At this point, I just wish they'd reboot Exo Force. Imagine what they could do with a line entirely dedicated to mechs. And imagine the creative designs that wouldn't be limited by a sci-fi/fantasy Samurai/Ninja theme.

I haven’t seen the Ninjago show since the first season, I want to say. Things are getting complicated! Villains coming back corrupted by crystals, cyberspace wars, it’s all so cool and interesting compared to just a skeleton army!

New season is so so as of now only half the season has released it’s a bit jumbled together and doesn’t make much sense plus a lot of filler

I gotta say, even though I've never watched Ninjago it has become one of my favorite themes from Lego. I go into all of these sets ignorant of what's happening in the show. As a Lego fan and a mech fan, this is easily one of the most impressive looking products they've put out yet. Top 3 for me as well, up there with the likes of Lloyd's Titan Mech!

Thanks for showing the posing possibilities. It really demonstrates how how well this set is designed in that regard. Adding the fantastic minifigure selection, this set really is a great sendoff for Nya as the current crop of ninjas bows out.

Something that no one realized about this mech is that both katanas can be combined with a single technic pin into a sick broadsword and it can be securely held by the mech

TLG has been hitting the mech nail on the head lately. Lloyds Titan Mech, Legacy Zane's Titan Mech, Monkey King Warrior Mech and Ninja Ultra Combo Mech are all excellent. This new addition just builds up on all the previous stuff. I just wish one day TLG will release a mech with bendable knees AND a good range of motion (eg in the ankles). Because as far as the mech design, including with bendable knees, has come, there's currently still some limitations in how you can pose the mech.

I'm glad the designers at Lego finally found a (fairly) compact knee joint design that provides enough friction for such a huge mech! It still doesn't have that second degree of freedom like the old Exo-Force ones, but at this point I'm not really expecting that. However, I wish they'd double up the ball joints in the ankle and made a linkage up the rear side of the lower leg. That would double to triple the friction (depending on axis of rotation) so they wouldn't have to limit the range of motion that much. I made a proof of concept and it works like a charm!

I had an Exo-Force mech when I was a child and it was falling apart everytime I tried to articulate it, as it's joints had so much friction but lose attachments. I'm truly amazed by the easy articulation and absolute strength of Zane's Titan Mech today.

I'm considering whether I should get this. It's one of the only sets with a proper crystal side build, that's nice. Minifigures are also good, only thing I'm not entirely sold on is the mech itself.

I’m proud of Lego for making a sturdy figure like this, I never got this when I was young. Kids are really gonna enjoy this set/new system. Also was there for the stream and had a great time seeing it be built. Despite all the food talk 🤣

I got the Ninjago Ultra Combo Mech because I thought that was going to be the best mech Lego would ever produce and then Lego revealed this beauty like a week later! How could you do this to me Lego??!! Because I like this mech a lot more than the Ultra Combo Mech! It has more articulation (KNEES!), is more streamlined, and is actually appearing in the show so it's canon! And subjectively I like the color-scheme and more humanoid built of Nya's mech much more than the Ultra Combo Mech! Not only that, the minifig section of Nya's mech is far and away the better than the Ultra Combo with 8 whole minifigs, like 6 of which are exclusive and critical characters to the Ninjago universe! The only things better about the Ultra Combo Mech is the prices (30 dollars for 100 more pieces is a much better deal!) but even then I just like Nya's mech so much more at a visual level! Had I known this mech would look as good as it does and that is has so much articulation with A+ figs, I would have seriously considered buying it instead of the Ultra Combo! I'd probably get both eventually but still, Nya's mech here is a day one purchase!

I was waiting for this! Hands down, you're the most comprehensive when it comes to showing us possible poses (and the limits of the model's articulation). Knees are great, but there's still work to be done on overall pose-ability. Thanks for another thorough review.

As someone who isn't a huge fan of Ninjago, BUT a huge fan of mechs (I grew up watching Gundam, Bubblegum Crisis, GITS, etc. with my dad), seeing you play around with and pose this set made my inner child so happy. It makes me want to pick up some of these and give Ninjago a chance.

Ninjago has just been extremely consistent with putting out great mechs in the last few years. The only catch is that they've been getting bigger and more expensive, I love them but I wish I didn't have to shell out $90+ for one of them. That being said I really love this one, seeing the images at first had me lukewarm but now that I see it in more detail it's definitely high on my wishlist now. Not to mention this set has the highest number of exclusive minifigs in a set this season, and they're all pretty fantastic, this is gonna be a must-buy for me.

Because you where wondering, the name of the crystal dragons in universe is "Dragonite" they're the dragon species that the Crystal King's council rides, also the name is a reference of how a lot of minerals end with "ite" like Pyrite, Alexandrite, Peridotite, etc.

I don't collect a lot of the Ninjago, mostly the Legacy sets and the whole "Master of the Mountain" subtheme that was fantastic, i feel like this new wave of set will complement my existing collection really well, this set, Crystal King and Crystal King Temple are on my purchase list. Amazing minifigures, great set designs... ...i'm all in for this type of playset as they have good display value for me aswell. Thank you again for the great review!

Its big with good articulation, great figures, and a really good side build. I'll definitely grab this set whenever I can. I love the mechs from the Ninjago team and this one is no exceptions. If this season is the end of Ninjago then I would love the next theme to be a mech based one similar to exo-force. LEGO loves their mechs and I think the Ninjago team would feel right at home.

The comparison with the Ultra Combo Mech is a good idea and probably shows my main gripe with the set. The UCM is much cheaper and has way more features, holds more minifigures and still appears somewhat larger. This one is a much more detailed build but I still can't help but feel like it's not worth the money in comparison. Maybe I'm just not a classic mech person, I don't know.

okay, that mech is absolutely sexy. I wonder if you could modify the ankles with a friction joint (and insetting the cup a bit) to be able to do away with the movement inhibitors. Also even IF it's not 100% stable, the fact it can hold its own weight on ONE leg is a test to the crazy good engineering on this thing while still adhering to lego's standards. the crystal wyvern thing is kinda cute. Like, I know it's supposed to be a scary monster but I want to just give it headpats. The figures are also all really great. My favorites are Nya and the baddies I am 100% gonna try to pick this thing up. I fell in love with it when it was first revealed, but now seeing it reviewed makes me want it even more.

Don't really have much to do with Ninjago but gotta say, the team theme is really good at these jager styled mechs. Really blurs the line between a kids toy, and display model. Price is a bit steep, but a good/solid build for what it costs.

I like the overall design of this, but I am having some serious trouble with the choice of attachments for the head. It just looks so odd. I wonder if it's possible to swap out the all of the azure for sand green, and dark red.

Wow, what a great-looking set! The last, (and only), mech I have is the fire mech from the Ninjago Movie. In fact, I've been so absorbed by Lego Harry Potter lately that I've not bought a new Ninjago set in years, instead opting for new HP sets when I get the builders' itch. I might have to pick this up, though, and place it next to the fire mech! 😄

I really like that they covered up the cockpit. It's a small thing but i really disliked it when you could see the pilot in previous mechs. I modified my Zane mech to have a covered cockpit.

I love this samurai x mech and I love the purple ninja dude because he looks so cool I am going to use his outfit for my autumn outfit version of me and for the head I am going to give it to the love potion alliance version of me... and for the ninja blades I am going to give it to the my past self in 2011 and the timeline is julius maximus in rise of the blue ninja...

They over done it with the Azure blue needs some thing to break it up Not much. But like a line of red between some of the blue and I’m not sure what they’re thinking but why have these mech have bulky shoulder pads I think I would have like it if they used the same windshield they used for kneecap for the shoulders

The One from The Ending Scene Where Emmett was Talking to Lord Business about Building Things to Everyone's Imagination? Honestly, compared to Lloyd's s11 mech and Zane's new Titan Mech, I'm really disappointed with how this mech looks, the head is really ugly, and the huge blocky sections on top of the shoulders are also very weak too. I think I'd have preferred this to have been a Pixal mech, and maybe with a reworked colour-scheme and design in places imo

I agree that the head and shoulders are not the greatest but the mini figs, side build, articulation, limbs and colours are better than the s11 mech and Zane’s mech (you could make an argument for the Zane mech colours but the s11 mech’s green is not for me)

I find it interesting if nothing else, it makes it look striking at least. I do agree though, it feels a bit off, less samurai mech and more big samurai. It's a bit too clean for a large machine in my eyes.

Maybe not a fair criticism, but I think its way too large, as with most of the wave, which doesn't help with the jacked up prices. Not that they don't look good, I would just rather have it cheaper or have more other smaller things in the set.

No, it's higher. If this set was released last year it would have likely been sold for 80-100 dollars. Even the Ultra Combo Mech which was released earlier this year is only 90 dollars for even more pieces.

The knockoff Power Ranger mech from January (I don't remember the name) has 400 more pieces and $200 cheaper. Is this nice? Sure, it's $80 nice, not $120 nice.

Your point is correct but your numbers are way off. The Ultra Combo Mech (the other mech) is 1100 pieces for 90 dollars. This mech is 1000 pieces for 120 dollars. It's 30 extra bucks for 100 less pieces.

might just be me comparing the mech to gunplas or figuarts, but the articulation is kinda dissapointing due to poor joint placement, at least build's still solid couldn't care less about those minifigures side build looks kinda cool, but the hind legs are just straight up bad build wise

This thing's honestly OVERACHIEVING in the articulation department, it not only has knees, but also has elbow rotation *and* proper hands. (Which are on ball-joints to boot)
