They are from Cleveland, Ohio. And they get back together now and then to play short tours (when Joe is not doing his Eagles thing, or solo work). For his solo work you will like Rocky Mountain Way (Joe is one of the best slide players around) and also Life's been Good (to me so far)" which shows off Joe's really great sense of humor (his interviews are a treat). Enjoy!

When the James Gang toured with the Who during the time of this song, as a gesture of gratitude, Joe Walsh gifted Pete Townshend a 1959 Gretsch 6120 with a Fender Bassman amp. Pete had been using Gibson SGs but Gibson changed the design of them and Pete didn't care for the way the new models sounded, and he was struggling to find the tone he wanted. This new Gretsch guitar and Fender amp combo blew Pete away. He says it was and is the loudest guitar he'd ever owned or will own. It become the foundation of the Who's sound for all of Who's Next and Quadrophenia. So thanks Joe Walsh for being integral to some great Who music in the 70s!!!!

This Jam is immediately imprinted on your brain when you hear it. The remarkable guitaring Joe Walsh is attributable to this and can and will almost defiantly make you feel the energy. Add the guitars to the bass, and the screaming hot lyrics and vocals, and you find yourself lost in the Rock & Roll Funk that was the 70s. Great pick, as always, guys. You should give their song "Walk Away" & "Woman" a listen.

Joe Walsh, the guitarist, also is responsible for Jimmy Page’s No 1 guitar. Joe had the 1959 Gibson Les Paul originally, and had some work done on it in a shop in Chicago. He didn’t like it and convinced Jimmy to buy it from him for $500.00. He used it when they recorded the second album. He always refers to it as his No 1. As to the reaction, I’ve always loved James Gang, and I even saw Joe Walsh live during his solo career. He is one of my favorite guitarists.

It's only three guys playing - drums, bass, and guitar. I believe I heard Joe Walsh say in an interview once that he left the James Gang because he was tired of playing both lead and rhythm guitar AND singing lead, all at the same time.

You'll be interested to know that it was lead singer and guitarist Joe Walsh who convinced Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin to use a Gibson Les Paul guitar instead of a Telecaster. He insisted Page purchase his Les Paul and that became his favorite guitar to use in the studio and live.

I love Joe Walsh's guitar riffs. James Gang was an American rock band formed in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1966. The band went through a variety of line-up changes until they recorded their debut album as a power trio consisting of Joe Walsh, Tom Kriss, and Jim Fox. Dale Peters replaced Kriss on bass for the band's second and third album. As much as I love Funk #49.... their song "Walk Away" was their biggest hit.

I went to see Jimi Hendrix in Memphis in June of 1970. The James Gang, a band I never heard of previously, opened the show. Unfortunately, Jimi was in bad shape that night, apparently severely high and/or drunk. He was at least an hour late and played for less than an hour. Sadly he would overdose and die three months later. The James Gang gave a great performance playing songs from this album, and I became a fan, buying the album the following week. "The Bomber" is a great song on the album.

One of the great things about music from the 60s and 70s is that colour was irrelevant. It was all about the music and that was all that mattered. Rock 'n' Roll wasn't just music. It was social change. ♥

Joe made 3 or 4 solo albums between James Gang and The Eagles that were all outstanding. Only 3 members of the band, which is why Joe went out on his own, because he felt the pressure to do all the guitar work on his own. I personally think he gave the Eagles the edge they needed after 3 or 4 albums.

Fun fact; Joe Walsh sold Jimmy Page one of two Les Paul guitars he had. Jimmy couldn't find any in the UK and handed it over to Jimmy as they had met when he was in this (his) band and liked each other. Jimmy played that Les Paul on many, many Zeppelin hits. Joe (American BTW) went onto a solo career and Eagles best Albums.
