I remember watching this episode when it first aired, he was amazing! I was surprised that a guy who gambles for a living could know so much and take down the beast! I did think to myself, "This guy should be on Jeopardy!" And 5 years later, HE IS!

I would like to see a legendary battle of spit facts between Vsauce and this guy.

I remember watching his run on Jeopardy with my dad and thinking he looked familiar. Then GSN reran this episode and I went "I _knew_ it!" Even with his performance here in mind, neither I nor my dad expected him to be as good on Jeopardy as he was. Also, the people who complained about all of his trash-talking to Ken and Brad during the GOAT obviously never saw this. He smack-talked the Beast before the Chase round against the Beast and already proved in the Cash Builder that he can back his talk up. Of course, during the GOAT on Jeopardy, he only served to be the wrench that helped Ken beat Brad, but here, he got 12 out of 14 in the Cash Builder and answered many of the questions before Brooke even finished reading them. He also carried his team in the Final Chase almost entirely by himself (Jeff getting two answers, Jamie getting one). James proved back then that he can back up his smack-talk. It's a shame that the show didn't last long on GSN. Thankfully ABC is bringing it back with Ken, Brad, and James as the Chasers. Hopefully this "take two" will be more successful.

I reckon James knew the 'zygote' question but opted to get it wrong, just to watch the body language of the beast to see how he reacts to knowing that he got it right and James didn't. Notice how in the follow up question he says "I'm confident because I see a look of defeat on his face". I think he is just being 100% honest in that statement rather than for comedic effect, as now he can compare the body language of the beast: he has seen him react to him knowing he has the right answer and knowing James does (question 1), react to not knowing the answer fully (question 2) and then obviously question 3 which he got wrong. Also saw how he reacted to his out of the blue "they may call you the beast but you look like an underdog to me", this may not be a direct reference for him when it comes to questions, but he would of seen him react firstly to shock and secondly just to any negative emotion (anger, sadness, embarrassment etc.) which came with James' attempt to belittle the beast. All those emotions could be associated with knowing your opponent has the right answer and could be somewhat reversed engineered to predict how they react to knowing they have the wrong answer. He only makes the statement of seeing the defeat in his face after those 4 events which would allow him to confidently make conclusions based off seeing the beast react more than once to a similar thing. I knew the answer was the zygote and I'm far from an intellectual and failed many other questions that he seemed to breeze. I could be totally wrong (maybe he just didn't know) but this man is a genius of strategy and statistics, his whole career revolves around that and sussing out your opponent is like strategy101, plus statistical probability (and being a gambler) of the beast reacting in a similar fashion to a similar emotion/situation would give him confidence in his assumptions. He is very clever and concise with what he says if you've seen his interviews, one example that stood out to me was when asked for topics he wouldn't like to come up on Jeopardy he instead replied with things he actually would like to see and in the process made his answer both humble and humorous (referring to himself as low cultured and referencing bizarre "childish" things). Not only does this answer not give any indication to his weak points (which obviously would be poor strategy as who knows, maybe the game show writers see the interview), he also maintains popularity whilst avoiding a question which is hard to do (just ask any politician) and giving the answer to the total opposite of the question asked will make it feel like he didn't even avoid the question in the first place. I could easily be over analysing but clearly this dudes brain functions more efficiently than most and if anyone were able to be cool headed/smart enough to think through a response in that detail then I'd put my money on the mathematical gambling pro. Just to clarify I'm seeing this purely from a point of admiration of strategic thinking and not trying to make out he isn't actually nice/humble/funny, I believe he is all of those things more than I believe my own conspiracies on his actions detailed above. A great role model regardless and he truly deserves his success.
