I'm 16 minutes in and ive choked back tears twice. I don't quite think anybody can understand what this generation have gone through. Mr. Showers is ahead of me as I'm born '77 and ive been in similar situations as he described early on. My dad went through this in the 60's in England and cuts him til this day. Strangely even the youngster's can't comprehend, black or white. As a 50 year old mixed race man Mr.Showers i understand. Even the "Mainstreaming of the N word" which is more an American thing disturbs me. When im out and about in public and hear this word in popular music my stomach turns. Salute to you Mr Showers God Bless you 🙏

I was 16 and, me and a couple of mates decided to move down to Nottingham. We ended up in a place called the Meadows with Afro-Carribeans talking with them listening to Bob Marley from the biggest ghetto blaster I had ever seen. When we got back to our B&B the guy who ran it sat us down at the table and gave us an awakening. He said you went into a black area where they had just killed a white guy in retaliation for a white guy killing a black guy. He pointed out that maybe we didn't understand(which we didn't) that we were wearing red and yellow laces in our Dr Martin boots and had skinheads which were the colours of the National Front. He worked with the Anti-Nazi League and had a couple of black kids. We were into two-tone and ska music and Bob Marley. Many years later I was in Chapeltown in Leeds and my mate from down there told me I was crazy as it was really bad then and the Yardies were having a war and they also didn't like white guys there. I loved it and knew the guys who ran everything in there so was ok. I used to go and drink in Blues houses and there was a notorious pub there called the Hayfield. All different now though.

Wow! The lies he tells about his first wife, (my mother) is absolutely shocking!! Please don't believe a word of what he says. He's a nasty, wife beating bully and my beautiful mother still stuck by him through all of that!! Every single thing he says about her is an utter lie and James just laps it up!! Actually infact, he encourages it!! It makes my blood boil seeing this!! The way he has tried to manipulate the public into believing that my mother is some sort of gold digging cow (in his words) How bloody foul! Nasty, stinking lies! All of it!! If only you all knew the real truth. You'd be sick! I think my mother should also do a podcast don't you think? She can tell you all the real truth... Who Took Us You Ask? My Mother! As For The House Do You Mean The One Seized By Customs? The One That Was In That Much Disrepair It Was Sold At A Major Loss? The One That “The White Man” As You Call Him (My Stepfather) Had To Pay To Secure Just So YOUR Children Could Have A Roof Over Their Heads? Shall I Go On Or Shall I Jump On My Own Podcast Because I’ve Got 39 Years Worth Of “Truths” That Need An Outlet! This Man Is A Complete Narcissist Take Everything With A Pinch Of Salt!

Edit - didnt know he was involved with anyone from huyton! Born and raised in huyton myself! Also id like to point out even back in the day not everyone in liverpool was racist, i never met my grandad he had my dad at 62 he was in the second world war and one of his best mates in the army was black and taught my dad how racism is the most ignorant mindset humans ever created as colour doesnt create character, my family is a mixed family and i couldnt be prouder of that. I can also remember the racist chanting on the terraces of Wolverhampton wanderers has a kid, this is the first time I’ve seen Michael in such an emotional state of mind, he came across quite broken I thought, nearly 30yrs inside, now he’s nearly 80 maybe he’s asking himself were all of those wasted years actually all worth it.

Another powerful interview James, thoroughly enjoyed it.. So glad to see that michael has settled down and is more at peace.. We all make mistakes in life(too many) are quick to judge others without knowing the other person or their upbringing.. Unfortunately for michael the systematic racism that was so ingrained in our culture, especially at that time sent him down the wrong path, at least his testimony can prevent the younger generation from following suit 🙌🔥🙌

Please, tell me you're not saying that you went through hatred for being an Irishman are you...or am I misunderstanding? Because I'm a Scouser and l can tell you that probably 75% + of Liverpool people are of Irish decent/heritage - most of us on both sides of the family...so there's no fucking way anyone is getting bullied in Liverpool for being Irish. Even throughout the decades of the troubles no bombs where ever set off in Liverpool which you would think would be a major target considering we're a major British city...Liverpool has always been known as the capital of Ireland. In other words your comment is total BS...if you're saying you "went thru hatred" in Liverpool for being Irish.

Nice bloke, and I see racism everyday in England. I’m a white male aged 46. I’m gobsmacked nobody talks about the outrageous, blatant racism in today’s society against people like me. How sad it must of been for black men my age in the 70 and 80’s 👍👍

Of course racism is vile . Any normal thinking person knows it’s absolutely terrible but so is bringing drugs into your own community and destroying families . Have you no idea of the destruction caused by drugs to inner city Liverpool in the 80s ?

If i didnt suffer racism i wouldnt have been a drug smuggler that helped ruin countless lives 😂😂👌 He forgot to mention all the phone calls to the Pakistani man lol.........Showers, who was working at the time in Liverpool City Council's immigration unit, denied he was involved, saying he was helping Zubair get entry clearance for his wife. But itemised phone records associated with Showers showed calls to and from Pakistan. And one of the phone numbers in Pakistan was printed on a bus stop right next door to the location of the drugs handler. ......and that was it!! Gone right off this channel, all it seems to be is gangsters and degenerates. Plus comment from JE "just because someone has done bad doesn't make them a bad person" does that include murderer's and sex offenders?

God bless this man. Most people would never have survived what Michael went through. The scars of racism and the difficult early life he was subjected too are still very raw to this gentleman. Even at his age it’s evident that the wounds are still there. In terms of his life of crime and prison no man can judge the bad decisions he’s made especially given the complete picture. If anything one can only have empathy for the road that he took. It’s never too late to change and I hope for Micheal healing and the peace of mind that he was denied as a young man. This is an inspiring, fascinating story that we can all learn something from. I have seen Michael in other interviews but not as relaxed and as open as he is here. James that is down to you and your incredible skills when talking and relating to people. Top class. 🙏❤️.x

The start was interesting to hear. Racism in England has got worse as the millions of migrants have arrived both legally and illegally in the last 20 years. Scotland hasn’t experienced this change so it’s bound to be less racist. Wales is the most racist place I’ve been to though. I don’t remember hearing racism at all in the 90s or early 2000s in England. Only since Blair’s policies took over.

Enyoyed this. Although it does make you think. This guy was known as Liverpool's original gangster, made millions, had a big house and a flash car and after all that ended up serving 20 odd years in prison, ended up working at Sainsbury's and now does his shopping at the Iceland in the Garston area of Liverpool where my mum and sister saw him the other week. Just shows you that living that sort of life only lasts a short amount of time before it eventually catches up with you. Being mixed race and from Liverpool myself, It's almost unthinkable to think that in his day it was so bad in terms of how racist it was. I grew up in a predominately white area and although have experienced racism myself here and there although nothing major, I can't imagine what black people of his generation must have gone though.

My mate and his brother had a garage in Liverpool and got leaned on for protection and had a word with Michael about it and these fellas were coming back so Michael went there and when these guys turned up and started talking about the money they owed Michael appears and tells them in no uncertain terms keep away from these lads or else .
