In a sneak peek episode of the upcoming ‘Jamie Kern Lima Show’ Jamie sits down with Oprah Winfrey to discuss the new, reimagined film version of The Color Purple. Oprah shares why Alice Walker’s 1982 book The Color Purple resonated with her, how she was cast in the iconic role of Sofia in Steven Spielberg’s 1985 classic movie and why she leads her life with intention. Jamie Kern Lima created IT Cosmetics in her living room with her husband, Paulo, eventually selling the company to L’Oréal for 1.2 billion dollars. The Color Purple film premieres in theaters on Christmas Day.

I cried so hard- I’ve always have loved Oprah and I’ve loved and listen to Jamie and follow her. I watched The old 💜 movie and remember feeling the same as Oprah as a child-that I watched on TV that a child was abused in a movie accept I am caucasian. I am currently letting go - surrendering again revealing another layer of the vails of another life story -Again- and forgiving myself and others in my current situation. As she describes that second we stop resisting and letting go and letting god/universe use me and work through me. Time and time again it’s a journey through each challenging life lesson and figuring out what you need to learn. I love how these women are so open and real about themselves. They help others to be honest and willing to be vulnerable, be supportive and strong. We are truly blessed to have them in our existence. Much Love

Brilliant interview. Thank you for sharing all your memories and insights from making the original Color Purple. That the process of doing the work is the reward. And that as soon as we surrender our ego and expectations and what we want to happen for Gods plan for our lives, then everything that is meant for us will come to us. I love Alfred Woodward yet I couldn’t imagine The Color Purple w/o you. Once I experienced screenwriting for myself, I knew I would do this for free (and I did, and I’m still trying to, but I need food and shelter). I never wanted to go back to a job. I want screenwriting and producing and making television to be my life. This was so affirming. Thank you.

I feel like Oprah was actually quite vulnerable here. I usually feel like she’s nothing but polished. Never fully let’s us see HER. I understand why. But it’s also a real privilege to be let in to her real feelings and the real pathway of her life. I just rewatched the OG Color Purple on TCM and ALSO was struck with the same line as Oprah (in both book and film) that ‘A girl ain’t safe in a room full of mens’. I’ve always seen my story on those pages, too. *I Dk this woman and clearly she’s successful and very very wealthy - but her little-girl, deferential tone and demeanor are quite off-putting. I can’t imagine listening to her podcast.
@ennsma
@ennsma 6 ай бұрын
Agreed. I have never heard Oprah speak at length about the “failure” of Beloved-or more accurately, of her Ego attachment to its success. *Also agree with you about this podcast’s host. Not sure who she is. That little-girl, deferential tone will be hard for her to discard, as it will have been set long ago. Ironically, she conducts this interview by hardly speaking.

Sadly, I have lost all respect for Oprah since the Megan interview. I always thought color was irrelevant to her, in as much as, see people as people and all the colors just come together... Nope, she segregated it, single handly by making the stupid comment.... What! To perceive what was said, in that way, told me... Who the r**** was 😢
