Few films about degeneracy and addiction can induce palm sweating like this one does. It’s so effective in its unpleasantness; Kubrick’s Lolita has the same effect; but sticks with you for days.

One of the best films of the century so far and it's a relatively small list. I put it alongside such greats as The Assassination of Jesse James, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood and Zodiac. What Pitt said is true, it feels alive. Amazing performance by a man I'd really love to hate, but Sandler has the capacity in him.

Literally all Hollywood studio movies?!? I would add Tree of Life, Take Shelter, Mulholland Drive for American movies, and then Long Day's Journey Into Night, Yi Yi, Spring Summer Fall Winter & Spring, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, In the Mood for Love. As well as deep cuts like Youth Without Youth and Pulse.

@withnail-and-i2 ай бұрын
@@SquabbleBoxHQ says a lot that you and the audience of this Hollywood centric channel see this remark as snobbery, I'm just saying that naming juste those four movies is very limited as to what cinema has offered. It's about embracing the wealth of the medium. Some of the best American movies of the century were made independently, such as The Florida Project, but somehow people miss them, that's what I mean by "Hollywood studio movies", it's conspicuous that your list doesn't have a single selection that deviates from that.
@withnail-and-i2 ай бұрын
You saying that it's a limited list is what ticked me off, you named assassination and left off way more groundbreaking and touching movies according to most, but whatever, I don't question individual taste, just that kind of shallow statement, the list is tenfolds of what you named.

The ending is actually really funny the more you think about it. (Spoilers down below) Ok so he dies in the end, but the door that the mob guys go through is broken and needs like a metal stick to make it work otherwise it stays locked. So his wife calls the police just to go check on them and the mob guys who killed him are now stuck in that office and definitely don’t know about the metal Rod so they’ll be arrested for what they did.

Uncut Gems is basically a much-improved version of "The Gambler." The Gambler is a decent movie, but in many ways it's extremely lacking. Uncut Gems has better characters, better direction, more exciting, and better atmosphere. The way Menzel's character looks at her husband with pure disgust and probably well-deserved vicious hatred is so difficult to watch. It's brutal. Howard is the biggest piece of shit, but for some reason we want to root for him even though we know we shouldn't.

@mickyfitz292 ай бұрын
The celebrity cameos add to the realism, especially since the film’s climax is based around a bet on an NBA game that actually happened. Working with The Weeknd and Kevin Garnett also makes sense as a natural progression of the Safdie brothers’ interest in casting non-actors. Garnett as an obsessive weirdo who believes a gemstone is a genuine good-luck charm is so believable. Good Time is a great movie too, as is Heaven Knows What.

I agree with Brad. Sandman always brings a certain kindness to all of his films. I think it's a unique skill or trait that was vital to the part because Adam's character was in fact likable but in real life that kind of character is unlikable. I feel as though the writer needed the viewer to like Adam's character to add to the ending. Brilliant movie and I don't even like basketball. The anxiety was so real that, unfortunately, I won't watch it again. I love the more because of that fact.

Every time I hear Brad Pitt talk he sounds so banal. I love a lot of his movies, but he doesn't strike me as a fun or interesting guy to be around. He basically spends two minutes stumbling over himself to communicate the Uncut Gems made him feel anxious, and that the lead character is likeable. Like, no shit dude. Maybe I expect an unfair amount of insight from him for being such a titan of the industry. I so often find actors and directors say something insightful or from a different angle than someone like me could - not being in the industry. But Brad always seems to have the most obvious and dull perspective on anything I hear him talk about. Am I the only one who thinks so? Leo DiCaprio is the only other one who I feel that way about. I always would have thought that to be an amazing actor (which they both are) you would have to have an interesting, insightful, inventive and critical mind, but maybe I'm completely wrong.
@dayargrosario2 ай бұрын
Brad Pitt has said many times that he is not the most articulate about what he wants to say, acting is not necessary about words so i wouldn´t expect an actor to be the best at speaking about a subject... but i actually disagree with him, in interviews he makes some good points, and seems introspective in his thinking, but i have to say he is easier to understand in video because he does a big part of the talking with his hands and facial expressions....But another thing to consider is he seems to portray his characters intuitively by way of getting a feeling of how they are , so i don´t think his knowledge is something that he can put into words even for himself..Also he is not pretentious so you wouldn´t hear him saying how he was researching for a character for months, or how he broke an arm hitting the wall on a scene if things like that had happened...
