Jan Lisiecki puts the spotlight on rarely recorded orchestral works by Chopin, the repertoire that became Lisiecki’s calling card and kick-started his international career.
These utterly compelling compositions crammed with exquisite melodies, youthful exuberance and dashing display were recorded in the studio with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, conducted by the Polish conductor Krzysztof Urbański. Watch Jan Lisiecki playing “Nocturne in C shrap minor”, taken from his new Album “CHOPIN: Works for Piano & Orchestra”.

True, almost all of us who play the piano can play that piece because it is not that difficult, but the difficult is not always the most beautiful, this piece is beautiful from beginning to end and depends a lot on the interpretation of each one. Chopin does not have anything easy, only to conceive of writing that so beautiful, I cannot imagine that mind so brilliant and so incredible that he lived to stay forever.@@AlejandroGonzalez-rw9kt

After listening to many fine pianists play this piece, for me, Jan Lisiecki's rendition is hands down my number one. His timing is so true to the piece , allowing its full expression. One does not just hear the impressive musical notes, but instead the inspiration of nature's truth in the phrasing from this true musical soul. Bravo and Thank you.

0:43 I like how he goes to the F# minor here, instead of the Eb diminished that most others play. I think it resolves better -he played this absolutely beautifully. I hope to one day be able to play this piece all the way through; I'm a pop pianist but I'd love to try my hand at this.

Ironically, this performance on KZfaq was followed by a video of the same Nocturne played by internationally-known pianist Yundi Li. What an an interesting comparison: one Nocturne played with the utmost sensitivity, and the other sounds like a student taking his 6th grade piano exam. Two pianists, same Nocturne, and totally different interpretations. This Nocturne was played as the encore after Jan's performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London at his Proms concert debut in July 2013. Over 5,000 people held their collective breath -- you could hear a pin drop! It was one of those magical moments that you never forget. The applause at the end was thunderous! I was in tears, it was so amazingly beautiful -- just like the performance we heard on this thread. If you are interested, the KZfaq link to his Nocturne encore is kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fN6Zlc6ny767eaM.html, and his outstanding Proms performance of the Schumann Concerto in A minor is kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rd2Vi7We252noac.html

Perfection, dear man … exactly as I would have tried to play it … simply, no drama as others noted. As a young man my false self did not allow such vulnerable beauty like tears gently falling. Only your soul's (I see it looking out at me) equanimity and COURAGE allows you to cause similar souls to resonate. My signature piece was Prelude No. 20, a clue to my path. My friend told me never to speak or think of evil or the past which is over and behind. Finally now I can enjoy the gentleness of my immortal soul, which is like yours, like that of Chopin and so many.🌹🦢🐦✴️✨
