The moment Arteta stopped trusting ESR was against Newcastle in February when he was running back covering Willock but stopped on the edge of the box allowing Willock to keep going and end up scoring. Maybe he thought he was passing him on to one of the defenders but he should have recognised the danger. I genuinely think Mikel loves him as a person and a player and wishes ESR could fit in the team but he knows ESR just can't do what is required with the way we set up. Mikel has to be ruthless for the good of the team and the club- and I bet you the other players understand why ESR will likely be on his way. It is such a shame, ESR virtually saved Mikel's job, but this is football- only us fans can get emotional, not the Manager or staff. If he does go to Fulham I really hope he will be injury free and become a legend for them.

The keeper is being signed for there to be a balance in goalkeeper training drills. Mancity have a 37 year old or 40 something year old keeper who they keep extending his contract but he has never played a match. Some goal-keeping drills are done in pairs so there have to be an even number of keepers! It's all about training balance!

I still believe that if ESR is left further and given opportunity is given him to play week in week out, he will improve, and his potential will shine out. He is a good player who wants to play. He has Arsenal DNA and can develop to Arsenal's current level of playing.

Unfortunately as much as I love smith Rowe I think we need to move on and maximise the value from the player now as we can’t just hold onto him if we are not going to play him, it’s a shame as I think he still has a lot to offer for someone in the premier league

What if smith rowe proves it in the preseason. If he wants to I think he can be incredible. It's up to him. He is honestly great when he is fit. He has a unique skillset which if we dont get a goal scorer then he can make the difference. Will truat arteta always buy Eddie and reiss are redundant

Great show James and the very best wishes! I have to say that I find the argument from the other members, that Smith Rowe saved Arteta's job to be ridiculously stupid. ESRs job was to play and score which is exactly what he did. You can argue that, it might have saved Arteta's job but Arteta was bought in for a rebuild and weather or not he would have kept his job had ESR not scored 10 goals is a topic for a debate. In my opinion he would have been here regardless as his appointment was purely on a long term vision and not short term success. Even Josh Kroenke made it clear that they would have backed him regardless of the outcome. I think ESR does not suit Arsenal anymore as we have evolved leaps and bounds without him, his inability to stay fit and not convincing enough when give that rare chance. It would benefit both parties if he is to leave.

ESR is at a point in his career he need regular playing time. At Fulham he has a great opportunity for that. Probably gets a wage increase as well. Also he gets to stay in his house in London. Not a bad move for him.

Still not sure on this decision. If we were desperate for the money to raise funds i would understand. But we have funds from champions league and finishing 2nd. The one game i remmeber him starting this season he got motm. I feel we will regret selling him. Id rather sell him for less with a buy back clause if we have to sell him.

Ridiculous if smith rowe leaves. He's also the perfect replacement for trossard. Trossard will probably have his last season at arsenal. Smith rowe has been at the club for 14 years and hes only 23 years old. Injuries shouldnt be a concern yet.

Sterngratz are breaking their transfer budget to sign Biereth lol. I know it sounds crazy at £4M, but that actually represents a hige signing in their league. I think the loan system is improving and becoming elite, but the academy is something different and still needs work.

Id give him another season given that noone has really yet grabbed the left 8 spot and made it theirs. Rice may play there in majority but far from all games, especially against low blocks and when we're behind. Let ESR, Vieira, and Zini fight for that spot. Although this is one where we have to trust Arteta. Smith Rowe is great on the ball, can get into goalscoring positions, but he is more of a put your head down and run / play a good final ball kind of player, rather than the intelligent playmaker we need. The ideal profile is a Bernardo Silva, and while its impossible to find another, there is definitely talent out there that can be moulded into one. Currently in our squad, Zini is best equipped, followed by Vieira and then ESR.

All this talk of the academy is a little crazy. We had 3-4 academy players in our first team squad this past season. The issue is the next crop behind Saka and ESR just weren’t good enough. But Nwaneri, Chido, and a few others have a chance. I’d love to know a team in the top 4 that just produces academy products that actually get to their first team. City has Foden and Bobb, United have Mainoo, Liverpool have Elliott, Quansah, Joe Gomez, and that fullback. So it seems Arsenal are right on track with them with the 3-4 number. If we’re being honest Madrid and Bayern maybe had 1-2 prospects that made the first team in the last 10 years. We just got to be more decisive with selling these kids

And if you are selling him send him on loan. Get his value up. He is 23 years old. Talented as fuck. Was our highest goal scorera few years back. He should be worth 60m minimum

Usually like this pod but completely disagree on the ESR discourse. Currently we have no carrying profile at 8, that allows us to play more effectively against midblocks which we got killed by (Porto, Fulham, Villa x2). We have also decided to platform Ø at the detriment of our best attacker (Saka). Saka is 40 g/a player season in and out and ESR under and overlapping can provide him with runners along side Ben and allow him to thrive inside. ESR is also the only midfielder we have (maybe Fabio) who has no angle bias and is essentially both footed whilst also having elite final 3rd movement. The simple fact is we haven’t platformed him and I believe Mikel has realised this. His is an extremely rare profile and hope we keep him. Also on the off the ball stuff. If we’re being honest you make most of your money as an attacker what you do offensively. If your best attribute is something most people can get better at (pressing in the case of Ø) that ain’t enough to be platformed over someone else. Mikel has to be braver in this regard for me and look at on ball presence a bit more than off ball. We will be elite defensively can win titles being a great defensive team and elite offensive team and not vice versa imo

I disagree that ESR can't play left 8 but I do agree that in the light of Arteta's view of him as a low ranking squad player (and I'm not saying Arteta is wrong) he should go out there and play football and get a real chance to show the world who he is.

I understand it's the rational decision to get what we can for ESR, but I just have this feeling he'll be important in the upcoming season.

The academy costs money from a business point of view it must sustain its self so players must have a market value ...also I believe academy players must win their matches you got to build an academy wining team and keep them together for at least 3 winning seasons than you can bring the players up winners...

Charoi your wrong about omari he was excellent in championship and earned a move to new premier team Ipswich Chelsea will pocket+20m on that deal

Just selling Cozier Duberry and other academy players in itself isn’t the issue. The issue is SIX debuts given in nearly FIVE years for Arteta. Bringing through young players is in our heritage, Arteta isn’t respecting that.

Laura is 100% correct, Saka scuffed his penalty. It’s doesn’t change a thing, coz he scored. Saka is intelligent, humble and mature beyond his years and that’s because of his family, mentors and friends.

See I wouldnt give ESR another season but I would loan him instead of selling him. Call me deluded, call me naive, I dont think we’ve “moved past him”. I think he has the most potential out of anyone in our squad bar odegaard. And he just needs someone to unlock that and get him playing his football. And I think a loan away would really help him. But Arteta won’t do that. Look at how much Arteta gave to Havertz, and how much he perused and persisted with him, he just dosnt want to give ESR that chance.
