Loving this new "James Vs ____" concept, where you can be a little bit more of a casual viewer while setting aside the *filmmaker* lens to a degree. You're channel name is "James Vs Cinema," so having more video titles like this can really help the brand!

2007-2010 was an incredible streak for Pixar. They did RATATOUILLE, WALL-E, UP, and TOY STORY 3 all in consecutive years (all of them won Animated Film Oscars too). These (along with RANGO's Animated Film Oscar win in 2011) is probably one of my all-time favorite 5-year win streaks in any category at the Oscars.

I LOVE the way this movie handles grief. It's hard to move on, but the people we've lost wouldn't want us to stay frozen in grief and give up on everything. "Thank you for this adventure, now go have a new one" always breaks me 😭

The first scene that really blew my mind as a child was the eagle flight scene in The Rescuers Down Under. I would use the frame-by-frame button on the vcr remote to see every frame of how they did it. I loved those Disney vhs tapes with rough drawing animatic trailers for the upcoming movies. The pencil work had so much richness in the animation.

Love the honesty you show in the first few minutes of the vid, James. Been subbed since 2020, found your channel through my love of film and have been an admirer since as I’m just all about movies, photography and art. Keep grinding and keep trying new things, this was a great vid to watch. This movie came out when I was seven, I must’ve seen it about that time although it wasn’t in the theaters. I can hardly remember life without Up, haha that’s how it is with a lot of movies for me. This one still gets me emotional today. The movie makes me think of that time when I was young, different houses and the radio playing in the car, ‘09 man… Your journey has been inspiring for years now, thank you 🙏♥️☮️

The first part of this movie is actually inspired by a true story: about 20 years ago, an elderly woman in Seattle named Edith Macefield refused to sell her small century-old farmhouse to developers that were tearing down and rebuilding the whole area. Despite being offered $1 million to move, she insisted on staying in the home until she died a few years later, and it is still standing today, albeit surrounded by skyscrapers.

Always brings a tear to my eye. They need to make more movies that tell stories like this. As for our favorite travel places, Turkey and Mexico City. We took a tour that circled the entire country of Turkey in 17 days, then added 4 days to explore southeastern Turkey. Felt completely safe, very welcoming country, very modern and yet the oldest settled place in the world.

The Iron Giant is a movie me and my brother watched so many times we not only memorized the script we started watching it on mute and making up our own dialog, one which iteration focused on the giant's immense desire to find a lip-balm (specifically Chap-Stick) that works on metal lips, pretty sure we used a box fan to emulate a robot voice too. So to put it lightly, I would love to hear your thoughts and analysis of The Iron Giant! P.S. The culmination of my brother and I's story was (spoiler alert) the nuke that was going to kill everyone was the only thing that could be used as lip-balm for an alien robot. I'm in my mid 30's and just the mention of that movie came back so vivid!

Im going to show my age just a bit here, but the first animated movie I saw that made me think, "wow, how beautiful." Was The Huntchback of Notre Dame, not many people these days have seen it, and most that have saw it as a child. It hits completely different as an adult, animation and story wise. The first thing most people think is, "wow, Disney, you made this for kids?!" But, it will always be my favorite Disney movie, you can just see the work and dedication that was put into that film, from the heart wrenching story, to the animation, and the music. If you haven't seen it, you should.

The child actor you threw shade at is named Jordan Nagai. This was literally his 1st role out of the handful of voice gigs he got in his brief acting stint. The director, Pete Docter, described Nagai as very talkative but also very nervous during recording sessions. Out of 400 auditionees his voice was the one that fit, so Docter coached him through it with the patience a good director should have. Because you asked: for me it was seeing Treasure Planet when it was in theaters, gobsmacked at how they could paint such an immersive picture. Ironically this was what Disney execs *pretended* was the straw that broke their backs in supporting hand-drawn animation. (I'll spare you the tin-foil-hat rant on the subject.) Pixar does a lot of Star Wars references. The company started as a branch of Lucasfilm, until George Lucas sold it to Steve Jobs.

I like this new series of yours. I hope to see more episodes in the future. 7:20 Fantasy wise, I would love to travel to the fantasy world of Harmony. It has alien tech and ruins with paranormal talents galore. Plus, adorable creatures that are known as dust bunnies. (Picture a very miniature flying bison from AtlA that have a physic powered second set of eyes minus being able to fly and that's a dust bunny.) Reality wise, several places tbh, but first London over in the UK. So I can reunite with my best friend then to visit Baker Street and all the museums and everything. 11:10 The Great Mouse Detective. Some of its artwork just blew me away as a child. (I was like two when I first saw it on TV.) The artists captured that late Victorian atmosphere so perfectly. 14:04 You are probably right that there is some video arguing that view. I've seen some crazy cartoon theories out there. 28:09 I saw it around 2009/10 with my mom. It was within a year of my dad's passing, so it hit both of us hard yet it also greatly encouraged my mother and me to go do more adventures for adventure is out there.

You asked where we wanted to go or where our favorite place to go is. I was just online with some of our people in Syria. If it ever becomes possible to go there, I was to go spend time with them. I've been to Venezuela, but haven't been to Angel Falls, what this place is based on. You used to be able to go and get a visa upon entry. Then they started making us go to the Venezuelan Consulate to apply for visas. Each year there was more and more requirements to get a visa. Then they finally denied our visa and we weren't able to go back. Many Venezuelans were leaving Venezuela and we've helped some to immigrate to the US. So I love Venezuela. I'll be in London for the fourth time in a couple of months. Since I was deployed there, Saudi Arabia holds a special place for me. I was just there last year. India is an immensely fascinating place. My wife and I love to vacation in the Virgin Islands. My favorite place so far to visit has been Lebanon. It's so sad the strife there, but someday I hope to go back. I do want to visit the archaeological sites in Israel, Jordan, and Egypt someday.

Fiji. I've been to a few places in Europe, enjoyed all of them. but the allure of an island nation on the opposite end of the earth is what make the explorer in me excited. Love all the content James, would love to find a casting notice I could fill if you have a new project!

You should watch Demolition Man! One of my all time favorite movies... well it's more of a prophecy really. Wesley Snipes plays one of the greatest action villains of all time in that one!

I cant remember exactly which one I saw first but the first animated film I saw as a kid and was in awe of the animation was either Antz or the first Toy Story.

I've come up with a sudden theory! Russel's dad wasn't as the ceremony because he's in a search party tracking the GPS Russel accidentally dropped at the beginning of the movie. Russel's parents, or maybe just dad (like seriously what about mom?), seem to be fairly well off overall. Just the design of the GPS makes me believe the time-frame of events is happening sometime from the mid 1980's to late 1990's, because a large unidentified object just simply would not fly (no pun intended) during the cold war or after 9-11. A beyond thrown to the wind theory, we don't know anything except Carl and Ellie met when they were kids, and maybe everyone who died, died; Carl outlived everyone he knew, so what about Ellie's family? Like no extended family? No friends? I think Russel might be related to Ellie

The SECRET OF NIMH was probably the first animation that I thought had remarkable elements.

YES! This format is great. I don’t know what film it was that I first saw and thought looked incredible but it for sure was not Toy Story lmao. I brought this home from the store and my then fiancé and I watched it together. Had to take a 30 min break after the ‘we can’t have kids’ section bc I had recently been diagnosed with PCOS and didn’t think we’d ever have kids. This movie made me so sad and then made me laugh, and as Truvy says in Steel Magnolias “laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.” Pixar never missed. I’m really sad they got bought out by Disney but that’s a whole other conversation.

Just to clarify, Pogo aka Christopher "Nick" Bertke never worked for Disney, didn't make any music for this movie (all of Up's music was composed by Michael Giacchino except the last 3 which were made by Skywalker Sound) and has a "controversial" history with topics such as feminism, and the gay community, among other things

While watching the movie, i understood the old man's stand off ways, but if his wife were alive she'd grab him by the ear and have him rescue the boy and the bird. My wife was right too, I said im not going to cry at the beginning of this...😢dammit lmao
