A transcription of the charming aria from the “hunting” cantata, Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd, BWV 208, by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), composed in 1713 when he was working in Weimar. The Solo flutes are used for the recorder lines in the ritornello, and the voice is represented in the Swell 16' Contra Fagotto, played and octave higher.
Performed live in concert in March 2022 by James Kennerley, Municipal Organist for the City of Portland, Maine. Played on the mighty Kotzschmar Memorial Organ at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, first built in 1912 by Austin, enlarged in 1928, and most recently renovated by Foley-Baker in 2012-14.
