in a mental facility for life. Poor baby James..

. I live in USA we have what's called Adam Alert when a child goes missing from a public place. Adam Walsh was a six-year-old child from Florida who was abducted from a shopping center in the 80s. His murder was never solved. if a child is reported missing or lost in a public place the whole building gets shut down locked up or doors alarmed. Those 10 year old boys at the time they knew what they were doing. They will do it again and again and again I hope they rot in jail forever before they hurt or kill another child

I still remember so vividly this case, living in Canada, my oldest not as old as the two boys who did this, and my youngest just a year or so older than James...my heart exploded with pain for his mother and changed my life ! I mothered differently and I saw the world in a different light - evil had no age anymore ... I have never stopped thinking about that poor little boy and the fear he must have felt...and I can not find it in my heart to forgive the two boys that did this. What stays with me, is how many times they had the chance to give up on the plan to murder James on the way to the tracks ? Yet each and every time someone asked what was wrong? They chose to lie and carry on their evil plan ? That shows intent, it shows no mercy, it shows a pathology of evil, that we only heard of in adults at that time! Much was made of these boys ' poor home life ' - it was no worse than thousands of other kids who would never dream of hurting an innocent baby ? I have no empathy for these two. Often wondered if my child had done this ? Would I feel different about his sentence ? And the answer is no ! I would love my child, regardless, but I would never again trust that I knew my child, and the darkness that obviously lived in him . The 15 years should have been served fully and completely and by then they would still have to be monitored for future behaviour! They took a baby's life ! In the most gruesome way ? At 10 years old - they only get more sophisticated by the time they are young adults ! It's proven over and over again, that people like this do not change - why would we risk them doing something like this again? I know many people won't agree with my position, but this case spurred me on to study criminal minds ever since! This many years later, knowing what I've learned ? I feel even stronger about what I'm expressing here!

@J DR yes 10yrs old is young & they are children, but the detectives made sure to see if they knew fact from fiction & right from wrong; which they did. & fact was they knew right from wrong yet did it anyways, at that point your held responsible for what you did regardless of age! Not to mention a 10yr old commiting murder is crazy, they're so young & capable of commiting murder which is one of the most despicable acts against another human (& in this case it was a toddler who didn't know better, wasn't even half their size & couldn't fight back; think of what baby James was thinking during that time💔) so imagine what they'd be capable of as an adult!

@ J DR Given what those 10 year olds did to James, I wouldn't say it'd be sick to lock them up for life. I don't advocate vigilantism or torturing children to death unlike some on here. If you ask me, I think those who would torture those two as children with no reservations would be no better than them. However, at 10 I knew how serious murder was and that is was wrong. Being honest with myself, at that age I even thought murderers deserved to die for what they did. I haven't met a single 10 year old in my lifetime who would have been capable of anything even remotely close to what those two did. Just some food for thought.

The law says they have to be released and out there is a lynch mob waiting for them to step out of prison (and other than those two boys the people waiting for them have NO sense for the fact that what they would do to them without thinking twice would be WRONG). I've heard about this case so many times. It's awful. I heard Robert Thompson was actually really upset, apologetic and distraught and Jon Venables was completely unrepentant and couldn't care less. Apparently he stayed in the jail system for years and he's still locked up I believe for possessing footage of child abuse. Doesn't surprise me!

I heard that Venables was the one with no remorse too and about his various crimes after his release but the detective here said during their interviews it was Thompson who showed no remorse or emotion. They're both evil to the core I think.

I was talking to my mum about it. She remembers when it happened, it happened just a few minutes from where she lived apparently. She said that Venables seemed to be incredibly manipulative and there was a rumour going round that he had either threatened Thompson or done something else to him to make him help out. This is all speculation of course. Either way both of them are sick.
