It’s much MUCH easier to learn stick once you know how to drive. Learning how to drive stick and learning to drive is a complication most people don’t need.

YES! I always say that in driving, there are three main things to deal with: controlling the machine, managing traffic, and navigation. The more a learner can learn only one of these at once, the better. You don't want a learner ignoring traffic and navigation because they're still focusing on shifting gears or the basics of steering. For example, I learned to deal with traffic and navigation by riding my bicycle in traffic. Then I learned to drive an automatic well, and then added on manual only once I was a thoroughly competent driver.

Kinda funny as a european to watch this, since over here more people drive manual than automatic cars and in North America it's vice versa. Gotta confess though that even though I got my driver's licence in a manual in 1996, I've been driving automatics since 2005. It's just easier and allows you to focus more on the surrounding traffic.
