This to me is the most beautiful piece of music PF ever did. Parts 6 through 9 are often overlooked and they’re well worth the journey as well. I mean there are other compositions that are beautiful too especially on Dark Side, but this is just especially great. On an album made when people had longer attention spans and had better taste as far as artistic masterpieces like this go.

I recall a few years ago, my son (he was about 14?), was looking thru my CD collection and pulled out this CD and asked "is this any good?" I told him "I'll let you decide". He grabbed his headphones and I must have been smiling ear to ear cuz he looked at me and said "what?". I just told him to lay back n let the music flow. He had no idea. After a few minutes he comes back out of his room and asks "is all their music this good?...ummm yep.

Awesome. This Album is best listened to from start to finish, when you’re on your own. (Or together of course). Eyes closed, headphones on, nice and loud. As it’s meant to be. The same goes for, ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’. Enjoy. 🎶❤️🎶

When Pink Floyd was formed in the mid-60s, David Gilmour was not a member of the band. Pink Floyd was more a psychedelic band, with Syd Barrett their main composer, lead guitarist, and lead vocalist. Barrett dabbled in LSD, and while it may not have contributed, he suffered schizophrenia and was replaced by Gilmour in the band, which very much affected Roger Waters. The title of Wish You Were Here is a reference to Barrett. The concept of the album is the group's experience with the music industry, with Shine (on) You (crazy) Diamond being an outright tribute to Barrett, hence the SYD in the title.

Yes. It’s about how Syd was so creative when he was young then went crazy. The song talks about people laughing at him, his delusions, his raving, his fears, but he’s still a poet, a painter with words. But he still shines. While the band mixed the song Syd showed up and they didn’t recognize him at first as he’d gained weight and had a shaved head and eyebrows. They hadn’t seen him for years.

I like your complicity despite your differences. Nice reaction. You mention the mystical, spacey and even psychedelic aspect of this song, but to me, it's a heartfelt tribute to their childhood friend Syd Barrett. Here's why: 1st, the music recalls the musical style of Syd Barrett, a style (soaring or hovering) so to speak. 2nd, Their way of describing what their friend meant to them, a brilliant and inspiring musician (You shone like the sun). 3rd, Their respect towards their friend, in the description of his illness (schizophrenia), in the following lyrics: (Now there's a look in your eyes, - Like black holes in the sky). In contrast to the shining of the sun. (You were caught on the crossfire - Of childhood and stardom). As they say, "Success swells his head". (Come on you target for faraway laughter). Mental illness is unfortunately too often the target of mockery by some people.

Pink Floyd Shine On You Crazy Diamond released 9/75: The lyrics refer to Syd Barrett an original band member that had taken what was believed to be a very potent dose of acid and burned /destroyed his thinking. Syd went from a slim Curley hared, bubbly, charismatic person to a shell of a person that a few years later the band would not even recognize him when he dropped in on them during a rehearsal session Syd was overweight barely any hair and you couldn't talk to him and make any sense of it. The band kept Syd compensated until his death in 2006. Syd was with the band from 1965 to 1968 after his problem he worked as a solo artist from 1969 to 1971 but didn't do much until his passing in 2006. Pink Floyd the Wall the movie 1979: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6qAhbqCyZi4dWiH.htmlhis is a must to understand the music it will use all the music on a 2 cd set in the production of the movie and gives the viewer an understanding of the music. This is a story of the wall a band member has constructed around himself mentally as he was totally protected by his mother after he lost his father in the war and about the breaking down of the wall to save the band member (Roger Waters).

Then, pour another, woof that down too, then pour a third one and go turn off all the lights. Put this or any Pink Floyd record on. Syd Barrett actually walked into the studio during the recording of this. None of the other members had seen him in years and did not recognise him at first due to him having gained a lot of weight and being completely bald (as well as eyebrows). After a while they realised who he was and invited him in to listen to what they had recorded. He sat there with an emotionless blank look on his face through the album (that is about him) and when it ended he just took off the headphones and said "sounds a bit dated". He left shortly after and was never seen in by any of them again. He actually released a solo album after leaving Floyd and before totally losing his mind completely. It has a few good songs on it and Gilmour actually helped him with it and plays on it.

I always debate if I should do more reactions to live performances. I usually prefer studio versions, especially for a first listen, but I know from several comments that there are certain bands many prefer live versions. It is a bit challenging to know the best version to use when we shuffle into a song and do the reaction on the spot, but I try to stay aware of when people suggest a live version. I know when we did Comfortably Numb I got tons of comments suggested we should react to the live version from the Pulse DVD. Also, glad you like the Roger Dean artwork for The Quest, even though your thoughts on the album are pretty clear 😂

@@NathanOnShuffle I guess it boils down to personal taste, live vs studio. Know your audience and think which they would prefer.
