A little too much John Lee Hooker for at least one person. The publisher and copyright holder of the John Lee Hooker song "Boogie Chillen'" sued but lost. This case led to some changes in American copyright law, and ZZ Top settled out of court. The details are on the Wikipedia page for "Boogie Chillen'."

I have been fortunate to have seen “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” Live 4 times. I recorded the last show (Full HD) before Dusty passed away. Always an awesome show. You must see many other tunes from them including “Rough Boy” (official video)…. “Same three guys, same three cords, for five decades” - Billy Gibbons at last show.

Me too. I remember seeing them on stage singing while spinning their guitars in synch and then a big puff of smoke and they disappeared from stage in the middle of the song. About 10 seconds later the auditorium doors 50 yards from the stage behind us swung open and they walked through the doors playing their guitars walking down the isle back toward the stage. It was frickin amazing. Never forgot that epic mind trick and I attended that concert many years ago during the 80’s in Hollywood, Florida. ✌️

I was fortunate enough to spend time in Central Texas at Fort Hood after my time in Vietnam. I had a buddy who invited me down to Houston to meet his family and enjoy the music scene. It was 1971. Wow! ZZTop! Wow!! That was a show in a very small venue. Great music. Great people. Texas! Houston! So real and so much fun! Great time for great music!! Thanks for the ride back in time!

Jimmy Hendrix said during an interview on the "Dick Cavett Show" answering to the question of how it felt like to be the greatest guitar player in the world, "I don't know, you'll have to ask Billy Gibbons!" He and Billy were good friends after the pre-ZZ Top band of the same members opened for him at a gig. The Band, "The Warlocks'", did not have enough material to fill their time. So, they filled their close with two of Hendrix's songs. He told them they had "Ball's" and the rest is history.

Speaking of 3 man bands, I'm hoping you guys get to the classic Jimi Hendrix Experience LPs like Are You Experienced and Axis Bold As Love. Electric Ladyland, Cry of Love, Band of Gypsys and the various live albums and comps are amazing too but start at the beginning as they sound like no other band from that time. After 55 years they're still exciting and sound incredibly fresh.

A fresh channel you have here guys, I love how you break things down. You hit the nail on the head when you commented on ZZ Top's comedic lyrics. It seems they do like to have a li'l fun with their music. I read some years ago Gillette offered Billy and Dusty a million $ to shave their beards off. They turned it down and said something like, 'you folks wouldn't like what's underneath'. Albums, Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres, Deguello and Tejas is where the band are at their best.

I’m no music expert, but that groove is almost assuredly a blues riff that has been used by many rock and blues musicians for quite sometime. Rock n roll wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the blues. It would be interesting to see if anyone could find the originator of that riff. My favorite ZZ TOP song for sure.

I was at the 1974 Labor Day Weekend concert at the University of Texas’, Memorial Stadium. Billed as “The Rompin' Stompin' Texas Size Barn Dance and Barbecue” was hosted by Texas trio ZZ Top, with a lineup that included Santana, Bad Company, Joe Cocker and Jimmy Page - and 80,000 sweaty fans. Was the last concert held in that stadium, it got trashed. What a show, the beards were still short, rhinestones on their attire, longhorn, rattlesnakes… Texas baby and we’re loud and proud.
