The Hppy Hour With Jamie Ivey: Happy New Year friends! We are so excited for 2024 and all that it holds for us! Several months ago I read a book and immediately knew I wanted to start off 2024 on The Happy Hour with the author. Have you felt like you do a lot for God, and you still feel disconnected? Do you ever feel like you are reading your Bible all the time, and doing all the right things, yet still live in so much fear? Do you find yourself desperate for control? If any of that is you, you are not alone! On today’s show Holy Post Podcast Host and author, Skye Jethani challenges us to stop living our life under, over, from, and for God, and start living life with him!
An award-winning author, speaker, and co-host of the Holy Post Podcast, Skye has written more than a dozen books and served as an editor and executive at Christianity Today for more than a decade. Raised in a religiously and ethnically diverse family, his curiosity about faith led him to study comparative religion before entering seminary and pastoral ministry. With a unique ability to connect Christian thought and contemporary culture, his voice has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and The Washington Post, and he’s spoken to audiences throughout the world as diverse as the U.S. Naval Academy, The Chautauqua Institution, and the Lausanne Movement.
You guys, if you’re anything like me, this conversation may start off with a lot of conviction, but hang in there! There is so much hope in all of this too! Skye reminds us that from the very beginning of time God has shown his people patience and grace while he waits for us to simply come be with him.
Since 2014 when she launched her podcast, The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey, Jamie has been elevating the stories of women and men chasing hard after Jesus. She believes that stories change the world, and that belief has been her motivation as Jamie has fostered a community of listeners who are eager to hear from others with different life experiences or unique perspectives. On The Happy Hour, Jamie and a guest discuss the big things in life, the little things in life, and everything in between. In every podcast episode, listeners are pointed to Jesus, and it’s a joy for Jamie to be the one behind the microphone bringing these stories to life. Jamie lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband Aaron and four children. She loves college football and her newfound love of walking as a spiritual discipline, and she remains committed to trying every new restaurant in her foodie town.

I loved this podcast. I am a regular listener of the Holy Post Podcast and have been for about 7 or 8 years. It has helped keep me sane. I am going to get these books. This explains why I was rebuked some time ago when I told a fellow Christian how much I needed connection with Jesus each day. I am not a new believer. My desperation is for Him, not what He can or will do for me, and this statement upset this woman. I did not understand her reaction until just a few moments ago. I have been listening to D.T. Wright lectures after an interview by the Holy Post recently. He hits the nail on the head, and I so appreciate the perspectives expressed on this particular podcast with Skye Jethni. Thank you. Yes yes yes. Amen

Oh Amen amen amen. This so inspired me. I've been contemplating Jesus asking us to take His yoke upon us and learn of Him; that is where we find rest for our souls, by allowing Him to do the heavy lifting as we walk side by side with Him, allowing Him to lead the way and trust in His Goodness, Wisdom, Faithfulness, Gentleness. We then lay side our own agendas and manipulations, to simply walk with Him. That is what the writer of Hebrews meant when he said there remained a rest for the people of God, and to strive to enter that rest, done by laying aside our own self centered hopes, dreams, and desires. Thank you for writing this book Skye, and for sharing it's insights with us today on this podcast.
