Oh is that what happened to this song. I literally just found this song. It was sort of my musical white whale cause I couldn't remember who sung it or any of the lyrics all I knew was it it had a very bass heavy intro and it sounded britney spears-ish (in retrospect it's the other way around) Found it tonight cause someone used it in a tiktok. She was already a pop star for 20 years and was approaching 40. She was kind of clinging to "pop star" relevance well past her expiration. A combination of bad album, bad moment in Conservative post-9/11 America and radio blacklisting pretty much sped up the end of her relevant days. Same thing is happening to Timberlake now at 40.

Had the SB fiasco not happened, this would've surely rose to the top 10 the very least! The beat is hot as ever and the choreography all over this video is straight bananas. Janet deserved more during the "Damita Jo" album. An incredible effort by her, might I add. Think of the buzz "Strawberry Bounce" would have gotten if it was released as the "All Nite" follow-up. Straight up maddening that so many gems by her circa '04 have been lost in time and relevancy. Pity.

It really does suck. Damita Jo is one of my favorite albums of hers. It's so good. It went on to affect her album 20 Y.O. I remember hearing an interview with Jimmy talking about how she just wasn't feeling it and didn't know what to talk about with that album. That's why it suffers so much. It's not a terrible album, but it wasn't very good. If she wasn't dragged through the mud the way she was, it could have been an amazing follow up to Damita Jo. I want to live in that universe where the SB never happened.
