I was lucky enough to stand at the foot of the stage while she tore her heart out and handed it to the audience, with each and every song. She took us through intense pain, heart ache and loss and we were broken right along with her. There was no way to thank her enough for huge gift she gave us. Some things make it worth being 70. This is one of them.

Yes you were fortunate to be there. We are contemporaries. I feel so fortunate to have been exposed to and immersed in this music as it flowed into the culture. It marks one to have had this at a formative age when our culture was in a formative stage.

I was lucky enough to see Janis twice in.1969, once very close to the stage. She played the first Atlanta Pop Festival, next to last act. Everyone worn out, tired after a weekend of music. After first bar of first song everyone up on their feet with Janis! No-one like her, I've been in love with her ever since.

I love how she walks out like she’s nervous, destroys the place, makes history, changes the way women sing rock ‘n’ roll for all time, and darts happily offstage.

Her skipping offstage is a gift. To see her satisfied and happy is a wonderful vision for such a sad woman. I hope everyone watches Little Girl Blue, a PBS special about her life. The original source of her pain is so surprising.

Yeah, that was at UT. She said on Dick Cavett's show that she was laughed out of class, out of town (Port Arthur, TX), and out of state (Texas). I love Janis, though. The guy who knew her well at the time that happened and played with her in the band while in Austin started crying when he told that story because it hurt him so bad that her it her so badly. It had a deep cut in her. Poor girl, being treated that way. I enjoyed hearing stories from her siblings and friends (she was a little wild lolol).

Amplified blues. Love Janis and the absolutely amazing Big MAMA Thornton . Big MAMA is very underrated . And another amazing blues artist Victoria Spivey real stories of pain . Spider Webs is a sad song about drug abuse in the 1920s yes the 20's.

Ronald Blackburn, when Janis found out that the late Great Bessie Smith was buried in an unmarked grave here near Philadelphia, Pa. She helped to purchase one for Bessie Smith another empress of the blues. ✌

“ I heard a human voice who sang like no one else, I heard a proud Lady singing loud. Lived her life like she liked, didn’t give a damn. But soon she found she was underground and wasted. I watched her hitting notes as she strutted stage, her body shook... oh she did her stuff. She’d scream and quake, give and take...maybe just too much... if you take the smooth you gotta take the rough... Heroes End - Judas Priest

New subscriber to your channel! I love Janis Joplin! I'm from the 50's,so I would listen to her, and Jimi Hendrix the doors, and all that good music. The blues, jazz, soul! That's where it's at! I used to be, or still am, an old hippie! And there's music from Janis Joplin uncut's that nobody's heard you can find it on KZfaq. It's great, and I love Stevie Ray Vaughan great blue's....besides BB King, and James Brown which I love, and Marvin Gaye my goodness I can go on and on. You know your music well for being so young! 👍🏽❤⚘

I didn’t like Janis too much back then tho I did love the blues and rock. This particular song made me so sad for her. She sings with so much emotion, I couldn’t stand to watch her. So sad. Even at my young age I thought she wouldn’t last long. Like something was gonna happen to her.and it did. God bless her. RIP. Thanks India. Merry merry Christmas.Be blest☦️👩🏻‍🦳🐾

Please please react to Little Girl Blue by Janis...from what I have read she was a lonely and tormented soul...the night she died she was feeling the same way...this song kills me to know how sad she was that night...thanks..and beautiful reaction💖

The night she died she WAS feeling alone. What she didn't know was there was a letter waiting for her from the most recent guy she'd been seeing that he was coming to see her. This guy had made her very happy and she had been clean & sober with him. So she didn't pick up the letter from the desk clerk at her hotel and didn't know. Instead she felt very lonely and picked up again to a tragic result we all know.

When my oldest son was a toddler, he absolutely loved Me and Bobby Magee. He'd always say, Mommy, I really like this and he'd have a big ol smile on his face. Poor Janice shot up that last hit of smack, because she was so wanting and thinking that her guy and herself were going to get married. That's why she tried getting clean, to be able to have a family. They had a go-round on the phone, so she called up her old dealer. Unfortunately, she got a batch of at least 50% pure herion. It did her in and several other people in the surrounding area who obviously got their smack from the same dealer.

Janis was one of two other singers who got together & bought a tombstone for blues singer Bessie Smith who since her death in the 30s never had one. Bessie's fans sent money but her former husband who got the money squandered it. Janis Joplin was like no other. Like Otis Redding with "Sitting At the Dock of the Bay," when Janis' version of Kris Kristofferson's "Me & Bobby McGee," came out -- it became the second hit record for an artist who had already passed away. Despite this reception early in her career Janis as popular as she became always felt lonely -- and she did die alone. Just like so many other major artists. Your sadness was sincere in this video India -- good assessment as always.
