Been watching Jeopardy since the 80s. Every time someone would hit a daily double I would scream at the TV, bet it all, explaining to my wife that the players start out with nothing, so why not? Then, along comes James Holzhauer, and made the show 10 times as interesting. Thank you, James!

In a tournament like this it makes sense to bet it all on most daily doubles. But in regular game play gotta factor in confidence in category and how match is going

The man is dynamite. He'll be back for next year's competition(along with Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach) so maybe he'll make it 2 for 2. I watched his entire run on regular Jeopardy! and really enjoyed watching him steamroll his opponents. 😁 I'd never seen anyone play like him. Everyone really thought he was going to break Ken Jennings' record for most money won on regular Jeopardy! and he was SO CLOSE! He was only $59K away! I think why he lost when he did was because he was a little distracted about Alex Trebek's cancer diagnosis and that threw his game off a little. I think his final game was the first game they taped after Alex revealed his cancer to the world because that day James was wearing a cancer pin and gave Alex a get well card that his 4 year old daughter made for him. He wasn't his usual steamrolling self that day. Remember the games are taped weeks/months in advance.

@@bobbyheenan4061 No kidding! During his run on regular Jeopardy!, the ratings skyrocketed! People who normally don't watch Jeopardy! started watching it everyday. Heck, people were even watching it in bars! Alex did say that players like James really do boost ratings.

Welcome to the life of a gambler. The biggest reason people don't strike it big, is because they're not willing to lose it all. Gamblers don't have that risk assessment, they're willing to lose it all, so they can go all in without a second thought.

He doesn't just happen to know it. He studies trivia as part of his life to become better and win these kinds of things. He obviously loved reading growing up, and had a photographic memory, but he's pushed it a whole new level by studying trivia, and even material he hates to try to win these trivia games. In fact, all the jeopardy masters players do that. This isn't just knowledge he and them happen to know, at least not for the most part. It's absolutely insane though, the amount of knowledge he has. He literally knows almost everything lol.

I think James is better, but Ken did beat him fair and square. Ken is not quite as good as James, but he's very close and is definitely good enough to beat him when things go his way, which is why he did. There is so much luck when the players are that good, so it's easy to lose in that case. Ken just said the other day that he's lucky that things went well in his match with James and Brad, and that he definitely wouldn't want to be playing James again. Ken has that title of the GOAT tournament, and he's not going to mess that up messing with James again. James is slightly better but he didn't lose on purpose. How could you assume that?

@@billj4525 I like James’ swashbuckling style better, but Ken killed him in the GOAT tournament. Ken answered twice as many questions as James. And Ken was 15 years removed, James only 1 year. I was rooting hard for James, but Ken cleaned his clock, it was not close.
