Shouldn't there be some sort of flashing or something where the roof meets the wall?
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair2 жыл бұрын
There is. It’s step flashing. It is Black

Did you see how steep that roof is

Our Hardie board is crumbling above our porch and anywhere near the ground. We get an average of 4 feet every time it snows, and 200+ inches of snow per year. I’m wondering if Hardie just isn’t good for northern climates.

Hardy board unless it’s prepped properly inside out and edges. It’s definitely not going to be good for that area. I would say if you painted all sides with oil base paint two coats, you wouldn’t have that problem.

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair I thought in the Hardie manual it says it shouldn't be in standing water, or 4 ft of snow. It does recommend to paint cut edges with their special Hardie paint but not where the bottom will be in snow all winter and to use oil base paints. Plus does that mean repainting is required in a few years?

Should be up 2 inches

Looks great buddy you did great job 👍 but only thing I didn’t see you using was level lol 😂
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair2 жыл бұрын
We didn’t have to use the level we went by the old lines on the roof yeah. We put it up the exact same way it came back no level need it if you look on the wall you’ll see all the lines that’s all we had to go buy

The main reason as to why Hardie board fails on roof line. When the siders cut the angles they leave the cut unpainted. Each one of the pieces should have been primed on the bottom fully and painted.

I agree 100 percent. We painted with oil paint

I did not see the quality of your work - short nails. and where do you put them? in insulation?

We are pre-drilling the hardy board and that is where we nail it with hardy board siding nails 9:43
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Жыл бұрын
We nail them into the wall studs pre-drill first so we don’t crack the hardy board

Why are you face nailing for zero reason? 1/4 isn’t enough. I have a 15 year old dormer that the water has still wicked up and damaged siding and it crumbled. I added 6” hardie trim 1”’ off room.
