When JC talked about keeping himself safe, he reminded me of the way in which professionals who work with sex offenders, especially those that target kids. I'm a probation officer and had to do training to work with SOs and that's how your trained to speak to them, in terms of keeping them safe from children. I understand it's shown to work in terms of making the offender conducive to staying away from children however, I refused to work with these type of offenders in part because as a victim of CSA I can't bring myself to talk to one of these people in this way. But the fact that Charles would use that language and not understand what it says about him is telling. JC needs far more than a few months of counselling to stop his attraction to children, which is an attraction he denied. Remember this is a guy who said that he started target kids because he was desperate, and so moved to more vulnerable people to use. He's minimising and justifying how he's behaved and blaming the victims. I see no evidence of change at all.

As long as KZfaq is making money off of these problematic creators, they continue to protect them and instead try to silence smaller creators that are calling them out. James is deeply selfish, a narcissist, and a bully. He justifies whatever he does because he thinks he's in the right, always. I got a very hostile vibe from him in this most recent video, where it's like he's saying, "Yeah, ok, I did some stuff, but I don't really care, it's everyone else's fault, and I shouldn't actually be blamed for anything." The fact that he's standing there doing his makeup SHOWS how little he truly cares about what he did. If you're genuinely sorry, you're going to make the focus of the video on THAT, not distract from it by doing something else. He's angry that he's being blamed and having to face consequences, because he thinks he's a god who can do no wrong. He's not a good person, period.

@@elliGoesNothin this comment helped me understand both sides better. I really do not doubt that there have been people out there spreading lies to make him look even worse cuz I've actually just seen that happen with Gabbie Hanna, where this tea channel sai Daniel and Joey paid for groceries out of their own pockets because she was making the production money run out in the blink of an eye with her absurd dietary demands. I watched the whole hour-long video Daniel posted and that was not the case. If anyone's willing to twist such a small detail, I wouldn't hold it past anyone to fabricate 20 victims. I actually watched that video cuz I prefer to get the truth for myself and the point he was trying to make was that there have been a lot of lies for the purpose of making him look worse. On top of that, he once again admitted to being careless, and in ways that I've experienced myself (of minors saying they're of age on apps such as Tinder to then drop the bomb that they're actually not of age, an alarmingly common occurence). He didn't make it about him in the way that it's being said all over the place, but more so in the sense that he reflected and talked to his friends and family about all this, so growth has been happening. *ALL THAT SAID,* I can confirm that he tried to deflect the existence of victims. I understand where he comes from when he says that there are no victims in this situation, that all sides are to blame for *something,* but not only did he not bring that up properly (cuz it did look like he was deflecting blame), he forgot that he's a rich white man on the internet, so he should've never brought that up in the first place. That aspect of life itself, the fact that perfect victims aren't as common as we like to pain in such discourse, doesn't really apply to situations like this because this is black and white for everyone watching, especially in so many of these people are hella young (I'm nearing 30). People can only see black and white in these situations, so bringing up nuance doesn't help. He was better off taking full responsability even if it's not true and finding a way to move on that way. This does destract from the very real issue that there are, indeed, minors who go into dating sites (and more adult-oriented ones, even) and try to catfish adults just enough to get them invested that the age drop should make them consider something, anything. There are no adults actively encouraging these minors to do these things, as most of such behavior comes from our society's pressure in finding a partner, losing your virginity before 18, and the notion that being with someone older is better becausse they're more experienced (which, a 22yo doesn't know a lot more than a 17yo, and I say that from experience as someone who, at 17, briefly dated a 22yo). Hanna should know this as a social worker. James Charles shouldn't go unpunished, but it saddens me that we're not talking about how exactly some minors put themselves in these situations and how we can prevent that by, idk... not pressuring anyone into being sexually active as soon as they turn 15, or shaming someone for being 25 and a virgin? People will see this as victim-blaming for sure cuz I'm not saying James Charles should be rotting in prison (that's up to a judge to decide, which I'm kinda shocked that it hasn't happened yet), but read that last paragraph again and tell me I'm saying minors are to blame for the social pressure of finding a partner and being sexually active as a teenager. They're still victims to me, and so are all of us who felt that sort of pressure and who, at an older age, are mocked for not having a hundred one-night stands a week. All this ^ is why this whole situation is complicated and the idea of a victim might be appealing to dismiss for him, and everyone's just ignoring it cuz sure, let's watch the white rich man burn. But then again, this is not the type of conversation anyone can have in public, especially as a public person, even though everything I described happened to so many of us and currently happens to minors.

@@itsagabe yes, it is important to get your facts first-hand, I agree. And it would definitely be naive to assume tea channels and similar ones reporting on this topic are not biased or even trying to rile up their audiences. I personally watched Ready to Glare's video, where she actually showed long (sped-up) clips from the original, with some commentary of hers in between. Hence why I feel safe in refraining from giving him personally the time of day. Thank you for elaborating in such an thorough way, I do understand the points you are bringing across. And although I see that there are shitty people who are actually making up lies for clout to profit from this (btw most of them admitted to it or were caught in their lies pretty quickly), or that there is a different societal pressure on biological men when it comes to sexual activity, his behavior on this matter, and the fact that there are still no legal repercussions, are really not cutting it for me. As Hannah said, he literally only talked about himself. The lack of acknowledgement that there were ANY victims, no matter if it was 2 or 20, shows me that he was literally just trying to save his a*$. And I'm sorry, but for a person as rich and famous as him, it is not even hard to show at least a trace of accountability. What about still leaving the video confessing and elaborating on the allegations up, despite uploading a new one. Be transparent. What about donating to charity explicitly dealing with the exploitation of minors and organizations actively working against that happening. That would've been very convincing evidence for taking accountability. What about refraining from flirting with his audience in the first place? These are, in my opinion, very easy measures that would have painted him in a VERY different light. As a minor, you get put in these situations because you are groomed into them. You think it is your decision and as has been said in multiple videos on this matter (also regarding Zoe Laverne and other groomers on social media), it takes time for the minor to eventually realize that it wasn't really a choice. Trust me, I also speak from personal experience. I think the route of explanation you are taking is a bit too dependent on the fact that "a 16-17 y/o can judge a situation better" than let's say a 13 year old. But that is far from the truth. And it is the victim's choice to come forward about it or not. If the victim says it has realized how damaging this interaction was for them eventually, it does not matter the circumstances why it happened in the first place. And after what has happened to James in the past two years, the fact that it has resulted in THIS.... literally shows that it's all just words coming out of his mouth. Don't feel sorry for someone like this, seriously he had enough chances to not let this happen and, social pressure here or there, other than his victims he IS an adult. And he should learn to freaking behave like one. Just because he is famous and was very well-liked for the most part, does not mean there is no room for him to grow or strive to become the best version of himself. So do not defend him or mask his active decisions as societal pressure when he had the opportunity to set himself apart from these things two years ago! Still thankful for your detailed statement on it, I think open discourse is the key to learn how to navigate these situations mentally and emotionally :-)

Our lives are just too different to be in a healthy romantic relationship I feel. Flirting for fun is okay I guess, but trying to pursue someone like that is weird. Even when i was 18/19, I would crush on older ppl but then realize that despite having similar personalities, the lifestyle of someone 2-3 years older than me is sooo different. I actually believe James didn't do an "expose" video because he couldn't. The evidence against him is clear as day, and any 'receipts' he could have would only incriminate him further. He had to admit to some of the allegations and "take accountability" to avoid the larger issue of his general predatory behavior. His comment could be seen as a veiled threat, but I mostly see it as an admission of guilt in a way.

@@Harry-tt6be What are kids supposed to do when they have no real life experience and don't understand what power imbalances are? There may be a few who understand that relationships between legal adults and minors are inappropriate, but I suspect that most don't understand that because they think most teens are "mature for their age" and capable of being with an adult. I remember being groomed as a teen, and I still felt like the relationship I was in was appropriate and that I was the one with the issue, not the adult grooming me. I don't think we can blame kids for not having the understanding that we adults have. I also don't know how we are supposed to hold fans accountable? Especially fans who are children?

TW: SA/Manipulation (detailed). When influencers say “I could show screenshots to prove my innocence”, it reminds me so much of how I’ve never come forward with information about my abusers because they always told me “you came to me and basically asked me to do this to you”. It reminds me how at my 5-16 years old, I always thought I was the one at fault. It reminds me of how sick I thought (think sometimes) I was for doing what my abusers manipulated me to do. To say “I can prove my innocence because they came to me and asked me for this, or wanted me” is saying “it’s your fault you were manipulated/groomed/taken advantage of, like this”. It’s terrifying how easily these influencers can trick everyone into believing them with the words “screenshots/evidence”. Edit: Please let’s also think about how these kids probably were not in the right head space if they did this. Let’s keep in mind how vulnerable we are at those ages (14-17). How there are A LOT of things we don’t know.

I am still really confused why JC keeps saying that his intention has always been to find love / a boyfriend / a partner. However, it seems his actions have been to sext multiple people using many different platforms. Trying to fill sexual urges constantly, with many people, in a very casual way seems like the opposite intention of trying to find one person to seriously date. His actions do not seem to line up with what he says he wants. He seems to choose to talk to people online based on their looks and turns it sexual quickly without really caring about them as a person. For example, he seemed not to care about personal factors such as their age. It is very superficial, self-centered, and potentially dangerous way to interact with others. It is very disingenuous for him to talk about what he was doing as, “looking for love.” And it really downplays his actions when others taking about the situation using words like, “using fans like a dating pool.” He was not dating… he was sexting people… and many were minors… and he did not seem to care about that fact.
